It Aint Hard to Tell, by Nas.

It ain't hard to tell, I excel, then prevail
The mic is contacted, I attract clientele
My mic check is life or death, breathin a sniper's death
I exhale the yellow smoke of buddha through righteous steps
Deep like The Shinin', sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a uzi on the island in my army jacket linin
Hit the Earth like a comet, invasion
Nas is like the Afrocentric Asian, half-man, half-amazin
Cause in my physical, I can express throuh song
Delete stress like Motrin, then extend strong
I drank Moet with Medusa, give her shotguns in hell
From the spliff that I lift and inhale, it ain't hard to tell

The buddha monk's in your trunk, turn the bass up
Nas, stories by Aesop, place your loot up, parties I shoot up
Nas, I analyze, drop a jew-el
Inhale from the L, school a fool well, you feel it like braille
It ain't hard to tell, I kick the skill like Shaquille holds a pill
Vocabulary spills I'm Ill
plus Matic, I freak beats slam it like Iron Shiek
Jam like a tech with correct techniques
So analyze me, surprise me, but can't magmatize me
Scannin while you're plannin ways to sabatoge me
I leave em froze like her-on in your nose
Nas'll rock well, it ain't hard to tell

This rhythmatic explosion, is what your frame of mind has chosen
I'll leave your brain stimulated, niggaz is frozen
Speak with criminal slang, begin like a violin
End like Leviathan, it's deep well let me try again
Wisdom be leakin out my grapefruit troop
I dominate break loops, givin mics men-e-straul cycles
Street's disciple, I rock beats that's mega trifle
And groovy but smoother than moves by Villanova
You're still a soldier, I'm like Sly Stallone in Cobra
Packin like a rasta in the weed spot
Vocals'll squeeze glocks, MC's eavesdropT
Though they need not to sneak
My poetry's deep, I never fell
Nas's raps should be locked in a cell
It ain't hard to tell

Jay Z - Public Service Announcement

Nuff Said

Allow me to re-introduce myself
My name is Hov', OH, H-to-the-O-V
I used to move snowflakes by the O-Z
I guess even back then you can call me
CEO of the R-O-C, Hov'!
Fresh out the fryin pan into the fire
I be the, music biz number one supplier
Flyer/flier than a piece of paper bearin my name
Got the hottest chick in the game wearin my chain, that's right
Hov', OH - not D.O.C.
But similar to them letters, "No One Can Do it Better"
I check cheddar like a food inspector
My homey Strict told me, "Dude finish your breakfast"
So that's what I'ma do, take you back to the dude
with the Lexus, fast-forward the jewels and the necklace
Let me tell you dudes what I do to protect this
I shoot at you actors like movie directors
This ain't a movie dog

Ving ain't lie
I done came through the block in everything that's fly
I'm like, Che Guevara with bling on, I'm complex
I never claimed to have wings on
N***a I get mine - by any means on whenever there's a drought
Get your umbrellas out because, that's when I brainstorm
You can blame Shawn, but I ain't invent the game
I just rolled the dice, tryin to get some change
And I do it twice, ain't no sense in me
lyin as if, I am a different man
And I could blame my environment but
there ain't no reason why I be buyin expensive chains
Hope you don't think users are the only abusers
N****z, gettin high within the game
If you do then, how would you explain?
I'm ten years removed, still the vibe is in my veins
I got a hustler spirit, n***a period
Check out my hat yo, peep the way I wear it
Check out my swag' yo, I walk like a ballplayer
No matter where you go, you are what you are player
And you can try to change but that's just the top layer
Man, you was who you was 'fore you got here
Only God can judge me, so I'm gone
Either love me, or leave me alone

Minds Playing Tricks On Me was a good performance by all of them.

I love Scarface and the Geto Boys, so I'd say "First Light of the Day," "G-Code" in there as great performances.

I like Illone's mention of Pete Rock and CL Smooth in TROY

Mos Def in Respiration was a pretty good one. In terms of vocal/lyrical performances, Tupac and Biggie did have some great ones too.

Pure MC-wise, Rakim had a couple good joints from his 'comeback' double CD--"Guess Who's Back" and "18th Letter."

