View Full Version : Burn Brunell/Gibbs in Effigy Threads (MERGED!)

I saw some of the Eagles game yesterday day, and as much as I dislike them, I must say that they put on a football clinic. One thing I like about Andy Reid is that 1) He doesn't take crap from punks and cry babies like T.O., and 2) He goes for the kill, not just the win. The Eagles were up by 21 and they kept scoring. Even if the offense makes a mistake and turns the ball over, Andy Reid has enough confidence in his defense to believe that they will stop the opponent. Why in the world is Gibbs satisfied with 2 or 3 point leads when we have one of the best defenses in the league. He consistently gives the opposing team an opportunity to win by letting them hang in the game. It is extremely frustrating to see the Redskins up by 3 points or a touchdown, only to see them lose on a last second score by the opposing team. I want Gibbs to take it to Dallas tonight! I want him to not just win but completely obliterate those bums. I want the Skins to demoralize the cowboys to the point where they come to FedEx Field later this season shaking in their cowgirl boots. BUT, it's not happening, so I'll stop my complaining now.

Thats a very good point. One that I;ve made in a couple times in the past few days. We lost to Dallas last year because we didn't put them away, and we almost let the Bears come back on us. If we want to be successful this season, we need to put teams away, not just squeek out a victory. We need to do that tonight especially.

We took a shot at the endzone, it just didn't work—I wouldn't necessairly start barking about the play calls being too conservative.

Fred Jones
September-19th-2005, 09:46 PM
The play calls were conservative in the first half. The offense also didn't execute which didn't allow Gibbs to open it up.

nneece
September-19th-2005, 09:50 PM
Meet this season, same as last season. Hey, Gibbs should try to add something new to the playbook, the forward pass. Dallas just scored. We are probably done. 2 MAJOR problems: the offensive playcalling is way too conservative and Brunell can not deliver a deep ball. We will not win games with this guys. Something has to give.

Gichin13
September-19th-2005, 09:51 PM
will call a halfback option or a fleaflicker for a touchdown every single time he coaches against the skins. You think we would learn at some point.

Bad call by Gibbs, Brunnel is not the answer and it looks like another losing season and a new coach next year... possibly this year.

fuji869

With our recent history vs the Cowboys and our anemic offense that play just did it. This team just does not believe that they can beat Dallas!

Once again, Gibbs is being outcoached. And do we EVER need an offensive coordinator!! Get rid of Breaux and Burns, please!@ This is 2005, not the 80s. This is embarrassing. Downright pitiful.

Ramsey gets benched because he makes too many bad decisions - what Brunell is doing is right?

It's not the play calls its the QB. He has no idea how to get it to the recievers.

all this talk about how intense gibbs was this week and blah blah and we come out with this junk , i love gibbs and what hes done for the redskins but he doesnt have it anymore and that doesnt make him a bad person or a loser at all , just past his time he should just step down

footballhenry

Dont try to make sense of it. The fact that Gibbs is so loyal to Brunell even at the expense of the team just irates me even more. Brunell doesn't have the arm.

nothing. I hate that peice of crap.

TankRizzo
September-19th-2005, 09:56 PM
The offense is downright disgusting. There is zero rhythmn and Brunell's arm is better than last year....but it still SUCKS. That one deep pass earlier the receiver turned around, was backpeddling and STILL had to slow down.

But, he's the golden boy, we'll get to hear how courageous he played tomorrow and how great the decisions were that he made on the field :puke:

I agree with you 100%!! I will gladly eat crow, but I see us getting shutout tonight, honestly. When ever I watch other teams in the NFL they look so much more polished then us, offesively. This is just a horrible, horrible offense. I was not going to drink tonight but dam this team drives me to drink!! I guess I will be calling into work "sick" again today, since I did today for no reason.

...Brunell, you're a phony.

...Ramsey, you look like a scared little girl when you're under center; so, no, I don't want to see you starting again.

...Jason Campbell, take notes. Your time is coming soon and you better not look like dumb and dumber in front of you or I'm going to blow a fvcking gasket!

...Offensive line, you don't give a damn when the BIG F'N GAME COUNTS!

...I apologize to Clinton Portis for having to put up with others whose hearts won't be in the game enough to open holes for you

...Joe Gibbs, I'm sorry but this game has passed you by

....Williams, get the f'ck out while you can.....Lewis was smart enough to get out.

....every goddamn Redskins player playing the game tonight....NONE OF YOU HAVE A HEART! THIS IS THE FVCKING COWBOYS IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED! THANKS FOR WASTING MY NIGHT MORONS!

