Camp update for the haters. 8-01-05

- Barton & Coles were on the field today doing all drills

- During drills defense really looked sharp. They were diagnosing plays
well even blowing up a WR end around. Also, flushed the QB out of the
pocket on a number of occasions

- Miller showed good ability to jam WR at the line. Donnie did get on him
once when he let Dressen run into the end zone. "Hit him let me see
what you got" Donnie told him

- Mickens had a nice INT, Maddox blew up Askew and Mcclover blew up
the rookie FB Nwabuisi

COLES WAS BACK ON THE FIELD THIS MORNING!!!!!!!

Being on the field for training camp and being at full speed in the regular season are two different t hings. The jets are foolish if they think Coles is anywhere near the wideout they let go.

TD_washingtonredskins

Exactly. I'm glad he's not seriously hurt, but the fact that his toe bothered him at all on the first day of TC would be a concern.

Anyway, good luck with him, I really would like him to be successful.

No one here hates coles, Cole Slaw. But I think its obvious that he isnt what he used to be. If you look how he was with the Jets (1st run), and how he was the first 5,6 weeks with the Redskins, he was so much better than he was the rest of his time here in DC. He showed flashes of his old self (Eagle game), but hes not hte same. I wish him well.

When a Cleveland Brown nickelback outruns you for a deep ball, it is not fine. Say what you want, but you were probably the main one trashing coles when he left New York. Now that he's back the homer glasses make the toe injury non-existant.

He will play hurt cause he is tough, but he will be mostly ineffective. Until that toe is repaired he will be a shadow of his former self.

The thing with this injury is it does not keep him from playing, just keep him from being dangerous or effective.

So there you have it ,Coles Slaw. I've seen you around here in the offseason and you were tolerated but we're in camp now. We Skinfans get heated up and start to bite back this time of year. I noticed you haven't replied to any of the remarks about your abrasive thread so maybe you've figured out that at this point in his career, we know more about him than you do. Hopefully you'll make a quieter entrance when you next stop by.

We LOVED Laveraneus until the day he left. We don't want him to have a bad career. If you see threads where we find reason to celebrate the trade, it's just home team fans being loyal to their colors. If anyone from extremeskins has stopped by your Jets website to throw stones, I apologize on behalf of those idiots, but I doubt it's happened.

I've noticed a taunting tone to most of your posts and it hasn't really been in defense of the Jets but more to show up and be contentious. We have members from teams we dislike alot more than the J-E-T-S Jets and they manage to mellow and have fun once the snarling gets old. I hope you're able to do the same.

Yawn. Coles without blazing speed is pretty much an average at best reciever. He's not big, he doesnt make circus catches, he's just average. When he was 100% he was a huge weapon. Now? He's lost it. That injury is never going to allow him to be the player he once was. Come to think of it, he's Mark Brunell.

I went to Twain with Barton....I was one of his first friends when his mom and he moved from the west coast (at least I think thats where he came from) that was in seventh grade (1988-89). Lost touch through middle school and have not seen him since.....just good to hear he is doing well

My folks would not let me go to Edison, stuck me @ Ireton

ON the Coles front, f that guy....you never saw him miss a day of our camp either with an ailing toe...that does not mean he was ever worth the money we paid him....good luck with that one Jets....Coles will soon start downing the Jets as well....He has to realize the face of all his problems are not in the front office of his respective team, but in the mirror....

LOL! Jet fans here at work are cracking me up - saying they are not the least bit worried about it at this point. Really? It's not like he has a new injury (i.e. - knee sprain), he re-injured the exact same toe that has plagued him the last couple of years...but it's not a big deal?? Granted, it hasn't sidelined him at this point...but there should be serious concerns about his effectiveness.

Which is a very respectful and respectable way of putting it. I'm sure whoever is around will be ready with Santana Moss' stats as well. As long as we're winning it won't matter much to us what Coles' stats are. Our team has a long way to go to contend again and believe me, nobody is going to take time to "hate" on Coles. We adore the guy. But anytime there is an NFL trade, fans from both teams will look for events that make the trade seem favorable to their team. That's what you found when you checked in this morning and I can respect the fact that you updated us on his status but no need to look for "haters of Coles" around here. A few of us feel it was the right time to let him get away, that's all. Getting Santana was more than we expected to get for him.

You also may want to consider the fact the the Jets were the only team vocally willing to discuss a deal for Coles and that may be because they are expecting the old version to be back. Honestly, I hope they get it because it won't affect our season. Just as honestly, I doubt they will.

And slaw, I'll save you the trouble of having to post Coles' stats each week. I'll summarize his 2005 stats right now.

78 catches, 616 yds, 7.8 yds per reception avg., 3 TDs.

I think that's about accurate given Coles' gimpy wheel, and Pennington's spaghetti arm.
