1. Trade Ramsey, he threw a nice TD to Thrash and showed a good deep arm but he pads the ball and made a mistake in the throw vs. Tory James. Time to send him to the Raiders.
2. Cut Carlos Rogers. He obviously will never be in NFL game shape and that long touchdown is just the tip of the iceberg. We should have moved up and drafted PacMan instead. If we do keep him we will have to re-label his jersey, "TheyHateMe" as Rogers will become synonymous in DC with "Toast".
3. Replace Daniels and Wynn at DE. Neither one is going to get 12 sacks this year and that is the benchmark to determine whether a DE can play.
4. Cut Taylor Jacobs because in two plus years he hasn't proven himself to be a major contributor at WR. At the same time, KEEP Darnerian McCants because he is 6'3, loves music and in THREE years hasn't proven he can be a major contributor at WR.
5. Put Broughton on the practice squad and keep Rock Cartwright. Yes, even though the preseason goal was to develop a short-yardage attack and convert more first downs and touchdowns, we should expose a 250 pound back who has good hands and is a coming special teamer to other teams in order to keep a 220 pound back who has good hands and is a decent special teamer.
6. Finally, let's cut Manuel White. It's obvious that if a 22 year old rookie can't join an NFL team, learn the nuances of a new position, and be in shape to contribute right away than he was clearly a waste of a draft choice......

Yeah, a recent one:
7. Joe Gibbs has clearly lost his touch because he cut Tim Hasselbeck. As many experts including Antonio Pierce can attest to, Tim has much more upside than Patrick Ramsey. Mark a few individuals' words: We will regret cutting Hasselbeck.
8. Fans should be encouraged to boo in the stadium. Booing expresses one's feelings, rather than holding them in, and is a perfectly acceptable way to represent the home team at the home stadium and to try to enhance home field advantage. We should boo most heartily in the preseason, when one or two bad plays are clearly an indicator of regular season performance.
Good stuff, bulldog.
3. Replace Daniels and Wynn at DE. Neither one is going to get 12 sacks this year and that is the benchmark to determine whether a DE can play.

Semi-related:
One thing I find hilarious is that our coaching staff is considered old and not capable of coming up with a "modern"-enough offense while there are teams like the Steelers who play close the vest and win consistently. Also, the age itself has nothing to do with it since Indy's OC is about 104 years old (or at least looks it).

10. The obvious reason that Patrick throw lots of interception is that he PATTED the ball. Go back and watch the film. One tap: cooley on the left flat. Two taps: right curl in middle to Thrash. Three taps: Skinpy post to Patten. Four taps: Deep go to Moss... there is a book on him on every defense in the league. In fact, you can listen to the opposing safety call out the tap count each time there is a pass play. He will NEVER amount to anything unless this is fixed.

My favorite chicken little complaints are "cut Taylor and Arrington!" because they have less then perfect attitudes. Can you imagine the laughing stock we would be if we cut two star players and destroyed ourselves in terms of salary cap? hehe

DESTINO, the simple fact is that if you go back and look, Phillip Daniels has been a very good DE in the NFL over the breath of his career. Before last season he was very durable as well, a key trait that Gibbs and Williams look for.
In his best seasons, he has posted 9 sacks and lead his team's line in tackles.
I would take those numbers in 2005 in a heartbeat. If a guy like that with a strong bull rush is healthy and working on the outside you WILL see guys peel off of Griffin and give him a better shot at penetrating up the middle.
The other thing to take into consideration is that Arrington is coming back to a team that now has better pass coverage linebackers in Washington and Marshall out there.
His role in rushing the passer and getting off the edge is likely to be enhanced in 2005.
The fact Arrington could post 11.5 sacks a couple of years ago when he was playing with his hand in the dirt as a DE (a position that both Greg Blache and HOFer Sam Huff have said was not to his advantage), gives enough optimism that in a system that more effectively creates and exploits matchups that #56 could be even more disruptive :)

The Redskins will be a better team than the have been since Norve Turner.
There is no question that we will be as strong on D as we were last year. losing Smoot and Perice will no effect us. It is all about schemes. Just like NE Patriots we have a ton of guys that can step right in without missing a beat. The Oline is back and healthy and they will protect any QB that is in there. It is all up to Ramsey, Moss, Patten, and Thrash. Rasmey like Harrington of Detroit they are under the gun. If Ramsey can produce i feel that we can win at least the wild card.If not we are an 8 and 8 team at best. So musgrave better turn Ramsey around. :dallasuck :gaintsuck :eaglesuck

All I said is that if you are looking to make the strongest team possible that is a position that you need to upgrade. He has been hurt and his 9 sacks came 4 years ago. A strong young pass rusher, even just for known passing downs would be huge for us IMO. I have never said the D is going to be bad, just that it could be better by strengthening areas in which we've been weak. Line pressure on the QB without a blitz is an area we have struggled in.
I don't like the excuse that our LB generate pressure because that isn't relevant. If both generate pressure you are better, and just because one unit is doing well doesn't mean the other should be as well.
What exactly is chicken little about that?