MF Doom and Count Bass-D: "Potholderz"

[DWIGHT SPITS]
I strive to be humble lest I stumble
Never sold a jumbo or copped chicken with it's mumbo sauce
Tyson is a Fowl holocaust
Fill and gas your whole head up with poetry I'm fed up
Ignore cordon bleu
Stand up get up
Lunge for your knife
Don't forget your potholders

[MF DOOM]
What
These old things
About to throw them away
With the gold rings that make 'em don't fit like O.J
Usually I take them off with oil of ole
MC's is crabs in a barrel pass the old bay
Hot as hell and it's a cold day in it
Working on a way that we roll away tinted
Some say the price of holdin heat is often too high
You either be in a coffin or you be the new guy
The one that's too fly to eat shoe pie
[never too busy]
Never too busy when it comes down to you and I
[Swear to god]
A lot of niggaz wish to die
Need to hold they horses
There's bigger fish to fry
Your on the list
If not hit the number spot
Ten and a half Timbs is made to kick your bumbaclot
Could have had a V-8
F-150 quad cab but I'll be straight
Money comes and goes like that two bit hussy that night that tried to rush me
Dwight pass da dutchie
So I can calm down so they don't get it twisted
Take it from the fire side it wont get blistered
Got it
What happened oh it's not lit
These metal fingers be holding hot ****

[DWIGHT SPITS]
When I was four I pen god was born in new york
Back in seventy seven still got nan in the crescent
The effervescence of gods presence is thick
Unlike vapor
Escarole
extra roll
Word to the baker
Peace to the hard working gingerbread makers
Looked her up and down said hmmmm too much make up
Poor music taste
Ten years from being grown up
Rappers don't blow up, heads do
[hot ****]
My name is Dwight Spits
And I'ma sonic addict
I use to think it was merely a nagging habit
Born under a bad sign
I'm serious about this curse of mine
I strive to flip it in the fine wine
Barely born a virgin is what the stars said
Black not white red all over though like elmo
Twenty eight years have passed, I feel I'm peaking
I make music every weekend
It's a chore
A fact of life
A labor of love
I get mad love but I detest the labor
And it's wages
You know death
I serving life from this gift of god
Don't forget your potholders my niggaz

Song: Vein

[Vordul]
Pop goes the flow of the weasel
Strapped with an Ox full of diesel
Trapped in the desert with eagles
Thoughts of ghetto acapellas in cathedrals
Spilling heavy gospels with cheaters
Twisted up, high off the reefer
Lost beyond regions of logic and reason, just being
We high so be not so obedient to society's laws and limitations
Lost in this ghetto population
I'm just another face that's facing all types of, like
Stereotypes and hatred
But I ain't going to whet that and get all stressed out
I'm just trying to make it and strive with my...
Hellbent
Hell went through changes, emotions, inner thoughts and rages
Relieved and released on pages
My life in its cycle and stages
Seen through descriptions in nature
Ever since back in the days when niggaz was loving and hating
Everyone trapped and two thou caught The Matrix
With diseases of judgement that breed through the hatred
Conceived through these scenes and then painted

Now what really defines the line of a hater
And what defines the line of someone even greater
And what makes somebody jump that line trying to take it
Wrapped behind enemy lines trying to make it
Mind in another universe while my physical's stuck on the earth
In these inner city mazes

[Vast Aire]
Yo (11x)
Lay that **** down
What is you, a clown?
You wanna see a little kid get shot?
Give me two good reasons so I don't smack you
For flashing a gun in my face just to get some respect
All in all, it's all love and I'm here to protect
You only twelve years old, someone'll snap your neck
You let your pants sag, but your thoughts gotta pull up
Mental calisthenics, lazer brains can't push up
Or even sit up to fight for what they believe in
He thought about it
I said, "Peace, keep breathing."
I see him mumbling, shrugging his shoulder
He probably cursing, but he know better
He had a beretta with the rubbed off serial digit
And I know he got it from Carlos The Midget
The only cat I know cold enough to hustle **** to kids
Been in this three man team forming eight arm squid
And they laugh in the face of
Any possibilities of being through and dead
We're all from the same ghettos
And these are the same hollow tips that knock nearly out of stilettos
He cocked first, I cocked second
And in that exact second both of the gats burst

"Man, this is your last ****ing chance."
"**** you, this is your last chance."

