I 100% agree, he has the potential to change the game on every play he is on the field. I would love to see what he could do on Offense. Maybe TE or Wideout?

Arguably being the key word there. I don't see him as quite as good as Ahman Green, Ladanian Tomlinson, Jamal Lewis, Tiki Barber or Ricky Williams if he is in the league. He is above average though.
Oh yeah the answer to the poll question is Sean Taylor. His mix of size, speed and intuition is rare, if not unprecedented.

Easy pick. CP had over 1300 yards on the ground with a banged up O line, and 8 men in the box on every play due to the utter lack of a passing game. Add to that his recieving ability and you have your answer. This year with Jansen back, Rabach at C, and HOPEFULLY a downfield passing game, Portis will be unstoppable.
Hopefully we get to see the belt 5 or 6 times this year.

I'm gonna go with Portis.
But the only Skins Pro Bowler last year was Marcus Washington, so it can be argued that he is the Best Redskin.

Mr. Redskin LAVAR ARRINGTON....followed by ST and the CP

I went with Springs, The man had a great year for us and if we had a winning season he would of been in the Pro Bowl ( he should of anyway) 6 sacks 5 ints, 114 yrds runbacks (ints). 7 pass def. plus he missed a game. Champ never had stats like that.
This was hard to pick though!!

Jansen is my pick. He has been with us the longest. Didn't he take a pay cut so that we could have cap space a few years ago?
McMetal
June-9th-2005, 12:58 PM
Jansen by a long shot.
IMO, several of those guys don't belong on that list because they are free agents who have been Redskins for all of a year. We may as well be renting them.
Jansen and Arrington at least are core Redskins who have been here since their 1st day in the league. Arrington is automatically disqualified for being a loudmouth pain in the *ss who has routinely trashed the FO in the press.
Jansen by comparison is an excellent player, locker room guy, and has not embarassed himself or the organization. Despite a very discouraging injury, he was nothing but positive last year, and all through his rehab, unlike #56.
Of course, this is all just my interpretation of the question. If we're strictly talking about talent alone, that's different.

Portis and Washington on offense and defense.
And I wouldn't put Moss or Cooley on the list over Ramsey.

My vote goes to Cornelius Griffin. Yes, I understand that that isn’t the sexy pick but IMO nobody on the list performed at the level he did last year. There are several guys on that list who have great potential but none of them have proven to be as solid as Griffin to this point. He anchors the D-Line in a way we haven’t seen around DC in years.

Yah...the category was best Redskin; Jansen definitely fits that mold the best. And he did restructure his contract a couple years ago; not sure what the details were or if he took a paycut, but he did it with no questions asked. I think the FO practically had to beg Samuels to redo his deal....

On offense, Portis hands down. On defense, it's tough to choose between Griffin, Springs, and Washington.
Taylor had a pretty good rookie year, but I can't believe how so many of you are already anointing him as the next Ray Lewis. He may be the most athletic guy on the roster, but so was M. Westbrook back in the day. There's at least half a dozen guys more important than Sean Taylor on the roster right now, and that has nothing to do with off field issues.

June-9th-2005, 01:58 PM
Hands down, Jon Jansen. He has it all. Skills, attitude, character, leadership..... He is what all Redskins should be.
Portis - I gotta see more out of him as a Redskin. Our best game last year (Vikings) was with Portis on the bench.
Taylor - gotta give me more than one year.
LaVar - In my opinion, not living up to the hype. He talks a good game, but doesn't deliver as much. Whines too much too.
Springs - let's see him with a rook on the other side.
Washington and Griffin - deserve consideration, but again, I want to see more of it.
Cooley - gimme more than one year.
The rest aren't even worthy of being in this discussion.

Well, aside from Gibbs...
...Buges.
Ok, ok. Jon Jansen or Chris Samuels, take your pick. Home grown, great attitude and character, great players at their positions. Jansen seems to be a bit more of a visible and vocal leader, but it's pretty clear that Samuels has the right head on his shoulders as well.
Portis is the one guy who can make the biggest difference by himself, but it remains to be seen if he's the best Redskin. It does seem like it after one season -- ignoring his occasional bouts of vocal brainlessness -- so hopefully my opinion changes next offseason. :point2sky

I vote Jansen. Then Washington & Springs because of them being recent players - with Cooley coming in 4th. Along with being a stud player, Jansen is a leader and a good guy off the field. He's great with the media and I'm proud to call him a Redskin. Still a 'wait and see' on Portis - I like him, and hope that he'll be at the top of this list next year. I just get the feeling that if things don't go his way, he could cut and run at any moment (not sure why).
Sick of Lavar's ¢rap, so he's dropped off the chart alltogether for me.

I chose Marcus Washington..I know he only had the one season with us last year..and picking a one year guy over ones that have been here may seem odd..I just like that guy's attitude and what he brings, and how he plays the game. Having a probowl season doesn't hurt.
It was between Washington and Clinton Portis to me. I like Shawn Springs alot too though, I thought he had an above average season. Hard to pick one guy. And hurry back LaVar..hope he's ready to tear it up.
A while ago, it would have been clear-cut to me..LaVar. But after that public whining and stuff dude wore on me. He can fall back in favor easily by having a probowl-like season. Obviously you cant hold his being injured against him.

