Seems like Landover would be a good place to have a Super Bowl. Haven't heard about it being considered though. Thoughts?

DC would be an awful place for a Super Bowl
Weather would suck
They should only hold Super Bowls in the south (i.e LA, Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, if they ever re-build, New Orleans), anything north of those cities would suck

Yeah Detroit is an awful choice for a Super Bowl
If I am dishing out cash I want to go to a cool city for a Super Bowl
That is warm
And has lots of hot ladies
I would actually be pretty pissed if the Skins made the SuperBowl and it was in DC, it takes away from the spectacle of the game

Football should be played in the weather. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. But I guess that's a whole different issue. 9 out of 10 times it would be clear and 40 degrees in Landover for the Super Bowl... come on, those aren't horrible conditions.

I know there is some type of rule about what the temp. can be for an outside super bowl. Something like the Jan average low needs to be at least 50. Don't know what DC's like tempature wise in January but I am guessing it is lower than that.
Anything is better than what I get here in Montana. Last January we had a week were the highs were between -8 and -20. Burr

Snyder could pay for the energy it would take to keep an outdoor stadium warm

What most people don't realize is that the Superbowl isn't about football. Yes, the league championship is played, but it's secondary to the overpriced ticket sales, merchandising, half time show, and the interviews of a players cousins milk man all day long.
I've always thought that the Superbowl should rotate around the league giving every stadium a chance to host it. The game is played out in the weather for the most part, but a large number of people in attendance aren't hard core enough, or even true football fans to sit in anything but comfort...............

Um, the biggest issue is the weather. Not for game time but for getting too and from the Super Bowl. I am surprised that they even held it in Detroit considering the last time they did that there was a blizzard.
Couple that with the high price of tickets and the general "corporate" nature of it, there is no way there will be a Super Bowl here unless we build a dome. I will say that if Snyder bought the team prior to the stadium being built, we WOULD have a retractable roof.

probably true about the roof. but i'm glad we don't. i hate outdoor sports being played indoors. in argument for the super bowl in landover.... there would be more tickets available than any other stadium.

It has been considered, and its been pushed for, but it would require a roof. Snyder supposedly has research going into developing a temporary roof for it so I'm sure eventually it will happen, but not any time soon.

wow, i said earlier in the thread, sarcastically, that snyder would buy the energy we needed to keep the stadium at room temperature. apparently, it can happen. snyder has no limits i guess.

Contrary to whats being said, the reason is because the leauge doesn't want the weather to affect the game in any way. They do not want the outcome of a Championship to rest on ANY thing not controlled by man.

We will have a Super Bowl here at FedEx Field. It is one of my personal goals. Whether it be with an inflatable dome or whether we are granted an outdoor Super Bowl we eventually will get one.

That and a Redskins HOF. Read the thread its a good one.

They could certianly play the game in Landover. They would have to convert the stadium to be covered though. The big problem is that the Superbowl activities would most certainly not be in Landover, but would be in D.C., and the possibility of weather/traffic problems would be the main problem.

Snyder and HOK have studied a temporary inflatable dome. I watched a special about domes like the one on the old Silverdome and the one on the Denver airport. Amazing technology to say the least. That it could be considered possible for FedEx is even more amazing. I think there will come a time where the new generation of owners speak out and say we are spending a billion dollars on our franchises and we deserve a rotating Super Bowl. The draft should rotate between NFL cities too.

During the 04 off season Washington, along with the Meadowlands, were finalists for the Super Bowl. Both lost out to Miami.
Snyder has been told if he put a roof on FedEx he will get one, cost is around 200 million+ and Danny said no.
The Super bowl should be played in one spot, I like the Rose Bowl, this insures no team has a home field advantage and the Rose Bowl holds over 100,000 people.
The Super Bowl will NEVER be played in a outdoor cold weather stadium, too many celebrities that want a glitzy glamour atmosphere, not Chicago in February.