[Vordul]
Live and orchestrated
From blocks where animals grew up as four lazers
We twist mad sabres
Rock the sky pimping jays all day blazes
Wrapped in these inner city mazes
Relaxing on corners where cats stay wasted
Choking on 4-0 basics, you taste it
My life's an oasis, this trife's what I make it
Straight through these days spitting raps that laced it
I'm just trying to blaze these mics on the stages
Write on these pages like life as a scene, in amazement
Like, "Ima stay blazing mics until I'm fading
Off of this surface to return to my nature"
In the meantime, spit flows and cop acres
Put my fam in it with shelter that spaces
Everyday life, yo, is rap in these mazes
I'm just trying to make it
The O-E slowly dissolves in my belly, got me aching
Niggaz up the block, yo I swear, trying to take it
But I'ma stay patient, watching every move made in the jungle
It's live trying to strive in this struggle
New York state of mind, that's the home that I come to
Nothing but pigeons living, trapped in this system
Bleeding, screaming...phoenix
We needed that scrap for that meaning to stay shining
Trying to escape out of hellfires and lakes
Brain on another plane gliding through acid rain
That's stress trying to master pain
Spit words, not to hurt, but to bash your brain
That's the worth of an MC wrapped in the vein
New York

And of course.....the Wu

"Triumph"

[Ol Dirty Bastard]
What y'all think you wasn't gonna see me?
I'm the Osiris of this ****
Wu-Tang is here forever, mother****er
It's like this ninety-seven
Aight my niggaz and niggarettes
Let's do it like this
I'ma rub your ass in moonshine
Let's take it back to seventy-nine

[Inspectah Deck]
I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies
and high prophecies can't define it how I be droppin these
mockeries, lyrically, perform armed robbery
Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me
Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits
tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics
I inspect you, through the future see millenium
Killa B's sold fifty gold, sixty platinum,
Shackling the matches with drastic rap tactics
Graphic displays melting the steel like blacksmiths
Black Wu jackets queen B's ease the guns an'
Rumblein patrolmen tearg as laced the function
Heads by the score take flight incite a war
Chicks hit the floor, diehard fans demand more
Behold the bold soldier, control the globe slowly
Proceeds to blow swingin' swords like Shinobi
Stomp grounds I pound footprints in solid rock
Wu got it locked, performin live on your hottest block

[Method Man]
As the world turns, I spread like germs
Bless the globe with the pestilence, the hard-headed never learn
It's my testament to those burnt
Play my position in the game of life, standing firm
on foreign land, jump the gun out the frying pan, into the fire
Transform into the Ghostrider, a six-pack
and A Streetcar Named Desire, who got my back?
In the line of fire holding back, what?
My peoples if you with me where the **** you at?
Niggaz is strapped, and they trying to push my big cap
It's court adjourned, for the bad seed from bad sperm
Herb got my wig fried like a bad perm, what the blood
clot?, we smoke pot and blow spots
You wanna think twice, I think not
The Iron Lung ain't got ta tell you where it's coming from
Guns of Navarone, tearing up your battle zone
Rip through your slums

[Cappadonna]
I twist darts from the heart, tried and true
Loop my voice on the LP, martini on the slang rise
Certified chatterbox, vocabulary 'Donna talking
Tell your story walking
Take cover kid, what? Run for your brother, kid
Run for your team, and your six camp rhyme groupies
So I can squeeze with the advantage, and get wasted
My deadly nose reigns supreme
Your fort is basic compared to mine
Domino effect, arts and crafts
Paragraphs contain cyanide
Take a free ride on my dart, I got the dashin
catalogues for all y'all to all praise to the Gods

[Ol Dirty Bastard]
Da saga continues
Wu-Tang, Wu-Tang

[U-God]
Olympic torch flaming, we burn so sweet
The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat
We crush slow, flaming deluxe slow
For, judgment day come'th, conquer, it's war
Allow us to escape, hell blows spinning bomb
Pocket full of shells out the sky, Golden Arms
Tune strictly ****ty Mortal Kombat sound
The fateful step make, the blood stain the ground
A jungle junkie, vigilante tantrum
A death kiss, cap off squeeze another anthem
Hold it for ransom, tranquilized with anesthetics
My orchestra, graceful, music ballerinas
My music Sicily, rich California smell
An axekiller adventure, paint a picture well
I sing a song from Sing-Sing, sippin on ginseng
Righteous wax chaperone, rotating ring king

