My brother works for coca cola.. (I always say he's a coke dealer) and he let me try one of Coke's new products that should hit stores shortly.

It's Coke Zero. I have been drinking diet drinks for over 10 years. I don't like the syrupy taste of drinks with sugar. The new Diet Coke with Splenda is pretty good too, however, the new Coke Zero is a must try if you don't like diet drinks. It tases just like regular coke minus the syrupy aftertaste.

Evidently, coke is thinking that within 10 years, regular soda will be alot less popular than diet soda.

Is it any different from Diet Coke? I thought with Sprite they renamed Diet Sprite to Sprite Zero, but it's the same thing.

Soft drinks in general are a dying breed, but especially regular soft drinks. Uncarbonated drinks, including bottled water, are seeing all the growth.

That new Diet Coke w/ Slpenda is great. I normally hate red fiet coke, but it's very drinkable. I'll certainly try the Coke 0.

(did enybody try that spice pepsi last Christmas? Gross)

That makes me want to cry. When I was a kid people would actually fill a bottle with water, not pay someone else a dollar a pop to do the same thing.

Where is this diet Coke w/ Splenda? I haven't seen it yet. Is it in all the stores? I kept asking why they were still using that crap w/ aspartame in it.

Believe it or not, a Splenda shortage:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/02/14/health/main674116.shtml

(AP) Dieters hoping for a slew of new products with the sugar substitute Splenda may be disappointed next year.

That's because the maker of sucralose, the key ingredient behind the increasingly ubiquitous no-calorie sweetener, is having trouble keeping up with demand.

The world's only manufacturer of sucralose, Tate & Lyle PLC, said interest has so outpaced expectations the company won't take on new U.S. customers until it has doubled production at its plant in McIntosh, Ala., sometime in early 2006.

The company also plans to open a second plant in Singapore, according to a written statement.

Beautiful. You and I share the exact same opinion.

The one thing I've found though.... is aspartame gives me very bad heartburn.

So I'm excited to see them use Splenda.

That means low cal... I can drink again.

Diet coke with Splenda is very good. Regular diet coke gives me heart burn too, I avoid it.
Coke zero has aspartame, but I just drank another bottle and no hartburn.
I think it's the diet coke formula, not so much the aspartame, but who knows.

So what's the difference between the new Coke Zero and Coke C2? It it an improved C2 since that was something like 1/2 the calories of a regular coke?

codeorama
June-8th-2005, 12:12 PM
Coke Zero has zero calories, zero carbs etc..
I think cokes plan was to offer C2 as a medium point for people looking to switch to diet drinks and then have several diet options rather than just one.

C2 was a gimmick aimed to latch on the whole "Atkins diet" craze...for all those who wanted to avoid carbs all together......
yet not drink Diet Coke. Wasn't too impressed by C2 (tasted like a watered down version of Coke....not alot of flavor). Hope Coke Zero is better, but I got to thnik it'll have a Diet Coke aftertaste b/c of the aspartane

BTW: I'm not a big fan of Atkins, I think the long term consequences of this diet are somewhat dangerous.......

I'll admit it, I liked Crystal Pepsi. Not enough that I miss it, but I did like it.

I'm not a big coke guy, myself. I choose Pepsi every day of the week. My problem is, I drink a boatload of Pepsi every day of the week, and it's one of the worst things for you. I hate the taste of diet soda, but this sounds intriguing enough that I might give this a shot.....

I really like the new sodas coming out with Splenda.

Splenda is easily the best sugar sub out there, and because it's made from sugar it doesn't have the usual odd aftertaste.

I'm anxious to try Zero - I hate diet drinks, but would drink them if they tasted better.

Anyone here remember RC draft, made with pure sugar and real cola nuts? It was the best soda ever made. It was available around '95, but was too expensive and didn't catch on. Man, that stuff was good.

