Words and music by freddie mercury

Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see-
I’m just a poor boy,i need no sympathy-
Because I’m easy come,easy go,
A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me,
To me

Mama,just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,
Pulled my trigger,now he’s dead,
Mama,life had just begun,
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away-
Mama ooo,
Didn’t mean to make you cry-
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow-
Carry on,carry on,as if nothing really matters-

Too late,my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Body’s aching all the time,
Goodbye everybody-I’ve got to go-
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth-
Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)
I don’t want to die,
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all-

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Galileo,galileo,
Galileo galileo
Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family-
Spare him his life from this monstrosity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go-
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me-

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-can’t do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,

Any way the wind blows....

I think if taken literally it may be about a young man's trial or maybe suicide, but I don't think there is much to that. Does anyone have any ideas what these lyrics could mean figuratively?

I always took it for the allegory interpretation of Mercury's struggles seeking acceptance as a homosexual, but who knows.

I remember we spent some time going :wtf: when the song first came out. Never did figure it out. From what I understand Freddie made a point to not discuss what the lyrics were about. Could be he left it out there for people to draw their own meaning from the song. Frankly, I've never quite figured out what the song could mean. If it does in fact mean something. :)

I wonder what Wayne and Garth think it means (Wayne's World)............

Or maybe you're both right.

Maybe it's about a gay man who went to court for shooting another man for bashing him because he was gay. :whoknows:

Amen. I only wish I could have had the chance to see Queen play with Freddie. What a talent.

I remember the same thing, but it was just as I was starting to really listen to music.

As for my own interpertation, I always thought is was about the simple crime and punishment approach. . . until I found out Freddie had AIDS. Then I started to re-examine the lyrics and I came to the homosexuality conclusion. I remember sitting around a campfire one night in a "circle" drunk and stoned debating the topic for what seemed like 10 hours (it was probably only 10 minutes though  )

On a side note, what the hell was I ever thinking growing up to not realize Freddie was gay??? I mean the leather pants, no shirt, the biker outfits with the leather hat . . . Hell, the band's name is Queen for Christ sakes.

Man I was really naieve back then. I mean here I was listening to Queen and Judas Priest, and it never even dawned on me that Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford were gay . . . Come on now, any time you see a lead singer wearing tight leather chaps, that should be a little bit of a giveaway for ya'

I was fortunate enough to see them twice, at what used to be the Capital Center.
The first was the "Night at the Opera" tour. What a spectacle it was! When we first went got our seats, we noticed a large "beam" above and in front of the stage. It looked to be about 4 or 5 feet wide and deep, and about 20 or 30 feet long (It spanned the entire stage). We wondered what it was for.

About halfway through the concert, it was lowered down to stage level, Freddie and Brian May climbed on, and it was raised about 1/2 the way back up. I think they sang two or three songs up there like that, one of them being " '39" from the "Night at the Opera" album.
I wish I could remember it better.

But back to the subject; I always thought that the song was about a man on death row and all the mixed feelings he had:

Sometimes, he does not want to die.
Sometimes, he does not care, "any way the wind blows".
He's sorry for what he did, would you please let him go?
He's telling his mother, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry."

If you play "Another one bites the dust" backwards, you can plainly hear Freddie saying, "It's fun to smoke marijuana".

Well i just like the song cause that one part reminds me of Waynes World and it cracks me up, but reading the lyrics it kinda makes me think of an attempted suicide or atleast him thinking about it. Perhaps he is thinking of it because of homosexuality issues, or perhaps he is talking about ODing. Dunno

No doubt im way off