[RZA]
Watch for the wooden soldiers, C-cypher punks couldn't hold us
A thousand men rushing in, not one nigga was sober
Perpendicular to the square, we stand bold like Flare
Escape from your Dragon's Lair, in particular
My beats travel like a vortex, through your spine
to the top of your cerebral cortex
Make you feel like you bust a nut for raw sex
Enter through your right ventricle clog up your bloodstream
heart terminal, like Grand Central Station
Program fat baselines, eye-no-vation
Getting drunk like a ****ing skunk on five-year probation

[GZA]
War of the masses, the outcome, disastrous
Many of the victim family save they ashes
A million names on walls engraved in plaques
Those who went back, received penalties for the axe
Another hard nigga diss, close ones gone
Those who stray niggas get slayed by the song

[Masta Killa]
The track renders helpless and suffers from multiple stab wounds
and leaks sounds that's heard
ninety-three million miles away from came one
to represent the Nation, this is a gathering
of the masses that come to pay respects to the Wu-Tang Clan
As we engage in battle, the crowd now screams in rage
The high chief Jamel Irief, takes the stage
Light is provided through sparks of energy
from the mind that travels in rhyme form
Giving sight to the blind
The dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum
Death only one can save shell from
This relentless attack of the track spares none

[Ghostface Killah]
Yo! Yo! Yo, **** that, look at all these crab niggaz laid back
Lampin like the million black womens on my man's rag
Codeine was forced in your drink
You had a Navy Green salamander fiend, **** she never heard you scream
You two-faces, scum of the slum, I got your whole body numb
Blowing like Shalamar in eighty-one
Sound convincing, thousand dollar court by convention
Hairs like Sonny Liston, get fly permission holder
**** it, I'ma fasten your wig, bad luck
I humiliate, separate the English from the Dutch
it's me, black trouble through Ali
Came to trees we like the Genovese
Is that so? Caesar needs the greens
It's Earth, ninety-three million miles from the first
Rough turbulence, the waveburst, split the megahertz

[Raekwon]
Aiyyo decimation, gun in your mouth talk, verbal foul off
Connect thoughts to make my man Shai walk
Swift notarizer, Wu-Tang, all up in the high-riser
New York gang adviser world tranquilizer
Just the dosage, delegate my Clan with explosives
While, my pen blow lines ferocious
Mediterranean, see ya, the number one traffic
sit down the beat God, then delegate the God to see God
The swift chancellor, Lex, the white-gold tarantula
Track truck diesel, play the weed God, substantiala
Max mostly, undivided, then slide it, it's sickening
Guaranteed to make you jump like Rod Strickland

Damn, DUH.. Triumph was one tight ass display of flow(by everyone except the one lame ass guy they have. Can't even remember his lame name)

But Raekwon, Deck and Ghost KILLED THAT. But then they tend to do that alot. Heaterz was pretty good, RZA hooked up a nasty beat for that.

Ice Cube had some great ones:

"How to Survive in South Central"

"WHen WIll they Shoot?" How can that not be up there? "Wicked" was pretty tight as was "Say Hi to the Bad Guy."

Mc Eiht in "Growing up in the Hood" More for his voice and accent than lyricism

For energy and bleak despair and danger handled deftly with panache and enthusiasm, Onyx in "THangz Changed":

"Ay yo, you can't escape the ghetto
Hell no, it's everywhere you go!...

It all began when Shorty Rock took the law in his own hand
Sick of seein his moms gettin beat up by his old man
So he did what any kid woulda done
Went into the closet, got his pop's gun
Who need enemy when you got family?
It's hard to get a job when you look like me (WORD UP!)
See people don't just rob cause they on unemployment
Some do it for the pure satisfaction enjoyment
Brrrr, it's cold, this world is freezin
Folks gettin murdered over no apparent reason (NO!)
Packin they bags, talkin bout they leavin
But where you gonna go? You can't escape THE GHETTO!
You see more when you HIGH, even less when you LOW
You can't run from your own shadow"

"It ain't hard to tell" is weak, when it's compared to "NY State of mind."

Rappers I monkey flip 'em with the funky rhythm I be kickin
Musician, inflictin composition
of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine
Holdin a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a nine and I'll defeat foes
Y'all know my steelo with or without the airplay
I keep some E&J, sittin bent up in the stairway
Or either on the corner bettin Grants with the celo champs
Laughin at baseheads, tryin to sell some broken amps
G-Packs get off quick, forever niggaz talk ****
Remeniscing about the last time the Task Force flipped
Niggaz be runnin through the block shootin
Time to start the revolution, catch a body head for Houston
Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Pick the Mac up, told brothers, "Back up," the Mac spit
Lead was hittin niggaz one ran, I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze heard it click yo, my **** is stuck
Try to **** it, it wouldn't shoot now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back and saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby
and it was filled with children probably couldn't see as high as I be
(So whatchu sayin?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger niggaz pullin the triggers bringing fame to they name
and claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
Fo'-fives and gauges, Macs in fact
Same niggaz'll catch a back to back, snatchin yo' cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block gettin niggaz knocked
So hold your stash until the coke price drop
I know this crackhead, who said she gotta smoke nice rock
And if it's good she'll bring ya customers in measuring pots, but yo
You gotta slide on a vacation
Inside information keeps large niggaz erasin and they wives basin
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind

Be havin dreams that I'ma gangster -- drinkin Moets, holdin Tecs
Makin sure the cash came correct then I stepped
Investments in stocks, sewein up the blocks
to sell rocks, winnin gunfights with mega cops
But just a nigga, walking with his finger on the trigger
Make enough figures until my pockets get bigger
I ain't the type of brother made for you to start testin
Give me a Smith and Wessun I'll have niggaz undressin
Thinkin of cash flow, buddah and shelter
Whenever frustrated I'ma hijack Delta
In the P.J.'s, my blend tape plays, bullets are strays
Young bitches is grazed each block is like a maze
full of black rats trapped, plus the Island is packed
From what I hear in all the stories when my peoples come back, black
I'm livin where the nights is jet black
The fiends fight to get crack I just max, I dream I can sit back
and lamp like Capone, with drug scripts sewn
Or the legal luxury life, rings flooded with stones, homes
I got so many rhymes I don't think I'm too sane
Life is parallel to Hell but I must maintain
and be prosperous, though we live dangerous
cops could just arrest me, blamin us, we're held like hostages
It's only right that I was born to use mics
and the stuff that I write, is even tougher than dykes
I'm takin rappers to a new plateau, through rap slow
My rhymin is a vitamin, held without a capsule
The smooth criminal on beat breaks
Never put me in your box if your **** eats tapes
The city never sleeps, full of villians and creeps
That's where I learned to do my hustle had to scuffle with freaks
I'ma addict for sneakers, twenties of buddah and bitches with beepers
In the streets I can greet ya, about blunts I teach ya
Inhale deep like the words of my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
I lay puzzle as I backtrack to earlier times
Nothing's equivalent, to the new york state of mind

Also, I thought I'd give some props to the guy who MF Doom lyrics on here, because MF Doom needs more exposure because he's awesome. I mean he's seriously so good I can't decide what his best album is. He rapped on Madvillainy, Vaudville Villain, and Oderation Doomsday. They're all great. outside of that, a lot of my favorites have been mentioned. while i don't think it's the best ever, "the foundation" by xzibit (to his son) is one of my favorites:

when i look into your eyes i can see my own
straight love manifested in flesh and bone
you're a breath of fresh air in this world of ****
you was born to be a soldier don't ever forget
hit back when hit use force that's effective
all these b**ches and women, son please be selective
this is california, can't stick your d##k in everything
we will survive, necessarily by any means
let no man ever hold you down or supress you
it's the 90's, the police just arrest you
disrespect you, on occasion take life
by the time you come of age they'll prolly blast on sight
it's a shame they protect them, but try to serve us
when your neck is on the line, stand your ground then bust
in god we trust
but just incase keep it loaded and locked
ready to rock, then shake the spot, the foundation

you came from a long line
of killers and drug dealers
who foreever smoke bud
so it's probably in your blood
realize you can only run the streets so long
then the streets run you, into the ground then gone
it's kinda ruff trying to teach you what's right from wrong
same **** different day it's the same old song
if the time ever comes that i meet my match
take control of my assets, f##k starting from scratch
take care of your mother, keep yourself on track
just 'cause n****S get behind you don't mean they got your back
beware of the serpent cause there is a time in life
the mothaf****r will strike and try to make you lose sight
don't be a fake mothaf***r trying to keep sh** real
fill cassettes w/ ideal threats, w/ no guts to kill
son, if you ever pull heat then use it
if you have a chance to walk away then do it
total domination takes full concentration
in all situations, a solid foundation

you are the foundation
beginning of a new generation
i remember hospital hallway pacing
i was anxious as f**k just to see your face shine
only to find that yours looked like mine
so ti's like i'm livin' twice at the exact same time
in this life you can't press stop then prewss rewind
gotta live to the fullest never follow behind
no man, have your own plan, expand your mind
aint no paper thin game to raise wanna be thugs
this is nothing but love, via satellite Muggs
take heed when it's your turn to bring new life
make sure it's the woman you gonna make your wife
be prepared for the worst but expect the best
no matter where life takes you, come home to the west
survivial takes more then just gats and guns
those are words to live by, from a father to a sun