We have no QB but please these sets are waaay to conservative. Every series we are working with 2 downs. A bunch formation on 2 down and 3 thats when you got the defense were you want them. I am furious over these formations and how they are used every series. This isnt 82.

Does anyone really think it matters where Brunell or Ramsey is the starting QB? This is an atrocious offensive system. Gibbs needs to get a real offensive coordinator in here to run the offense.

Does that constitute an idea worthy of a seperate thread?

No. It doesn't.

September-19th-2005, 10:05 PM
And if you disagree, just check his record since he came back. He's LOSING.

Under normal circumstances I would say I can't wait for him to get the hell out of town but it won't matter with the worst owner in sports calling the shots. He'll just hire an equally big loser.

But Joe Gibbs CANNOT COACH FOOTBALL. He was once great but now he sucks. Just like Joe Paterno and Gary Williams and Jesus and all the others who were once kings of the mountain and do NOTHING now.

Sometimes you have to let go of antiquated notions. Just like Jerry Rice can't play anymore and Germany sucks, crap changes. Joe Gibbs is one of the worst coaches in the NFL. He can't devise a gameplan to open ONE freaking hole for Portis to run through.

Hey, thanks for the 3 Lombardi trophies but pops, you suck now.

Is it just me or does this season now feel like the start of last year all over again? Our "O" was terrible in the first half of this game. It was every bit as bad and statistically worse then the Bear game. 62 yards people. Let me say that again, 62 yards.

Now it is 10-0 and does anyone really think MB is going to lead us to victory?
We are wasting what may be one of the best Defensive units this franchise has ever had. This is sickening. For all those MB fans who must be suffering from Skinesia. How do you feel now?

I have NO confidence what so ever that MB can win this game for us. I do however think that Ramsey would have a chance to win this game. I am actually sitting here praying that Gibbs will yank MB. We all know that isn't going to happen. So my friends here  is too yet another crappy season.

I feel like this is the same game I've watched for the past 3 years. Our quarterbacks coaching staff and front office can be summed up with one easy distinction Junior Varsity. All I can say is Denver is going to laugh all the way to the bank with our top 5 pick and the 2 others we gave up last year.
Unless Campbell turns out to be the savior that move might have set us back another 5 years especially if we wind up with a pick that could have landed Matt Linehart or Vince Young.

skinzplay
September-19th-2005, 10:15 PM
as kornheiser said, welcome to last year. this is the most predictable, non-sensical offensive scheme i've ever seen. we're the only team in the league without an offensive touchdown - not the bears, not the lions, not even the lowly 49ers or cardinals. pitiful, just pitiful.

gibbs was great in the past, but greatness in the past only gets you memories. doesn't do a da@* thing for us right now. gibbs either needs to walk, or turn over playcalling to someone other than jack burns. this is beyond ridiculous.

The line isn't opening holes for Portis, Brunell is underthrowing everything, and when he does get a completion it's either a 2-4 yarder to the flats or across the middle. AND...there's no pressure on Bledsoe! What the hell is going on???? I'm sooo frustrated and confused.

We have yet to turn the corner on offense from last year. Actually, that's not quite true. I felt Ramsey was making some progress with the offense (remember when we beat the Vikings). Now we are back to square 1 with Brunell. No one can defend this. The combo of Gibbs conservative play calling and Brunell's lack of an arm = 0 offense.

September-19th-2005, 10:37 PM
Our vaunted O-line gave up 4 sacks already, the awesome D we have has allowed Bledsoe to do anything he wanted, Betts fumbled once, Gibbs has been predictable in play calling, we need a real OC and Brunell has been ineffective getting the ball to anyone and intercepted once. Fire Breaux and Burns, cut Brunell, trade for Ramsey for Rosenfels and sign Spinner if possible then let Campbell start and get some reps.

Truant
September-19th-2005, 10:39 PM
Just taking it from a better team. Gibbs has marginalized the team to beat below average teams and perhaps compete with teams over that level.

This is worse than last year. Why? Because it shows nothing learned from the unsightly play of last year. Laughing stock...

I can honestly say I can stand to watch this. As loyal a fan as I have been since 1980 I can't watch this trash. Gibbs has blown it, we had a solid chance with Ramsey but Gibbs tried to save face. his 1st big move when he came back was a bust and he doesn't want to face it so he keeps hoping Brunnell will pan out. I think I would agree with you. I mean brunell is aweful, but maybe ramsey is too. What is certain is that gibbs has no idea how to win football games in todays NFL. He's gone 0-2 with QB decisions so far this year and it has only been two games.

