WASHINGTON -- A discarded tube of ChapStick has resulted in a 19-year prison term for a young Washington man.
Twenty-three-year-old Jason Viney was sentenced to 48 years in prison with all but 19 years suspended after pleading guilty to carjacking and other charges Wednesday in Stafford County Circuit Court.
Police had recovered ChapStick that had been left behind during a pursuit of the suspect following a July 5. 2003, incident in Stafford.
DNA from the lip balm was determined to have come from Viney, who was in the state DNA databank as a result of a prior robbery conviction.
I was watching Cold Case Files last night. They had case about a woman that was killed with duct tape. 10 years later they decided to check the ends of the tape for DNA since they concluded that a person would most likely break it with their teeth. Sure enough, they nailed the guy because of it. Now who would have thunk it?:whoknows:
