I went to the Walmart today to get my tire filled up and it just so happens that Tommie Harris senior works in their automotive deptartment.

He was all excited that the Bears just whooped up on the Vikings.

He also rattled off all of Tommie's stats to me while I waited. His height, weight, bench press, 40 time.

I was like, yeah, I liked Tommie a lot in last years draft. I told him I was glad to see him do well in the NFL.

I got a call on my cell then and in the meantime he finished up with my tire.
That was pretty much it.

That's the closest I've ever come to meeting an NFL player, so it was pretty exciting for me.

You would think Tommy would retire his dad, or maybe he did and thats his idea of keeping busy.

You know me and my partner were saying the same thing. I didn't want to pry into the man's personal affairs, though. He just seemed happy go lucky and was really friendly. It was a preacher that walked by that knew him and actually pointed out that he was Tommie sr.

remembering draft day 2004, I think the family is pretty close. A mechanic at wal-mart, it prolly is just a hobby for him. If they are that family friendly, he probably just likes to do it.

Nice encounter though.

I used to live down in Killeen and from what I understand his dad's retired from the Army. I've seen and briefly chatted with him a couple of times myself.

I think he's just hanging around there now to keep himself busy. Plus the impression I get from him is that he wants to support himself and doesn't want to rely on his son's earnings.

Yeah, he seemed happy to be there at work. Really a nice guy who was absolutely proud of his son. I guess I'm an official Tommie Harris fan now.

Congrats. I was in Nate Clements' fathers company. He is part of a Gospel choir that visited my Dad's church in the summer. I was doing the video. Also I was eating at a resturant in Rock Hill SC when Pittsburgh safety Chris Hope walks in. He knows my Aunt so he stopped and actually sat at the table with us.