I mean he's seriously so good I can't decide what his best album is. He rapped on Madvillainy, Vaudville Villain, and Oderation Doomsday. They're all great. I expect Dangerdoom to pretty awesome too.

Dangerdoom has already leaked. If you're a fan of Doom you'll like it.

Dangerdoom is awesome. Aquateen Hungerforce is my favorite off that album

I've also heard two tracks off the upcoming Ghostface meets Metalface and it seems to be shaping up to be Dooms best yet.
Just imagine Doom rapping over RZA-constructed beats

Pure performance? Busta Rhymes - Salute Da Gods!

Ear to Eat smiles when I first heard that. The production value was great, the uplifting beat, Busta's Larger than Life rap persona.......too sweet

Juicy - Notorious B.I.G.

That entire album is pretty much the best lyrical performance of all time...Ready to Die is one of my favorites and a top 10 album of all time.

Not what I'd call rap but still a great song.

What gets me is why nobody has shown any love for the greatest. Tupac Shakur.

He was a lyrical genius.
My favorite has to be Hit 'em up.

Everybody has great choices on this thread. Some really good music. Maybe its cliche to mention Tupac in a tap thread. But he deserves it.

The greatest rap stanza in hip hop history.Twenty years old and still the Mona Lisa of hip hop lyrics.

Eric B & Rakim's
My Melody:

I'm not a regular competitor, first rhyme editor
Melody arranger, poet, etcetera
Extra events, the grand finale like bonus
I am the man they call the microphonist
With wisdom which means wise words bein spoken
Too many at one time watch the mic start smokin
I came to express the rap I manifest
Stand in my way and I'll lead a ??? words protest
MC's that wanna be dissed they're gonna
Be dissed if they don't get from in fronta
All they can go get is me a glass of Moet
A hard time, sip your juice and watch a smooth poet
I take 7 MC's put em in a line
And add 7 more brothas who think they can rhyme
Well, it'll take 7 more before I go for mine
And that's 21 MC's ate up at the same time

I disagree.

All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop yo I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle
Dance go rush to the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous mushroom
Deadly when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it you better gain weight
You better hit bull's eye the kid don't play
If there was a problem yo I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

Lyrically there isn't much better than "Rewind" by Nas.

I cannot imagine the talent it takes to write a song like this. Mos Def, Common, and Rakim are very close in talent to Nas lyrically but I dont think anyone touches Nas.

Rewind

Listen up gangstas and honeys with ya hair done
Pull up a chair hon' and put it in the air son
Dog, whatever they call you, god, just listen
I spit a story backwards, it starts at the ending

The bullet goes back in the gun
The bullet hole's closin this chest of a ni**a
Now he back to square one
Screamin, "Shoot don't please"
I put my fifth back on my hip
It's like a VCR rewindin a hit
He put his hands back on his *****
My caravan doors open up
I jumped back in the van and closed it shut
Goin reverse, slowly prepared
My ni**a Jungle utters out somethin crazy like, "Go he there"
Sittin in back of this chair, we hittin the roach
The smoke goes back in the blunt, the blunt gets bigger in growth
Jungle unrolls it, put his weed back in the jar
The blunt turns back into a cigar
We listen to Stevie, it sounded like heavy metal fans
Spinnin records backwards of AC/DC
I give my ni**as dap, jump out the van back first
Back upstairs, took off the black shirt
I'm in the crib with the phone to my ear
Listen up so y'all can figure out the poem real clear
The voice on the phone was like, "Outside right we"
So with my mouth wide, holdin my heat
Bullets I had plenty to squeeze, plenty for ya
'Cause Jungle said, "Block your on enemies the"
Hung up the phone, then the phone rang
I'm laid in the bed thinkin 'bout this pretty young thing
Who left, she came back, her clothes just fell to the rug
She fell to my bed and gave me a hug
I told her, "No hell"
She talkin 'bout, "Me kiss"
Bobbed her head then spit the nut back in my di**
Started suckin with no hands, a whole lotta spit
Then got up and put her bra back on her tits
Got fully dressed and told me, "Stressed really I'm"
Picked up her Gucci bag and left her ni**a behind
Walkin through the door, she rang the bell twice
I vomited Vodka back in my glass with juice and ice
The clock went back from three, to two, to one
And that's about the time the story begun
That's when I first heard the voicemail on the cell
It said, "Son we found that ni**a we gotta kill"
[Message Beep]
Ay yo son, ay yo son, you hear me, you hear me?
Listen man, this dude right on the block, right now, man
I found him, right now, I see him right now!
Let's kill him)
[Message Beep]
"Yo, this Nas, leave it. Peace"

