The signs that point to the Eagles signing Westbrook are as follows;

In Reid's tenure the Eagles have been 1 of the top teams to resign their young talents to 2nd and 3rd contracts i.e. McNabb, Dawkins, Darwin Walker, Lito Sheppard, Seldon Brown, Greg Lewis, Sam Rayburn, Artis Hicks, Tra Thomas just to name a few. These siginings tend to take place in the late October to early November time frame i.e. last year at this time we extended Sheppard, Brown, Rayburn and Lewis.

Both sides (Westbrook and the Eagles) have said they are working towards an agreement. In Philly however negotiations take a bit longer than in Washington because we don't want to just sign a guy just for the sake of signing him. This is why the Eagles are always on top of the cap and why they are now being emulated by many upstart teams around the NFL, i.e. the Cardinals and the 49'ers.

You see we in Philly don't just throw money at a problem, we look for all the options in any situation so we don't bargain our future for the present. We also don't tend to let our young studs just walk away unlike the Skins (Pierce, Smoot, T. Green, and it seems L.A.) Some may leave, but they always come back better for having knowledge that the grass isn't always greener.

The Redskins had AP and Smoot leave because the Skins had no salary cap...

Gibbs is willing to pay for talent, if he can afford it.

He's strapped now because of excesses in earlier times, but with time, the Skins won't sit on salary cap. They know that players who perform should get paid. Danny doesn't covet cash deemed for players...that's where he and Laurie differ...and it will catch up with the Eagles...well, in fact, it already has. Their depth isn't great at any position.

I know that Irvin has been a huge supporter of T.O. throught the season and I think it was a nod to Irvin. I've never been much of a Cowboys hater, so it doesn't bother me as much as maybe some other Eagles fans. At this point T.O. may be just a hired gun, kind of an outlaw if you will.