The league has a mandate on Super Bowl sites. They will only allow southern, warm weather cities and cities with domes to host a SB. Period. Snyder was pushing for it after 9-11, because he said it would help NY and Washington generate a good amount of needed income after the attacks. Of course, the league shot down the idea, but gave NY an extra home game instead this season.

i didnt know we had so many football fans that were like little rich girls when it comes to the weather. people should put on a coat and shut up, including some of you on this thread that say cold weather sucks. however, i also realize that people in general suck so we still will have to get an inflatable dome probably. we'll see what danny can do.

Too cold for all the fancy beautiful people who attend Super Bowls. The majority of people (won't call them fans) are corporate executives, other big shots, and there family and friends. 15% if that nuch are football fans who get to attend the game.

Snyder put in a bid to host the 2008 super bowl last year i think it was or the year before.
Of course we didnt get it. The NFL League office is a bunch of panzies...
cold weather is FOOTBALL weather for crying out loud.
Dont you remember those neighborhood games where you wanted it to snow
so you could go outside and play in it with al of your friends? MAN those were fun times! :)

So, some corporate bigwig is going to spend $2K in order to sit three hours in traffic to sit in the 25 degree weather in a lousy stadium? (I know it's home, but it's really one of the worst stadiums in the league. At least out of the ten or so I've been to, it's the worst).
I mean, yes, they will for the Super Bowl, but I can't believe that anyone would be happy with that. There were complaints that Houston was too cold.
First of all, I think the Super Bowl should be only held in Miami, New Orleans, and maybe Los Angeles or San Diego. (At least until, Las Vegas builds an 80,000 seat dome.

I will keep saying it, GOING TO A COLDWEATHER BOWL GAME SUCKS
If I am gonna dish out the cash to travel and fly somewhere for a SuperBowl, it better be warm, there better be lots of hot parties, and even more importantly lots of hot chicks
Washington DC would be one of the worst cities for a Superbowl
Give me Miami, Tempe, LA, New Orleans (if rebuilt), hell I can do Atlanta, San Diego has the beach, Vegas?
Washington DC, no way

It's not about what all you macho football purist are saying: "Football is meant to be played in cold weather! rah rah!"
The fact is, the NFL is worried about celebrities, halftime shows, media, sponsors, etc....way more than they are about what kind of weather football SHOULD be played in.
The bottom line is that until we get a roof, which isn't happening, we're not going to get a Super Bowl, or even be considered.

Speak for yourself buddy. We get it. You wanna see hot bitches strutting around in thong bikinis. You wanna party and get drunk with celebrities and corporate asses who get all the best seats. You want what the NFL has made the superbowl into. Congrats on being brainwashed by corporate America.
DC would not be the worst place for a superbowl. Last I checked, football was meant to be played in the elements. That should include every game. If a city has a dome, so be it. But to not play above the Mason Dixie line(outside) cause its too cold is absolutley redonkulous. That's right, I said redonkulous.

ONCE AGAIN, the leauge doesn't want ANY weather conditions to be the deciding factor for who is a better team in the CHAMPIONSHIP. Sure i know the weather is just "a part of the game" but they want to make sure that the better team wins the game and not because of any weather reasons.

The better team should be able to win in the rain or snow or sleat. It rains on both teams, it snows on every square yard of the football field and the wind swirls the same for every kicker. It not like one team gets an advantage in adverse conditions.

Think about this. Doesn't it benfit dome teams, who play half+ their games in domes, to play in domes? They are used to it moreso than teams that play outside. They know what shoes work best. They know how to handle the noise better. Isn't that an advantage for a dome team?

The weather restrictions are one of the reasons I've always found the Championship round of the playoffs slightly more enjoyable to watch than the Super Bowls. I love watching January football in the snow, sleet, wind, cold...it's awesome!
Starting around this time of year is when football begins to pick up. The championship game should be no different than the rest of the home stretch/playoffs. It just seems odd that you go from 8-10 weeks of cold football to a 78 degree, sunny day for the biggest game!
Maybe they could just give the better team home field advantage...or how about a rotating Super Bowl (like others have suggested) that includes every NFL city.

haha fair point, but I definitly agree that the weather in January plays such a huge part in the conference championship games and its not fair to always have it in a down or tropical place. I'd love to see some sort of rotation of venue.
