View Full Version : Stop the whining!

I'm disgusted that we have so many people complaining about a WIN.
Just a few things to ponder:
1) Brunell was a backup that came in off the bench to lead us from a come from behind victory;
2) Our defense will probably be ranked #1 this week;
3) We ran almost at will against one of the best defenses in the NFL;
4) Were it not for shoddy ref work, this would have been a blowout;
5) Our fans at the stadium finally showed up at critical times;
6) No major injuries.
I'm leaving out about a dozen more positive things.
This reminds me of Gibbs' first tenure when we were winning but people complained that we weren't dominating opponents....all we were doing was going to the playoffs.
Good teams win close games like these...bad teams lose them.

I disagree with 1) 3) and 4)
1) Brunell did not come off the bench to lead us to a come from behind victory, he came off the bench when the score was 0-0, lead us to a 6 point lead then ST gave up the ball near the red zone which turned into a 1 point lead and brunell got back the lead and then held it.
3) We had one big break out run, many good gains, but I think it was hardly a run at will type of thing. That makes me think of times when Gibbs would just counter trey 8 hundred times in a row cause they couldnt stop it. They could stop the run, we ran very well against them, but I hardly call it at will.
4) Even without the bad calls I think the score would have just been 9-0, while that is a shut out it wouldnt have been a blow out.

It was a come from behind victory, period.
Read what the Chicago players said about their inability to stop the run.
The Ramsey non-call cost us points.
Time to quit nit-picking, and be good fans. Not every throw is going to be a completion, not every run is going to get a first down. In the NFL, you're measured by your win and loss record.
We're 1-0

we did o.k.
2) Our defense will probably be ranked #1 this week;
Were already number 2 behind Buffalo with Vick/Owens to play so were a lock for 2.

True, but sounds like whining also

bro Im the biggest homer here.
it was not an off the bench come from behind victory, he positioned us for all our points. ST muffed they scored, he put us back up then ran out the clock. Thats not come from behind, its called smash mouth football.
Ramseys non-call probably cost us 3 points thats it, it was 3rd and 16 and that would have made it 4th and 1 and we would have taken 3 at that point(I could be wrong about the roughing the passer, but I think its only a 15yrder not auto first).
As for what the chicago players say about the run, well if we were able to run on them at will we would have had rushing TD's. thats all I have to say about that, regardless of what some dejected losers have to say about the game.

One bad call was worth 7pts, would'a been 16-0

We were down 7-6, right? Then we scored...coming from behind, right? That's a come from behind victory.
How do you know PR's non call would be only 3 points? We were looking pretty good at the time.
Chicago's D are not the Little Sisters of the Poor. They are designed to stop the run. We almost had 200 yards on them.

I taped the game and watched it when I came home, Im not so sure the cooley push off was a bad call. Its really hard to see on the replay, it appears at first that the bear guy was all over him but then I keep looking at it and it looks like the bear just has his out and cooley charges him then sizes some distance. Granted alot of recievers in the league will be alowed to do it, but its technically illeagal. So Im still having trouble saying that was a bad call. I watched it after all the other games, so I was pretty drunk and still suffering from sun exposure :silly:
so maybe after Ive been able heal from the sun and the alcohol I can see the bad call.

"We were down 7-6, right? Then we scored...coming from behind, right? That's a come from behind victory."
This appears to be a phillosophical difference between me and you. Where you find a team gets the ball first and scores, and the other team scores 80 points and stops the other team from scoring again as a come from behind victory I do not. Or even to use the game we are talking about as an example. Brunell positions 6 points, then they come and score 7, then brunell positions another 3 for the win. Thats not come from behind. Philosophically for me a come from behind victory must have the opponent atleast having two consecutive scoring drives otherwise its just possession football. By your definition all football games are come from behind victories if the loser scores first.
"How do you know PR's non call would be only 3 points? We were looking pretty good at the time."
Gibbs would rather go 9 to 0, than risk a turnover in the redzone to a team thats not gonna score on you anyways.
"Chicago's D are not the Little Sisters of the Poor. They are designed to stop the run. We almost had 200 yards on them."
I agree, but just cause we gained on them doesnt me we ran at will. We had to soften with air to get the run working as well as it did. We had 164 yards, with nearly a quarter of which came from one single run. I said we had good gains against them, all I said was to claim you ran at will on them implies they could not stop your ground which should convert into rushing TD's. Perhaps my ideal of run at will is too steep, but I think we just ran hard on them.

It was a desevered win, aside from the turnovers which irked me no end. Four fumbles in one game! Ramsey two, Brown one, and Portis one. Plus an interception. The reffing bugs me. How do you have pass interference when you are beyond five yards and they aren't allowed to touch you? Still, a sigh of relief win that you can feel good about because we held together and fought and never gave in. Despite our own goofs and those thrust upon us.

The way people are reacting, I hate to see this place after we lose. It's a victory, a notch in the W column...enjoy it.

I think you make some good points.
I'd definitely agree about the running game. We rammed it down the Bears' collective throats in the 4th quarter when we needed to kill the clock. They KNEW we were going to run and we did....successfully!
Being able to run the ball doesn't mean you have to get a lot of LONG runs...it's consistently getting positive yardage. Portis rushed for 120, Betts rushed for 40...that's pretty good against a D that might be in the top 10.
Anyway, I'm happy about the win, but scared about our inability to score in the redzone. We made some big plays to get in position to score a few times and go either FGs or a fumble. If we can straighten that out, we'll be fine.

Even without the long run, our running game did well, it was working as good as the actual results of the memory you have. You can't really leave it out the big run anyway.
4) Even without the bad calls I think the score would have just been 9-0, while that is a shut out it wouldnt have been a blow out.
16-7 without the bad calls, maybe 12-7. Of course, if Ramsey's not hurt (assuming that the bad call was the OPI on Cooley), we may have turned 1 or 2 of those fgs into TDs, so maybe 20-7 or 24-7.
