View Full Version : What these cuts tell the fans as far as the 53 man roster is concerned

By position this is what each cut has told us

QB:No explaination necassiry, Spinner is going to the practice squad

RB: The only guy other then Portis betts rock and nemo to make it did so because he played in Europe and did a damn good job over there. That RB is gone come next cut but he may get a chance to earn a practice squad spot. We will carry four tailbacks.

H-back/TE: Sellers, Royal, Cooley are definitely on the team, White is going to be on the team as other then him only Kozlowski can play H-Back behind Cooley. Kozlowski and Johnson will fight it out for the final roster spot at this position.

WR: Moss, Patten, Thrash, Brown, all r on the roster no question. Jacobs will either make the roster or get put on IR. Dyson is going to have to have a monster game this week to give the Redskins a reason to keep him over Jacobs.

OT: Samuels, Jansen, Molinaro, r on the roster. Molinaro is turning into a sixth round steal considering the staff wants him to get some actual playing time this season. I see Wilson either making it with a solid outing this week, or going on IR. Molinaro can backup both RT and LT is something i believe i read the coaching staff is hopeing.

OG: Dockery, Thomas, Ray Brown, Friedman, are the guards. Alston will make the Practice Squad as the OT/OG.

C: Rabach, Ramyer, no one else is at this position.

DT: Salvea Griffin Noble and Boschetti have earned their spots, the fifth spot will be decided by Killings and Aki Jones. Aki may be the loser strictly cuz he can be on the PSQ.

DE: Nic Clemons is getting an extended look, which is bad news for Warner and Evan, it may spell the end to Warner after he feuded with the team earlier this offseason over is free agent status. If we keep four DE, I say Warner is the odd man out, we may keep five.

MLB: Marshall, McCune-clifton smith must have done something wrong badly in preseason, cuz this competition is completely over and done with with one week left. Khary Campell has a shot of making the team here as a ST ace.

OLB: Arrington, washington, holdman, clemons r on the roster with holdman also having the ability to play in the middle. Interesting race of the next week... Keasey and khayr campbell for the seventh LB spot.

CB: Springs, Rogers, Harris, Wilds, r on the roster at this point, Wilds has a full season to his credit and that means no more PSQ eligibility. rufus brown and jimoh r going to decide the fifth CB spot in the game this week.

S: Taylor, Clark, Bowen, Prioleau, can stoudmaire and shabazz make a good enough impresson to convince the coaches to keep five safetys?

K: Hall- Chandler, i cant stress this enough...if u want to steal someones job, u have to do better then them.

P:Groom would have been gone by now if he was the token competition for Tupa in camp. Groom will be the opening day starter here if Tupa doesnt heal up in time to match him punt for punt in baltimore.

Pleasant suprises of camp: Nemo, Keasey, Antonio Brown, Groom, Nic clemons.

My top race of the week, campbell v. barnes v. keasey for the seventh LB spot.

Which guys do u think have had there chances helped after this cut?

What feud did Warner have?

Its hard to say with Nic Clemmons he has been in camp for 3 years now and been flat out cut every year?????? He is a big guy and showed he had some wheels in the 4th quarter of the cinci game.

Warner and Evens proved their worth last year though I see neither getting cut.

Warner said he was an unrestricted free agent, the team said exclusive rights, and they settled at restricted free agent. That means they paid an extra 250K to the guy. His gonna have to show he deserves that extra 250K

Brown is considered a ST returner.... everyone makes the roster

Campbell makes the team easy.... not only on special teams but he is the #2 MLB. last week in came in to replace Marshall, and I believe he did against Cincy as well.

C: Rabach, Ramyer, no one else is at this position.

Friedman can play both guard and center.... Raymer maybe a late cut to keep someone else for special teams

I am not so sure we keep Stoutmire, he seems to be getting to many penalties for his experience.

Warner is only 265. The Skins prefer the size that Evans (280) and Clemons (278) offer at DE in the 4-3. With Clemons the issue is what he can contribute vs the pass.

Warner showed some speed off the edge in 2004 at DE but with the return of Arrington and Chris Clemons the team may have another way of getting those 'edge' sacks in 2005.