almost anything by Rakim but my favorite of all time is L.L Cool J THE BREAKTHROUGH...................................... .............................................Knuck leheads sweat and gossip all over town
Every time I drive by their just standin' around
Hundred-bottles in your pocket, forty-dog in your hand
Don't you know you're just a worker and your boss is my man?
L.L. this, L.L. that, soon as I walk in the place
I wanna take my gun and shoot you in your mutha****in' face
You're playin' me too close with the schemin' and games
I guess the beef and the bull**** is the price of fame
Movies, records, goin' on tour
Twenty-thousand people hip-hoppin' on the floor
Whole parties body-rockin', and everything's chill
Get back to New York, and the suckers act ill
See I fought with the devil, made a promise to God
I have experience in goin' all the way to the top
It's harder harder than hard
All the suckers are barred
You used to try to talk down now your ego is scarred
See the problem is you want what another man has
His car, his wife, or his razzamatazz
But that's weak, you gotta do work on your own
cuz when you're rich you got friends
but when you're poor you're alone
So get your own on your own, it'll strengthen your soul
Stop livin' off your parents like you're three years old
Instead of walkin' like you're limpim and talkin' yang about me
why don't you take your monkey-ass and get a college degree?
Or write a rhyme and ride a bike and try to live carefree
Hope my message reaches you before you're seventy-three
A old man, when people ask you what you did with your life
you'll say "I hated L.L. and I carried a big knife"
Every day is a chase, every day is a race
and every day you're being overpowered by my bass
Too much juice to be a deuce, I had to be a ace
It's like the fire's in my eyes and the gun's in my face
I'm stompin' stupid knuckleheads until they bleed
I'm the leader of the show, so it's up to me to lead
I'mma lead you away from drugs and petty crime
Lead you away from wack beats and rhyme
Lead you to that ticket line
so you can come in my show and watch the stars shine
Get busy, not dizzy, wanna teach the young
The last man who didn't listen ended up gettin' hung
Not that I killed him, it's just
He didn't wanna trust
the words of a master that's why you must
Take heed to the speech, it's gonna reach your ear
Don't try to say you can't hear cuz the words are clear
Throwin' flurries, punks scurry and I bury the rest
You better hurry up and rock a rhyme and give it your best
Cuz tonight's the night we gonna see the big fight
Twelve-gauge on the stage in case it don't go right
E-Love drives a tank, he's strong like a truck
If you're cryin' while you're dyin' we ain't givin' a ****
L.L. Cool J is on the microphone
tellin' all you punk ducks "Leave me the hell alone"
Cuz I'm rated X, born to snap necks
Straight up and down, no special effects
I'm the professor, the teacher, the hip-hop dean
If Russia bombed the U.S., they'd be scared to touch Queens
Cuz that's where I live, and this is what I give
Turnin' top-notch crews into fugitives
They run, they frightened, they hide from King Titan
like a sniper when he's shootin' or a viper when he's bitin'
Here I am, tellin' the truth
and I'm spreadin' the word to my fellow youth
It goes man-to-man and jam-to-jam
I got hip-hop, rock, and love song fans
All you petty MC's in the state of New York
Gettin' a thousand for a show but you still wanna squawk
Can't get a decent contract, your beats ain't workin'
Dogged-out Pumas plus you're manager's jerkin'
Your mic sounds weak, remember that skeezer
I'm badder than Napoleon, Hitler or Caesar
I'm a hitman, but I'm not for hire
Fly girl's desire, the man you admire
Not only on the stage, I rock in the park
and I'm a killer in the daytime, and worse after dark
So don't never ever mess with the king of the sound
L.L. Cool J, the baddest around.