I voted for LaVar Arrington. Clinton Portis is a real close second. Maybe I didn't understand the question. I thought you wanted to know the BEST PLAYER on the team. Why are people mentioning how long a player has been on the team?? What does that have to do with anything? I didn't think we were naming "Mr. Redskin." Why would Rabach or Moss be included in the poll if we were? Maybe the starter of the thread should clarify. I voted on talent.

First of all, how could the two guys that missed the entire 2004 season be voted so high. This must be based on something other than what I thought. Because the two that I thought were the best right now are the lowest...Griffin and Springs. But if I had to choose one, it would be C.Griffin.

Comes down to CP, Washington, and Lavar.
CP is easily our best offensive player.
Washington was our only pro bowler last year.

I'm surprised by this poll. Surprised that so many think Sean Taylor, after one season is the single best player on the team. Surprised that people by a margin of 40-6 think Washington is better than LaVar, and I'm also surprised that Casey Rabach has 6 votes while Santana Moss has 0. Interesting results of this poll.

I voted Portis. He's an elite runningback and is the only player that would get consideration as being the best in the game at his position right now going into the 2005 season. LaVar would get that consideration if he wasn't coming off an injury riddled season. Sean will be there (if he's not in jail) pretty soon.
Talentwise certainly LaVar and Sean belong right there anyway.
If "Mr. Redskin" is the criteria it's LaVar hands down...not even close. He's been fantastic on the field. Despite the fact he's been forced to learn a new defense every year of his career and in that new defense he was given new responsibilities every single time. He is also great with the fans off the field. If he's got a beef with the organization, that's between him and Dan Snyder...it doesn't effect me. I love the "he's been a disappointment" comments regarding LaVar. The only "off" year he had was the George Edwards disaster season of 2003...of course Jon Jansen was horrific during the 2003 season..much worse than Arrington and yet no one brings that up. LaVar worked his butt off to get back and play at the end of the 2004 season despite the fact that the Skins were going nowhere. It may not have been the smartest thing to do long term, but it demonstrates the passion he has to play the game and the sacrifices he's willing to make on behalf of the team.
As you may have guessed, best way to push my buttons is to start bashing LaVar Arrington.:D

Lavar is going to be the man for many years to come barring anymore injuries! just wait and see...everyone gets mad at him because he wants 6.5 MILLION DOLLARS!!! I pick LaVar, Look I know some of you fans are mad at him because of what he said this offseason- and you should be- but we all know it was out of frustration, Give the guy a break- He represented this team though all the ruff seasons when players like Bailey, couldn't take losing anymore, and Not Once did he say he wanted play anywhere else- through coaching changes and money issuses- NOT ONCE- But I hate when players get hurt and some stupid fan acts as if he is useless because he didn't play- Now the 3-time Pro-Bowler is dead weight and we should release him- Then thoughs same FAIR-WEATHER FANS will love him again as soon as he lays out a Quarterback-
P.S. Remember his first contact back from injury in the 49er's Game, when he blew the LINEMAN away- watch what happens this season.

Hard to pick...Arrington, Portis, and Taylor (Heck, Washington, too) are absolutely incredible, but I haven't seen Arrington play to his best ability in about a year, mostly due to his injury, Taylor's just being an idiot right now, so even though that has nothing to do with the actual question, it does eliminate him, so Portis is left. One of the best RBs in the NFL, but he was stuck in a lousy system last year.

I love Ramsey and everything, but I am so sick of excuses. Now hardcore Ramsey fans have excuses if he can't get the job done this year? Look, we all know SS did not believe in protecting the QB. Fine. He LOST his job to Brunell last year in the preseason, and that's a fact (if you don't believe me, try to look up last year's preseason games). He has now rightfully retaken his position as starter, and has a rookiee QB coming on board. So you mean he'll have competition for a second year in a row? Well, that's just not fair
But don't tell me about the "psycho job" the 'Skins have done to him. He's a pro QB. If he can't handle it, then he has no business being on the field. However, I think he can and will handle it, and prove to be successful this year. He's a pro athlete getting paid a lot of money. The time for holding his hand and making excuses is over.

Actually, both Ramsey and Brunell were pretty terrible last offseason. I think Gibbs went with Brunell because Ramsey was not good and he prefers veteran QBs. I guarantee you our record would have been better if Ramsey had been in there all 16 games. And I guarantee you our record will be better this year with Ramsey in there for all 16 games (among other reasons).

While Brunell may not have "lit it up" in the preseason, I felt that Ramsey's play was so bad that it gave Gibbs an easy decision to make. Now, in hindsight saying that Ramsey would've won more games than Brunell is more than obvious. However, to have Ramsey listed on this poll would be absurd. Almost as absurd as saying it will be the Redskins' fault if he doesn't succeed this year.

Uhm, because it was a freaking amazing rookie season and people are expecting more this year. Plus... "The Shocker"
He had a great rookie season, but to call it "freaking amazing" and call him the best player on the team, is in my opinion, a big stretch. I guess you all feel he is very justified in wanting a new contract after one year.

Right now I'd have to go with M. Washington.
I think Taylor has the tools to be the best player on the team if he can get his act together.
