They swept us in 2, we swept them in two. This series has 4 games due to a rain out in Boston.
Lopez Vs. Arroyo
Cabrera Vs. Miller
Ponson Vs. Wakefield
Penn Vs. Clement
After this series against Det...I just don't know anymore. Lopez and Arroyo could be a pitchers duel. Cab and Miller could be a slugfest and same for Ponson and Wakefield. Clement is unbeaten this year pitching against a guy making his second start. Hopefully we'll get the reverse-lock going.
I'ms sure the team had an interesting flight north today after blowing it against the Tigers. They seemed to always be one hit away in every game. Perhaps things will click in Boston? I hope.
HOW MANY TIMES DID WE HAVE RISP, Less than 2 outs, and not score?
2-2 split would be nice. Every starter needs ot get it going, and hopefully the bats will get it done.

I like our chances. I'm not convinced that the Redsox are that much better than the O's. When I watch them or the Yanks, I don't fear them like I used to. I believe the O's can hang in there with either of them.
This series could be a big statement, one way or the other.

I'm pretty sure that Miguel Tejada didn't cry into his oatmeal this morning. I think he'll be ready to play and fire up this team in Boston.

Certainly. Though he's a first ball fastball hitter, he was looking for Arroyo's best pitch, the curveball. He didn't get it in enough.

With this lineup we can't stay in a slump for very long. This team could have rolled over after getting swept by Detroit, but they shrugged it off and cooled a very hot team. The surprises just keep on coming.
Its no longer a fluke, this team simply hits better on the road. Let's hope we continue that trend during this crucial road trip.

That was a big win to start the series. When you lose 3 in a row to the Tigers, you need to come back with a solid effort and we had this game throughout.
I think we really need to take 3 out of 4 in this series (even though that is asking a lot on the road).

Anyone else starting to hate mazzili ? All this winning is masking his stupidity, he is not a good manager. He has no clue as to how to handle a Bullpen and does not know when to tell players to steal or not steal and the fact that he does not argue is really gettin to me. Frank Robinson argues like every call and gets an overturn here and there, and Mazz just sits his fat a** on the bench and leisurely takes his time to get to the field, and says a word and takes a seat like a B*tch.
Send him back to the Yanks and promote Ray Miller to Manager.

Oh and if he could take Treblehorn back with him, thatd be great.
TheDoyler23
May-31st-2005, 06:38 PM
I think Mazz has done pretty good. His pen management has not been great, but that's something that will improve with more and more experience.
Yes, he doesn't argue a bad call for very long. He's like Torre, his mentor. There are times where he's agrued a little longer than comfortable and he could have been tossed but wasn't. One such occasions was on a called strike 3 to BJ. Mazz argued for a good minute, then came back to him to get the last word.
Ray Miller is a great pitching coach, but look at his record as a manager. He doesn't cut it.
And I don't have anything against Trebs. He was right 2/3 times last night (though Tejada was called out the first time). The best 3rd base coaches are the ones who aren't afraid to be aggressive.

I know that I'm subjective, but things just didn't go out way tonight. Well, thats the game.
Aside from Cabrera falling apart there, we were in this game.
I hate to say it, but we looked so flat out there tonight. And against Detroit this weekend, too. We started off the season with a bang, and like I said, hate to say it but I see flatness seeping in. The vibe isn't there anymore. I don't know if the players feel that, but thats what I see when I watch these games. The Yankees and Sox are hungry and they're doing something about it, they're surging. We're sitting atop the East fat and happy when we can't afford to be. And we can't let this feeling seep in especially when members from another team are calling us out, saying we're soft and not legit.
Sosa needs to get his **** together, he would be a huge shot in the arm for us, no pun intended. I don't want to hear crap about injuries. Yeah, Lopez is a loss, but that's just one bat, it's not like our lineup doesn't have many. Yeah, Bedard is a loss for these next few weeks, but come on, he doesn't play every day, there's only so much he can do. This is where we have to dig down and people need to buck up and pull more than their fair share of the load. Only Tejada, Roberts and recently Raffy have been doing that.
I dunno, sorry, i'm ranting, but i'm distraught after this loss. I don't feel good and there's no reason why the rest of us shouldn't feel good after that one, either.

