I think it's still a 50/50 chance that we could resign Hughes this offseason. He's a hot player on the market right now.
What do you guys think about Hayes quite possibly replacing him on the starting lineup as our SG? He isn't all that bad. He has a good mid-range jumper but he needs to attack the basket more often.

Hayes is real athletic and rebounds well. He was a consistent shooter before his injury and should be able to regain his form. However he isn't aggressive enough. I like him off the bench. I don't know if he could replace Hughes, but I think he could do well starting @ 2......:2cents:

If we absolutely had to lose hughes then i think hayes could fill in and do well (16.5 pts 6 boards)... but wed still be missin an awful lot. Hayes can be a deadly 6th man for us next year. A lineup of Arenas, Hughes, Hayes, Jamison, Haywood is very potent.

No.
Not as much offense and not as much on defense. Hughes made the all defense team. Can't let him go

Larry did everthing for us last year. He d'ed, rebounded, passed, and scored. Theres no guard in the league that filled up the stat sheets like him.

I love Hayes as our 6th man but not as a starter.
So....no.

He hasnt proven he can, so it would be a roll of the dice to hope that he could. He has the size and talent but he hasnt put it all together yet. He is also a little soft still. He would need to learn to drive more and play better D. If he wasnt hurt so much last year we would know by know what he could do.
That all being said, I think we would be a better team with a few less shots coming from the 1-2 possition, so him being less then Hughes could be a good thing.
We have front court players on the rise so they need to ball more.
Hughes hasnt shown he can do that enough.
So if we loss Hughes and dont get anything for him that would leave room for Hayes, Dixon, Profit, and D Brown. Yes, I think D Brown would be a real interesting 2.

He can handle the ball well. Fast break and shot pretty well. He is kind of raw still but so was Simmons when we let him go. I though the kid had some game. I would like to see him get some minutes.
Yeah, lossing Hughes would hurt because he is a matured talent and a leader with confidence. Thats the thing that would hurt the most. I would like to see these other talents develop but it would be a step back to do so but in the long run we may be better off doing it. If rather keep Larry if we could just get him to shot less and pass more. Thats the best of all worlds.

Naw, hayes couldn't replace Hughes. Hughes has a better eye and better feel for the game overall. He has that court vision on defense and at times on offense. But plays out of control at times. But hayes still couldn't do all the little things that hughes does.
Also, Hayes needs to build more confidence in shooting the ball and taking it to the hole. And frankly, he's still developing and that's why he's being sent to the summer leagues again.
If we lose hughes, he need to sign another descent SG that could compliment Arena's, but plays more within the scheme of things instead of jacking shots and plaing one-on-one offense.

Hayes doesn't have the ability to penetrate and score the way Hughes does. They are probably even on perimeter shooting, but then Hughes is still the better defender.