Warner to me is a spot player because of his lack of size. The concern I think is that if he is again forced into being a regular contributor that he will wear down. He is perhaps the one DL on the Skins that is not an asset vs the run.

The other factor is the guy is 29 years old.

If he were 23 you might think he had some upside but what you see is what you get.

One of our best O line performances last year was the Tampa game when Freidman and Walker started and we didn't see them start in one game after that

I like Friedman he is not as strong but can actually find somebody to block unlike Raymer who reminds me of my highschool center a big guy who would snap the ball and run to empty space looking for somebody to block

I do not see T. Jacobs getting cut as the coaches always rave about him. Does anyone know anything else about his toe? When is he projected to come back? The last I heard he was dat to day.

Speaking of 3rd down DE's where is Ladarius at these day? (cincy?) Williams could probablly turn this guy into a low budget KGB lol

Marvin Lewis didn't get any more out of the ex-Redskins he signed than Norv Turner got out of all those ex-Cowboys he brought in to Washington.

Lewis was bringing in fringe players from teams that finished out of the playoffs.

At least with Norv he was bringing in guys off of a good team.

Jackson was switched to LB for Cincy and then got injured and released 2003

From Bengalsinsider.com

Ladairis Jackson, a second-year player out of Oregon State, was signed by the team on October 23rd, and they began to try him out at linebacker. He was inactive for all five games while he was with the Bengals.

here's how I see it shaking out:

3 QB's - Ramsey, Brunell, Campbell
4 RB's - Portis, Betts, Rock, Nemo
4 TE/H-back's - Cooley, White, Royal, Sellers*
6 WR's - Moss, Patten, Thrash, Jacobs, Dyson, Brown
10 OL - Samuels, Jansen, Dockery, Thomas, Rabach, Raymer, Freidman, Molinaro, Brown, Wilson*

8 DL - Daniels, Wynn, Salvea, Griffin, Noble, Boschetti, Evans, either Warner or Nic Clemons
6 LB - Arrington, Marshall, Washington, Chris Clemons, McCune, Holdman**
4 CB's - Springs, Harris, Rogers, Wilds
5 S's - Taylor, Bowen, Priolou, Clark, Stoutmire**

3 - ST - Hall, Tupa, Albright
____
53

* We could release Wilson and keep a 5th TE
** We could keep a 7th LB and one less DB

for those wondering what is all of a sudden so great about Nic Clemons, I think it may be that he is finally had an off-season of being 100% healthy - he's younger and looks faster than Warner, so I think he has a good shot at beating out Warner.

23 Defensive players on your list and 27 Offensive. i think that is unlikely actually. I'm expacting it to be more even, like 24/26 or maybe even 25/25.

Most Interesting competition right now is Rock and Nemo. I really hope both make it.

Also, Robert Johnson has been a suprise at H-back. I hope he makes it over Koz.

that's actually the ratio we had last year. - Offense has more because of QB depth.

So, who are the eight on the practice squad?

You know Dahrran Deidrick will go to the ps again....or at least I think that is where they will try to put him.

We haven't really seen him in pre-season, so I don't know if he will even make the PS.
I could see Spinner QB, Harris WR, Combs RB, Jones DL, Keasey LB, Newberry LB, Warner OL, and one DB. - Might see a TE instead of Harris.

In case no one noticed, Raymer did not play, last week, and Friedman filled in nicely on the line. Raymer has not played guard! Friedman seems to have more upside, but we need the starting lineman to stay healthy

I just read that on another thread......I didn't know he was hurt. I know his agent very well and we talked on Friday. He didn't say anything about his injury.

That changes my thoughts somewhat. But I still don't see Combs coming back.

My Predictions:

3 QBs-Ramsey, Brunell, Campbell
5 WRs-Moss, Patten, Thrash, Jacobs, Brown
4 RBs- Portis, Betts, Rock, Broughton
9 OL- Thomas, Dockery, Samuels, Jansen, Rabach, Brown, Molinaro, Wilson, Raymer
4 TE/H-backs: Cooley, Sellers, White, Royal

8 DL- Griffin, Salavea, Noble, Boschetti, Daniels, Wynn, Evans, Warner
7 LB- Arrington, Washington, Marshall, Holdman, McCune, Clemons, Campbell
5 CB- Springs, Harris, Rogers, Wilds, Jimoh
4 S- Taylor, Prieoleau, Clark, Bowen

3 ST- Groom, Hall, Albright

8 PS- Keasey, Spinner, R. Johnson, Newberry, Rufus Brown, Alston, Diedrick, Killings

Comments:

WRs- I think Gibbs will be ok with Cooley as the big receiver. Dyson, while impressive at times, is inconsistent and will not make the team. I may be wrong, though, because he is a guy that has been to a Super Bowl but this is what I am predicting.