September-19th-2005, 10:53 PM
This is enough. I've been a Skins fan my whole life and enjoyed the glory years of Gibbs' first reign in Washington, but he has lost it. The NFL has progressed past him. The offense is utterly inept. It does not matter who the quarterback is, Brunell or Ramsey or even Campbell are going to look bad in this offense.

If I see one more 4 yard screen pass on 3rd and 9, I'm going to puke. Let's air the ball out! Throw the ball past the first down marker. And don't even think of giving Dallas' D credit, any defense would look great against the Skins' pathetic offense.

This is ridiculous. The Skins D deserves much better than this. With a D as awesome as ours is, we should be Super Bowl contenders, not struggling for last place in our division. If our offense was, at the very least, mediocore, we'd be in the playoffs easily. The stats speak for themselves. We haven't scored a TD in seven quarters, absolutely pathetic. I don't even think the Skins have been on Dallas' side of the field the whole game.

Give it up, Gibbs, you are done. You were great once, but now you're terrible. You're ruining Gregg Williams' hard work with your ineptitude. Do all Skins fans a favor and retire. Let someone who knows how to handle an offense run the team.

Any other fans sick of the terrible offense? We, as loyal fans, shouldn't take this horrible display sitting down and not doing anything about it. We are fans of the greatest franchise in the NFL, we deserve better.

Well gang, I've been sold again. Thought this year would finally be the year we start to show some signs of returning to decency. It looks like that won't happen for what, the 13th out of 14 years now. I love the Skins and love Gibbs, but the 2005 version doesn't seem to be a good marriage. Joe needs a QB who can win now, and we just don't have it. Campbell may be the future, but Joe doesn't have that kind of time. The team is desparate, and that doesn't bode well for the 2005 campaign.

I will never understand how you can't just score some points. It's not that hard, 31 out of 32 other teams do it... year in and year out. Something is rotten at the core here and it's going to take a few seasons to clear it out...

I'm bummed, dismayed, and flat out frustrated to peices. But, the writing is on the wall. The same signs we are all too familier with are here again. \

It's going to be another long, fruitless season.

benches or cuts someone after a win, what the hell is going to happen after this mess? Trust me I did not post one thing about the benching last week, but I like Ramsey, my input on who starts and sits in NOT my decision. But one has to wonder what is going to happen here! Our ST are no "safe" meaning they will NEVER return one for a TD and our offense in "safe" meaning do not have ANY turn overs, but what about tonight, if I was Ramsey and knew the plays we were going to run in the Preseason I would have asked for a trade then!!! I will ALWAYS defer to Mr. Gibbs but even he has to see that, hey we have a RD we will only run the ball instead of being explosive, lets be safe. I know he will come back with something better, if not I am going to become a Bengals fan, just kidding.

I for one have finally had it with the ineptitude of our offense. I am going to Boycott everything to do with the Redksins until they make some significant changes. Who will join me?

For one, could P.R. have done any worse tonight?

Why are we still calling pansy plays? Take some freakin chances already.

After tonight y'all won't see me around until the Skins earn some of my respect back. I've stuck with them for so, soo long. But this has tested my patience. Football is supposed to be entertaining and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed watching this team play.

With all do respect - I need to take a break from the skins before it kills me..

NEVER MIND - Deep pass for Touchdown just now - lets go skins

Well I guess Snyder knew what he was doing when he put those seats behind the pillars. They might end up being the best seats in the house. Then you don't have to watch this crap.

I'd actually say Baltimore has a worse offense than us.

Consider this, against Tennessee Willy Parker ran for over 140 yards and the Steelers had over 200 rushing yards total.

Jamal Lewis ran for 9 yards against those same Titans, and the Ravens altogether had 14 rushing yards.

Those are not typos: 9 yards for Jamal, 14 for the whole team.

:( i am just about ready to give up! looks like another shabby season in the making! i can't even tell that joe gibbs is the coach, we have a great defense! do we even have an offense! what is the problem? it just tears me up inside to watch the skins play lousy offense!

OH MY GOD! WE JUST SCORED A TOUCH DOWN!

Brunell still sucks. Hes played horrible all game..throwing in the flats, making bad decisions, the pick, etc.

Gibbs and company had the entire offseason to figure out how to fix the offense. Apparently they did not figure this out (the 1 score is nice, but... let's be realistic). Do you think they will figure this out with 1 bye week? I don't think so. Again, the conservative playcalling combined with Brunell's questionable arm do not mix. Oil and water.