Yea, we need somone to pick this team up. Tejada can't do it everyday. They hit some balls hard though and the wind blew straight in. On a normal night, Gibbons would have had 2 dingers. Somebody is gonna win it for us tomorrow. I really believe that if this team is gonna go to the playoffs, a big win to hang their hats on needs to come soon, and kick off the month of May.
It's a long season, and the O's have been treading water recently. Hopefully something good will happen.

gotta give credit where credit is due. Miller didn't have great stuff, but he pitched well enough to get the win. He scattered those five hits and never really allowed us to get a rally going.
I agree that Sosa needs to starting hitting the ball pronto. He's swinging at bad pitches, getting fooled far too often, and generally appears lost at the plate. Players switching leagues always have an adjustment period which most "experts" claim lasts around 150 ABs. Sosa is closing in on that mark, so hopefully he'll finally settle in and start mashing.

The only thing that I can say to this is that it's a 162-game schedule. It would be impossible to come the ballpark with the same intensity for the 5 months these guys play. I think we have enough winners on this team to get them firing on all cylinders again when need be. Look how we responded to the 3-game sweep vs. Detroit!

1-2-3 in the third for the Sox. Sid's 2-seam is really good today, and He's such a better pitcher with nobody on base. It allows for the hitch in his windup.

How about Julio! man. Gomez buckner's the DP ball that would have ended the inning and he MANS UP and gets Johnny (Batting 350) Damon and the craft Rentiria out.

Even better, we gain a game on everyteam in the division(Blue Jays are in 3rd).
It's great to see the bats come out especially when it's clutch 2 out hits like Gil had. Gil was 5-10 againest Wakefield before tonight, thus the reason why he got the start.

The fact is, there's no telling what today will be like with Penn on the hill. Maybe he'll benefit from the Sox not having a scouting report on him. Or maybe he'll look like a young pitcher and the game will be over by the 3rd.
At least we went into Boston on the heels of a 3 game losing streak and clinched a split by game 3!!

Yeah, I watched the entire game. The sox scored three runs, so what. You still haven't mentioned what your beef is.
Do you think he left Ponson in too long? You could say Maz should have pulled Ponson after he walked Mueller and Bellhorn singled to load the bases, but at the point the guy was still pitching a shut out. He HAS to let him try to work his way out of trouble, Ponson deserved as much. Not to mention the O's had a seven run lead at that point.
Even after Ponson let in the first run (unearned at that) on Damon's sac fly, Ponson promptly retired Renteria and quickly got ahead of Ortiz before walking him on a full count. Manny then knocked in the next two runs on a single to center and Maz correctly pulled Ponson. But last I checked Manny is a pretty solid hitter and isn't exactly an easy out. I don't have a problem with that decision.
Do you think he brought in the wrong guy? Nixon was due next and has trouble hitting lefties, outside of BJ Ryan the seldom used John Parrish is the only other lefty reliever on the roster, thus it is a no-brainer to bring in Kline. Payton pinch hit only after Kline was brought in. Kline walked Payton to load the bases, and once again Maz did the right thing and yanked Kline for Williams. Williams came in and got the last out.
So lets recap. The world champion Redsox, who have a very formidable lineup, had the bases loaded not once (with no outs), not twice, but three times in the inning, and they managed only 3 runs. I'll take that any day of the week.
Good hitting teams score runs, the mark of a good bullpen is the ability to prevent the "big" inning and that is exactly what the O's did last night.

I didn't disagree with any of his noves besides MAYBE leaving hm in against Ortiz, who SUCKS against lefty pitching. But with Sid getting 2 outs, you don't take him out unless he actually warrants being yanked, especially with a what, 7 run lead?
What proves me right is tht manny got sawed off with his single. Ponson rode a 2-seam right under his fists and Manny got lucky.
The strike zone VANASHED when Kline came in andsince Millar destroyes lefty pitchers, Williams was the right move.
He put Julio in for the 8th since he wanted to be able to bring in Williams today if needed.
Baldwin closed it out and is probably available today as well.

Penn threw a great curve to get rentaria to bounce out. He set up that same pitch on the outer half earlier in the count, then came inside with it and he hit a bouncer to Melmo. This kid has something. Perhaps not an impact player this year, but a STRONG canidate to make the rotation next year.