DESTINO, your post came after my original one so there was no effort to degrade your point of view in this thread that the Redskins would be better off if they had a Jason Taylor to add in as a pass rush specialist at DE. Just as we would be better off if we had Marcus Trufant as our #2 corner right now to start the season instead of a gimpy Walt Harris or an untested Carlos Rogers.
But EVERY team has those kinds of wishes/regrets. The cap means everyone has holes somewhere on their team.
The Eagles better hope that Westbrook and TO play all 16 games because their depth on offense is scary right now with guys going down to injury.
Back to the defense. I have seen defenses be quite successful when the best rushmen come from the linebacker or stand up end position. Most 3-4 defenses feature this type of attack whether it be Peter Boulware getting 15 sacks with the Ravens or LT with the Giants back in the 1980's.
What a defensive line has to do first and foremost is stop the run. If you don't get that job done, everything else on defense becomes suspect because you have to compensate by keeping your linebackers and safeties close to the line of scrimmage.
The fact the Skins have a defensive front seven that can stop the run consistently means we can use Sean Taylor in coverage and allow him to help double another team's best receivers.
It also means the team can move a guy like #56 around and have him rush from a number of different positions.
All in all, Williams and Blache have gotten the players they have asked for.
I am sure that Gibbs would like to have added an offensive player at #9 in the draft, however, we ended up for the second year in a row with a defensive player taken off the board first.
That is not an accident.
I imagine that the Redskins will in fact be looking for a DE in 2006 either in FA or the draft. I say this because Renaldo Wynn's contract numbers get up there after 2005 so we could see some movement to bring in younger talent. And the Warner/ Evans duo as the backups could prove to have been a nice one year story.
But overall, I see this defense being solid for 2005. If we can get 45 sacks and still defend the run this team should win 3 or 4 more games, given a merely decent offensive attack.

So, in essence, this thread is to call out those that aren't content with a team that went 6-10 last season. Fair enough.
No, no one was happy with 6-10 last year. Just some of us are more rational and can understand that championship teams aren't built overnight. Or in just a season.
We unerstand that Gibbs, his coaches, and the FO staff need more than a season to get this franchise turned around. This team hasn't been good for a long time, true, but Coach Gibbs has only been here a year. You can't hold him or his staff accountable for what happened before they got here. You just have to be patient. Something the irrational nattering nabobs refuse to grasp.
This thread isn't directed at the ones who are constructively critical. This thread is directed at the chicken littles who panic and over-react to everything. The ones that have nothing, I mean NOTHING good to ever say about this team. The ones who hate EVERYTHING the team does. They don't like the moves we make, the directions we go in, the hires we bring in, or who we decide to let go.
The ones that, unbelieveably, ARROGANTLY, think they know better than Gibbs and his coaches how to build a winner.
The ones that have been so negative, so down, and so hateful about the team, that they actually seem like they hope that the team/coaches/FO/certain players fail spectacularly cause they are much more worried about being able to say "I told you so" than the Redskins being a winner again.
These are the people that DESERVE to be ridiculed in a thread like this. :)

I can sense a palpable difference in the tone and chemistry of this year's team vis a vis the others we have seen since Norv was here. These players are playing together and fit well together. They support each other and there aren't any negative personality types on the team creating dissension. Where there were differences in the offseason in the Moss contract negotiations and the Arrington bonus, they are now resolved and these players can focus on winning football games.
Some folks have wanted to start a quarterbacks controversy, but I don't think the coaches or team are focused on that. Ramsey is a young quarterback learning how to play in an offensive system that depends on good decision-making. This isn't the Spurrier 'pitch and catch' offense and I think guys like Jansen and Samuels are thankful they aren't going to be blocking 5 on 6-8 defenders on each play :)
This team does not have overwhelming talent in any one area, except maybe in the offensive line and with Portis, but this team is solid. If Arrington comes back to form, the outside linebackers could be the best in the NFC.
The performance of Patrick Ramsey is what determines whether this team goes 7-9 or 10-6.
We didn't get much luck last year at qb with Brunel hurt and ineffective and Ramsey coming in to face some of the better defenses in the NFL as his baptism under Gibbs.
2005 I think is bound to be better. Call it the luck of the draw or the old saying that 'what goes around, comes around'.
The Redskins were snake-bitten in a number of close games last year. The bounce of the ball more often than not went against them.
You usually see the luck come back in the year afterward.