OL- Unfortunately, Raymer beats out Friedman. Friedman is much better than Raymer but Raymer wins because the coaching staff is in love with him for some reason (perhaps line calls?)

TE/H-backs: If someone were to get hurt, I think we would call up Rob Johnson to the active roster. Koz won't make it because he has not done anything impressive in the preseason and has been outshined by Sellers.

DL- Warner beats out Clemons because he is the only one of the DEs who can speed rush the passer. I like Evans so he is definitely going to be one of the backup DEs.

LB- Although Keasey has played well, I think he will make the roster next year. He is still somewhat raw and I think Williams should work on converting him into a MLB. I hope no one claims him. Campbell definitely gets a roster spot because he is a ST ace and our backup at MLB. Keasey may actually make it if Williams decides that now we have a healthy Lavar, we can let Clemons go.

CB- Jimoh is going to make it. He sucks at coverage but he is still a core STer. Wilds makes it as our dime CB. Rufus only gets PS because he has not played great this preseason. We have to keep 5 CBs because our starters (Springs and Harris) are injury prone.

S- Stoutmire gets cut and, if someone is out for the year, we will resign him during the season.

PS- not sure if killings is eligible. If not, that spot could go to a guy from another team that we have played this preseason.

some great predictions here......

* I gotta think we'll keep 5 CB's
* Wilson looks like a goner
* Raymer/ Freidman.........I'm not loving the options either way
both we sub-par last year in my book
* Clemmons/Warner....I'd lean to Clemmons
* Khary Campbell is a definite keeper
* Koz - it's looking bleak
* I like keeping Rock & Nemo
* Tupa/Mohr/Groom - I'd go with Groom
what am I missing with this?
is he inconsistent or just young?

Joncevensen

Maybe im wrong, but i was at the game and #59 was the backup MLB, and last i checked thats McCune

I am kind of leaning toward Mohr now, simply because he has worked with Albright in the past for five years. We may actually end up keeping him over Tupa and Groom. Danny Smith likes him as do many of the other coaches he has played for.

My guess:

My Predictions:

3 QBs-Ramsey, Brunell, Campbell
5 WRs-Moss, Patten, Thrash, Jacobs, Brown
4 RBs- Portis, Betts, Rock, Broughton
9 OL- Thomas, Dockery, Samuels, Jansen, Rabach, Brown, Molinaro, Friedman, Raymer
5 TE/H-backs: Cooley, Sellers, White, Royal, Robert Johnson

8 DL- Griffin, Salavea, Noble, Boschetti, Daniels, Wynn, Evans, Warner
6 LB- Arrington, Washington, Marshall, Holdman, McCune, Clemons
4 CB- Springs, Harris, Rogers, Wilds
5 S- Taylor, Prieoleau, Clark, Bowen, Stoutmire

3 ST- Groom, Hall, Albright

8 PS- Keasey, Spinner, Aki, Newberry, Rufus Brown, Alston, Diedrick, Killings

If any CB's get hurt, Rufus Brown gets called up. Robert Johnson has been mauling people at TE and should make the roster. Stoutmire played a great game against Pittsburgh and provides more benefit for the team weekly than Rufus Brown.

I think Jamin Elliot will make the practice squad... Youngest player on the team and has shown flashes of brilliance in training camp... He caught a pass over both ST and Springs one handed and brought it down, and he was fairly consistant... ALOT of upside on him.

I don't see Jacobs getting cut. So I think all of our remaining receivers will make it.

August-30th-2005, 06:23 PM
We need to keep extra db's and safeties on the team at the expense of other positions. Not sure which positions lose a spot, but there are too many tough passing teams (Oakland, St. Louis, KC, Philly) on the schedule to ignore having extra players at the cover positions.
