View Full Version : Lack of Pass Rush by Front Four should be a concern.....

For everyone that watched the game I am interested to hear your opinions too. It just seemed like there were way too many plays where are secondary had the WRs locked down for over five seconds, and they couldn't get to Orton at all. A team like the Bears you might be able to get away with it, but as the calibur of teams get better we will continually get burned. I don't mind using a LB or two to blitz the QB, but even then we had trouble getting to the Orton. We did seem to get to him on a few key plays, but overall I was rather dissapointed in the pass rush.

People had been saying the Bears' OL had improved. I don't know. We'll see as the year goes on. Our DL has been strong on stopping the run, which they did pretty damn well today.

I agree with NoCal. I was disappointed in the pass rush. We should of had more of a pass rush so we could force Orton into making more mistakes. Maybe it's just me, or the fact that I'm basing this off one game but the defense last year seemed more dominant than this years. I liked Antonio in the middle.

We have to blitz in order to get a pass rush.

It's no secret that we don't have any real pass rushing threats on our DL.

This is why people have been saying that we need to address a pass rushing DE forever now.

I agree. I thought Daniels would do a little better...or not! Next off-season, we clearly need to address the pass rush problem. Our run D, on the other hand, is fantastic.

I think this is one thing that has been forgotten in this victory so far. We weren't able to put consistant pressure on the QB, which part of the reason the offense showed up in the second half for the Bears. It is a concern.

phillip daniels just said that they were pretty much keeping 6 guys back to block while we were rushing only 3

I noticed many times a 3 man line - Williams said we would be doing this. - with Arrington and Holdman both in the game, this allows us to keep offenses guessing.

I did see a lot of 3 DL sets, but there were a number of 4 DL sets that produced very little pass rush. We need to think about how we change that.

The problem is, if you give the QB all day, he is going to find someone.

We were doing 3 man rushes on a of third downs, and I do understand that, but I did see plenty of times that an extra LB blitzed and Orton still went untouched.

Sad rush, no rush, even Lavar got stuffed mostly. We need to fix that.

Our line is THE best in the league against the run. It's not close. No line controlls the line of scrimmage like ours. Would you sacrifice that for more heat from an end? I wouldn't. I'd like a good dual purpose threat, but, at this point, there's more good than bad with our line.

Agaist the run, we have no problems at all. But the pass rush sucks. Unless we come with a blitz, you know we are not getting to the quarter back with a straght 4 man rush. Its very frustrating watching that.

Art I agree...We have a run stopping line and that's what Williams wants...Would it put all of us as fans at ease? Sure it would but Williams blitzes, that's what he does...

The Bears negated our pass rush also by throwing alot of short quick passes...

I think the philosophy is to force other teams to be one dimensional -- only pass as run will not work against us. We then pick and choose our spots to blitz.

I agree with Art. I would like to see more pressure, but if I have to pick, I will pick stopping the run for sure.

I agree. It seemed that for the few plays where Orton was successful, it was because we did not blitz any backs and our front four would not get close enough to sack him. If you give the QB more than 5 seconds, someone is going to get open. I feel that when we blitzed a lot of backs, the pass rush was successful, but otherwise it could use a lot of work. Dallas should be a better team, so hopefully our pass rush will improve so we can smack around Bledsoe. :D
