ES Vets - Riddle Me This:

Has fan reaction always been this way on this site after a loss?

I was around all of last season, and we had very little reason to be optimistic - but this year is a whole different deal - yet there are those clamoring for benchings, trades, and coach-firings every time we lose.

Was it like this back in '01, '02' 03?

In 2002 there was some optimism for the future, it seemed so close except for the o-line

2003, well after the first Dallas game, we all knew we needed some change

The thing was there was actually intelligent discourse back then, now we have idiots

(And for the record, due to a database error it says I registered in 2004, when in fact I have been here since May 2002)

This actually might be the furthest we've gone into a season in recent times where we've had hope of making the playoffs. In '01 everyone was happy that we climbed back with a 5-game win streak. In '02 Philly let us know who was boss early on in Week 2 with a 37-7 MNF whuppin.

Probably the loss in '03 that compares to this one is when we were 3-2 after a tough loss at Philly and the Bucs came into FedEx and owned us in the second half. I remember the site being quite livid, and things got worse from there!!

Well, things were a little rough at times in the past. The team was still in the playoff hunt 2/3 of the way into the 2001 season under Marty and then those final games happened. Still, things remained relatively calm considering. The firing of Marty and hiring of S.S. created some animated discussions but again, not so bad. However, as time has gone on, there have been some downright nasty days here on the board. It started out small but as the board has grown so has the volume of the stated threads. Obviously. Part and parcel of the deal but it would be nice to have a little less vehemence in these types of threads and the posts within.

Given the performance or lack thereof yesterday, it's not surprising to expect & see the (over) reaction of the fans. But we've seen this type of team implosion before and it's getting very, very tiresome to experience it yet again. It's 1 of 16 andthe goal is the playoffs so lets see just who is right the faithful or the over reacting fans.

There have always been those who jump up and down on the couch and say the season is over. But, not to the extent we have here now. When SS came on board.....and he went to Japan and ran over the 49ers......we thought that was what was to come. Ha.

We have had melt down in the past.....but with over 40,000 people, it is obvious there will be some who feel the need to spout "we suck" "the season is over" "they are bums" over and over until they get a response.

I find it really sad there are so many like that however....or maybe they really is not so many....the few are just so loud and repetitious. I often also wonder if they are like this in life.......so negative.........or if the fact they are unknown to others...they can be obnoxious.

I love this place........and have been here for a long time. But it is getting more and more difficult to have a good ole football talk about a win or a loss.

Im not a very deep thinker, but I really think yesterday was not a very good statement about this team. I can overlook yesterdays debacle as a reality check
to players that have been on a pretty good high since Dallas, now its back to business fellas.

Reaction around here after a bad loss is as predictable as the sun rising in the east.

There will be numerous “player callout” threads where so-and-so needs to be cut and so-and-so should be benched. Some of these have hints of merit, most don’t.

There will also be numerous “I’m a true fan even after a loss, how about you?” threads where everyone must remind each other that they are in fact fans of the team and aren’t jumping off the bandwagon.

There will be posts from fans of other teams that fall into two categories: the “nice game, good luck” threads and the classless troll threads.

A quick glance at the topics on the front page tells me nothing has changed. Don’t get me wrong, I like a certain degree of predictability in my life so before I get left out of all of these threads let me say; we looked bad on both sides of the ball and on special teams, we turned the ball over too many time to win on the road, I am a true fan always will be and the Giant trolls suck (but not as much as Cowboy trolls). We had a bad game, let's move on. That about covers it. :2cents:

Its always like this. I find my visits to the site decrease a lot in the few days after a loss. Cut this guy, cut that guy, we suck.. blah blah. Its always the same.

There was always negativity on this board, say, after a loss, or the team makes a move someone didn't like.

But not at the rate and the sheer VENOM you see today. Folks who are just nasty and for some reason, take the setbacks on a VERY personal level.

I find myself posting more after a loss than a win now, just to try an help counter-balance the negativity after a loss.

I don't have a problem with folks being unhappy about a loss, of course. I wasn't happy either. :) Or being critical in a constructive way. I have a problem with the particularly vindictive ones, hurling personal insults at folks involved with the team, calling for trades, releases, firings.

That's the kind of thing, I feel, we don't need here.

Welcome to the ups and downs of a skins fan, or better yet, an NFL fan. The NFL is a funny beast, because one week a team can be on their way to the Super Bowl (in the eyes of the media and fans), and the very next week a team can be headed to top 5 draft pick status. That is just how things seem to go in the NFL (regardless if you are a redskins fan). I think we as fans need to realize that just because we beat up on the hapless 49ers, we need to hold off on ordering our Super Bowl tickets. And in the same manner, just because we get embarassed by a division opponent, we don't need to call an end to our season (7 games into it for that matter).

It's annoying seeing so many posts calling for benching players, cutting players, etc. With a loss like we had yesterday, there is no one guy that can be blamed, benched, or cut. That was an overall poor performance by the entire team. But we have to have an even temperament and realize that our season is not over. I think we have a HUGE game coming up Sunday night. If you look at both the Eagles and Redskisn you find two teams that didn't play well yesterday and are coming to a crossroad in their season. We just have to hope that we can fill FedEx Field with more skins fans than eagles fans (unlike past years) and show our support.

Hog Fever has it about right.

Gfunk 703, the amazing thing is at the end of the season, this loss counts no more or less than the close loss in denver (unless we end up tied). It's one loss. We weren't undefeated going in so...we just have to hope the skins right the ship. It's a long season.

So do I, but by this point in the year, our offense had accomplished nothing like this year (in fact, they never did all year). And because of this, I kind of write off last year.