Splenda is nice, but it still isn't sugar and it hasn't been around long enough for testing. The fact only one company makes it is a little wierd, for such a hot product.

http://truthaboutsplenda.com/factvsfiction/index.html

Fiction: Splenda is natural sugar without calories.

Fact: Johnson & Johnson claims that "Splenda is made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar". Johnson & Johnson wants consumers to think that it is natural sugar without calories. The truth is that Splenda is not natural and does not taste like sugar. The sweetness of Splenda derives from a chlorocarbon chemical that contains three atoms of chlorine in every one of its molecules. The manufacturer of this chlorinated compound named it sucralose. The improper use of “ose” in the name creates the illusion that sucralose is natural like sucrose which is the precise name for table sugar. Johnson & Johnson wants consumers to believe that the taste of Splenda is due solely to natural sugar, that is, due to sucrose. However, the manufacturer has patented several chemical processes for making the chlorinated chemical compound it calls sucralose. The patent literature illustrates that sucralose can be chemically manufactured from starting materials that do not require natural sugar. In one patent, for example, the manufacturer constructs sucralose from raffinose by substituting atoms of chlorine for hydroxyl groups in raffinose. Raffinose is a molecule found naturally in beans, and onions and other plants, but unlike natural sucrose, it has very little taste. In another patented process three atoms of chlorine are substituted for three hydroxyl groups in sucrose. The end product of both of these manufacturing processes is an entirely new chlorocarbon chemical called sucralose. Each molecule of sucralose contains three atoms of chlorine which makes it 600 times sweeter than a natural molecule of sugar which contains no chlorine. Splenda has it’s own artificial taste which is due to this chlorinated compound.

Diet Coke with Splenda isn't as good as I'd expected it to be. With that said however I must admit it's pretty good. I just can't wait for my personal favorite to be made with Splenda....Diet Cherry Coke. The artificial cherry flavor covers up the nutrasweet aftertaste pretty well so I imagine it will be like milk of the Gods made with Splenda.

Strangely enough Coke with Lime gives me heartburn from he11. Go figure.

Hey Code, if you could please ask him to pass along that it really sux that nobody ever sells Diet Cherry Coke in six or twelve packs of 20 Oz. bottles and that having a Splenda option for it would really kick all kinds of bootay.

I just got a 2 liter of Coke Zero and its pretty good. However, since I've been drinking Diet Coke for so long, I don't really remember what regular Coke is supposed to taste like, so I can't really compare.

Frankly, to me, Diet Coke, Diet Coke with Splenda, and Coke Zero are all fine if they taste remotely good, have no calories, and contain caffeine.

I had a beverage emergency while playing poker tonight (The first emergency being there wasn't any beer)

Anyway, i ran to shop rite to grab a pepsi, and what was on sale for sixty cents? Coke Zero, of course.

I figured I'd give it a shot.

I am not a fan of coca-cola. If I'm at an establishment that serves coke, I order sprite. When i need a cola, it's always pepsi.

That being said, i drink WAY too much of it, so a 0 calorie cola is something I should look into.

To make a long story short, I'm drinking it right now, and I must say, it's not bad. It tastes good going down, the only reason I know it's not regular is because of the aftertaste.

BUT, it's not as bad as diet soda, and it's leaps & bounds better than pepsi one.

I still don't know if I can drink it all the time. But when Coke Zero II comes out, they might have me........

This has been a big drink testing week for me. Completely as a result of this thread this past weekend I tried Coke Zero (plus it was on sale like someone else mentioned) and I thought it was pretty good. I'm not sure what it tastes like, I don't know that it's regular Coke, but it was good all the same. I had Coke with Splenda yesterday and I think I could be a fan of that as well. It just has a little more flavor than regular diet Coke.

I also tried the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper (which I've been meaning to do for however long it's been since it was introduced) and must say that I was disappointed. I love Dr. Pepper and the diet version and I thought the cherry vanilla just tasted kind of bland, like there wasn't enough of any one flavor to really give the drink a kick.
