View Full Version : Nats making jim palmer eat his words

I remember before the season started there was a big segment on comcast about the nats/os. Jim palmer was asked if the nats had any affect on the orioles fan base etc. He answered by laughing and saying, "if i wanted to see class a ball i would go to a minor league game." I personally want to see the nats and os do well, i just thought it was funny that the nats are doing so well and just recalled palmer saying that in march.

Especially since we outdraw them... it will only get better (or worse, depending on your perspective) once the new stadium is ready.

Im definetly a nats fan all the way... im just not an orioles hater. I cant wait to see what the stadium is going to look like. I wonder if theyre going to give it an old time feel with a modern twist or make a state of the art ball park. Either way things are only going up from here. Free agents are really going to look at washington as a good place to play.

I'm an Orioles hater, I always have been. Jim Palmer is a jerk who likes to hear himself talk.

Count me in on the Orioles H-A-T-E-R camp. I'm a Washingtonian not a Baltimoran. For you O's fans, how do you think your Ravens are going to do this year? And don't even try to say its different because it isn't. Cheering for Washington's geographic rival in baseball is no different than cheering for the geographic rival in football. In fact, the Ravens and its ownership has never had the audacity to disrespect and mistreat Washingtonians, while the O's have.

I grew up on the O's and Skins, so not everyone is stictly a Skins/Nats fan. Once you are brought up on a team, I am firm believer that you can not abandon them just because another team pops up in your area. I could have also done that with the Ravens, but did not.

He said that? Interesting. I'm 3 years running on my boycott of Camden Yards and the only time I would consider going back is to see the Nats play there. And comments like these are why. Most, not all, but most O's fans are pretty obnoxious when it comes to the Nats. Not really sure why. You support your team, we'll support ours.

Wow. I can't believe he said that.

I grew up a huge O's fan, and I can't believe Palmer would disrespect a Major League team like that. My love for the Nats has grown past the O's and Phillies(lived there for 15 years).

Palmer turned into such a turd. I hope people have made sure he remembers saying that!

Love for a Baseball team does not equal love for a football team. My love for the the Skins will never die! :point2sky

I also grew up and Orioles fan. I was 14 when they won the World Series and could name you the lineup for all O's team from the late 70s to mid 80s. However, I am a believer that loyalty is a two-way street. You will not run into a more loyal person than me, but it has to be reciprocated. The O's management has done a lot of disrispect to ALL its fans but specially to its Washington based fans. Damage that is irriversible. These comments by Jim Palmer are just another exampleof how this organization is so vendictive. You can turn a blind eye to it if you like, but as long as people like you do, it will never change.

Jim Palmer is an excellent analyst who tends to make horrible jokes. During a game the other day, fellow announcer Jim Hunter mentioned that Nomar Garciapparra was winning the NL SS vote despite being injured for almost all of the year. Palmer then cracked, "I guess his Italian supporters are getting on their computers and voting for him."

Italian? He's latino and from California. oops.

How many of the so called "Orioles Haters" are just really Angelos haters and would like the O's if he wasn't the owner?

You can put me in that category.

Although I am sick and damn tired of O's fans shouiting "O" during the national anthem at RFK. Whomever started that chant should be beaten. I personally find it very disrespectful, not just to Nats fans, but to the anthem in general.

Except for your post being in all caps, thats an excellent point. Just shows how shallow he is.

Agree.

Has nothing to do with Angelos, just the Baltimore in their name. Always root for the home team.

'Skins, Nats, 'Zards, Terps & Caps.

you live in eastern shore MD!!!! the orioles would be your home team...the owner should have nothing to do with liking the team or not...the players are the one's who play the game...not the owner...if thats the case, then a lot of you shouldnt like the redskins cause Snyder ups the prices on everything every year and thats disrespecting the fans also because they're not producing....the orioles are my team because i grew up liking them because they were the home team...i just cant drop them because the nationals came to DC....i mean i root for them and they're my second team now (and i've never had a second favorite team in any sport) but when the nats and the o's play against eachother, im definately going to root for the o's....its like if they started a northern virginia football team or a reston football team (i live in reston), the skins will always be my team...i dont even think i would root for the NOVA team because there's only room for one football team for me....and that belongs to the skins...but baseball isnt football so i can like 2 teams :D

Well, it is still only June. Let's see if Ryan Church and Brian Schneider are still getting huge hits in September before we ask people to "eat their words" just yet.

Didn't he say AA ball? No matter what happens, that pompous ***** was wrong, end of story. So he should eat his words.

What does it matter? Isn't it a little early for anyone to say that anyone else was "wrong" about given teams???

The Orioles have exceeded expectations even more than the Nats. Am I ready to say that people saying that they'd finish 3rd or 4th should eat their words?? Of course not, it's June.

I guess all I'm saying is last year's Expos could easily return to stay before all is said and done. At that point, comparing them to a minor-league team wouldn't seem so ill-advised.

If you're asking if his statement is appropriate, of course it's not, but it still could hold some water once they've played 162 games.

Ok, so if it weren't for Angelos some of you would like the Orioles just fine?

The difference between Cooke and Modell is that the NFL doesn't have a problem selling tix. Every team sells out, minus maybe Arizona. Angelos (and I agree, he is a doucheloaf) is just trying to protect his business. If you had a lemonade stand and sold to an entire neighborhood, wouldn't you be pissed if someone encroached on your customers and set up shop down the street? You can't really blame him for trying not to lose his fans. But I agree, the dudes a prick. Still doesn't stop me from loving the players and the team though.

I'm a Nationals Fan, but still want the O's to do well because they have been my team all of my life. However ever since Angelo's bought the team it has been harder to route them on because Angelo's is a jerk.

The O's are a team with great history and hopefully Angelo's will be history sooner rather than later.

I can't wait till the O's play the Nat's......GO NATS!!!!

Well, its true. One can argue that Snyder is an idiot and has ruined the Skins, yet we still root for the team. Just cause he owns the team doesn't mean you have to hate LaVar, Portis, etc. So why's it different for baseball? The owners shouldn't matter.

TheDoyler23
June-10th-2005, 02:56 PM
I will always be a die hard Orioles fan no matter where they are in the stands on who the owner is. I also support the Nats as I think any self-respecting resident of Maryland or Virginia should. Hell, I've been the one posting their news on this board!

I love the Redskins just the same. So does everybody here save for a few of the respected opponents (who we all know are really closet redskins fans.) I also root for the Ravens, but I'm not a fan. They represent my home state/area just as the Redskins do.

Is Angelos a dick? Absolutely. Was he right on a lot of things? Yes. Was it easy to make everything in the universe his fault? sure.

Go Nats! And especially Go O's!

(And Palmer can be full of hot air sometimes, but he knows his baseball)

If it weren't for Angelos, I would have no problem cheering for them or even going to games at Camdem Yards. Nats would still be my main team, though.

As for not trying to lose fans, I agree I can't blame him for that. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. You do it by making sure you provide a great lemonade and good marketing and giving the consumer reasons to get lemonade from you and not from the other shop. You don't do it by throwing a temper tantrum to try to prevent the shop from opening up. Then, once that fails you don't resort to claiming that those customers that would be closest to the new shop weren't good customers to being with and don't really like lemonade anyway.

If you fail to see the difference then we are wasting our time here.

Can you guys get the Nationals to lose a game? Please? The Phillies are 10-1 on their homestand and aren't picking up any games on Washington. :(

Should be a fun race in the NL East the rest of the year.
