View Full Version : O's/Twins

TheDoyler23

Daniel Cabrera (1-2, 5.79) Vs. Carlos Silva (2-0, 3.41)
Erik Bedard (3-1, 2.50) Vs. Brad Radke (3-3, 3.60)
Sidney Ponson (4-1, 5.50) Vs. Johan Santana (5-1, 2.88)

A good team wins this series and gets some momentum going into the road trip, especially since the first opponent on that trip is the scorching hot White Sox.

havent miss 1 game yet.
after many years..im actually smiling now.
All I ever wanted was a competitive team.
Good for the Os to finally get some sort of respect.
Brian R. biggest sleeper of the season so far.

You would definitely have to give the Twins the pitching edge. I just hope our bats come to life again for this series and we can outslug them. 2 of 3 would be great going into Chicago...and I hope Chicago keeps winning so their due for a couple losses by the time we get there.

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2005, 10:59 AM
yea, 2/3 against Minn and 2/2 against Chi would be great. Hell, I wouldn't even complain if we went 3-4 in this stretch. The BoSox are playing well though. They need to cool off already!

TD_washingtonredskins
May-9th-2005, 11:27 AM
Yeah, they seem to be just as hot as we are. We've won 11 out of 14 or something and I think they gained half a game during that stretch!

Miggy is such a stud. Also, Danny is pitching a great game. He has so far overpowered the Twins lineup. All these 3 up 3 down innings for Minnesota are sweet. Just hope he continues to pitch a great game.

I love how he jumps over the baseline after every inning.

Damn I love this team! The biggest thing is that amazing ability to bounce back after tough losses - and completely dominate. Yesterday was tough to swallow, but today was a little gem to come home to after class.

I really enjoy the way they take care of business more often than not in the opening games of series.

That's important because it gives you the luxury of needing just 1 out of 2 after that to win the series.

This was important since they face Radke and Johan next. If they can split these next two, they'll be in good shape going into Chicago.

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2005, 10:27 PM
The Twins are a good offense that doesn't strike out much. Cabrera just pounded the zone all day. How do you throw an 88 MPH curveball? That's just sick. Guys were reading heater all day and went right over that yacker. Remember when Cabrera was a one pitch starter last year? Not this year. I don't think he even USED a change today.

Cabrera's in the 3rd game of the 4 game series.

Remember when he was almost traded with Val Majewski for Derrick Lee? That deal fell through becuase Lee wanted a huge $ extention for a guy who wasn't a totally proven player.

It's nice to see what Cabrera has done since he mechanic work with Ray. In two starts he's dropped his ERA from a 7.65 to a 4.50 by only giving up 1 run in 16 innings in those 2 starts with 19 K's overall. Even more impressive, he only walked 2 guys this time around.

If Cabrera and Bedard continue to progress the way they have this season, you could see our future 1-2 punch. Man this is exciting.

I was just reading the recap from the Sun, and they said that one of Cabrera's fastball was clocked at 100 on the stadium gun. I knew he could throw some heat, but the extra muscle he has put on is making him even stronger.

Agreed. I think we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg with Bedard and Cabrera. And if Maine, Penn and Loewen develop like the FO hopes they will we should be sitting pretty for years to come.

I just hope the Beattie and Flanagan don't try to package Bedard or Cabrera in any deadline deals. You know that any team we talk to is going to ask for one of them in return.

That would be a huge mistake. I think we have a good stable of young pitchers and we should try to keep as many as we can.

The only deal I can see us making at the deadline would be for a starter, so to trade one of those guys would probably not net us much of a gain...

With revenue sharing allowing the small market teams to keep their budding stars (i.e. Santana, Sheets, Sabathia, etc.) there just aren't many quality starters that will be available come July. I think the best the O's can hope for in terms of acquiring a starter is for a team that has fallen out of the race to unload a vet.

Don't be surprised if the O's upgrade their offense at the deadline. Raffy just isn't getting it done and simply can't keep this futility up and remain fifth in the order. Gibby's bat is starting to heat up but I think Maz is still uncomfortable with him defensively at 1B. And with Sosa dinged up he has to be in RF.

Maybe the Rockies will get serious about trading Helton, and I think Beattie and Flanagan would be fools not to inquire about the availability of Mike Sweeney.

If the O's trade a young pitcher, it's gonna be Maine before anyone else.

I agree. He's talented and is more major league ready than Penn or Loewen. Teams will want a pitcher that is at most a year away from stepping into a rotation. I don't think you can honestly say that about Penn at this point, and you certainly can't about Loewen.

Wow....I don't think I've ever seen an ending to a game like that in any sport. Matos out, the balk, Cuddyer's (I think it was him) strikeout non-call...hell, even Surhoff's at bat and those called strikes....:puke:

All that just sapped any energy out of this team, Kline's homers didn't matter at that point.

TheDoyler23
May-11th-2005, 12:16 AM
UGH..You can't make errors like that and win. And what was with that strikeout? The Twins guy ran towards first and the ump said he hit it? The hell? If I knew that I got a slice of the ball then I'm sure as hech not bolting down the line. UGH... Just a crappy game overall, besides Bedard's wasted good outing.

Matos, attempting to bunt, was hit on the hand. Although he was attempting to get away from the inside pitch, the UMP blew the call anyway and called it a foul ball. Broken finger for Matos. With Newhan already on base as a pinch runner for Raffy, Gil made a horrible bunt where they got the lead runner. The inning fizzled from there. It should have been bases loaded and no outs. 2 Games with horrible blown calls in 3 days. grrrrrrr.

6 weeks. And is especially stinks cause Val Majewski is out for the year with a torn Labrum. He probably would have been a very decent replacement. @ Least the birds can but Newhan out there in center and have some flexability with Gibbons. Gibby was a pretty good RF last year despite not having great speed.

The Mets are still shopping Mike Cameron, though I wouldn't want to give up a whole lot for him. D-wise, he's better than any other O's outfielder.

It's also time for Larry Bigbie to step up and be the playwer he was in 2003. The Organization is getting really annoyed with his lack of production.
