It is so great to have Ladell healthy. Keeping Portis around 20 carries max allows him to be his homerun hitting self on every carry. Then we wear them down with Ladell, who by the way can hit a few home runs himself. 21 and 12 is perfect distribution. I'm not giving up on A. Brown, but Ladell can be a great returner as well if he doesnt pan out. You have to love the 1,2 punch of Portis and Betts.

Agreed. I commented last season that we should've lightened Portis' load by using Betts more.
It wouldn't surprise me if Brown is inactive next week, Thrash and Betts do the return work and Jacobs is in as the 3rd WR.

Dung and Betts were an ok combination; they actually did well while both were healthy. Portis and Betts are light years better. While both Dung and Portis could hit the home-run, Portis can also run with power.

Why couldn't portis outrun the defenders on his long run from the one? I was htinking he could break it, but then the defenders closed in. Apparently he is more quick then fast, all is good though.

He did get dinged earlier in the game, so maybe he wasn't 100% on his big run. Definitely not the same speed he had when he broke his TD run against Tampa last year.

When you look at that play, they had the angle and Clinton was more worried about securing the ball then getting the TD. I mean they were on the 1 yard line, he did his job.

I was happy with the rushing attack in the second half. At first the Bears had us pretty much locked up. But we stuck with our plan and took the pressure off the QB issue (Brunell hasnt had a big game for a longtime btw).
Just avoid injuries. We need Taylor Jacobs and John Hall to try have a better shot at Dallas. Lavar being more of a threat would be nice too.

My main memory of Portis is not that he breaks too many real long runs (he will break some 60+ yarders sometimes) but he breaks off many 25-50 yarders. He is great at setting up guys to take bad angles. I do think that if such an opportunity came up in quarter 1, he might have taken that one to the house.

we need these 2 rbs to get the ball 37 times in a ball game. 20-25 portis 10-15 betts

I think in the future this is what a lot of teams are going to start doing. Have there starting Runningback get the majority of the carries 16-20 and the backup rb get 8-10. This will keep the starter fresh and the backup semi satisfied..and personally i really like this. I dont care if Clinton gets 1500 yds...as long as he was healthy throughout them all. I predict Betts will get 500+ yds rushing this year. And Clinton will get around 1600yds.

We have a great tandem in Portis and Betts, throw in Cartwright and a developing Rookie in Nemo; I would be hard pressed to think of a better core of backs.

He said in a post game conference that he stumbled a bit, which slowed him up.

yeah I noticed the stumble myself.....that is why he wasn't able to break it fully.....the defenders also had great angles on him....with a tandem of Betts and Portis we are well set at RB for awhile....

I loved Dung. I remember before he hurt his ankle he averaged over 5.4 yards a carry for a few weeks.
He was fragile and benefited from a full back in front of him, but SOS wanted to throw.
