View Full Version : How are we out of the playoff hunt?

It's not impossible to go 5-1 over the last 6 and be in prime position to make the post season. I dont get why so many people are saying there is no shot. If we finish strong and if teams like the Broncos and Chiefs beat the cowboys.. we are right back in it. I'm not counting us out yet at all. A win next week is going to have everyone on here talking playoffs again and you know it.

We have won 2 of our last 7 games. There is very little reason to think the skins will win 5 of 6 at this point. Sure it would be nice....but it's not likely at this point.

You're right. It is not impossible, but we need alot of games to go our way, and need to pretty much win out. 5-1 is possible, yes. I think if we lose to Marty next week though it IS over. I pretty much see us going 9-7. Not because I don't think we won't win next week, but because I think we will prob lose to the Giants as well as blow an easy game that we should have won (see today) to St. Louis or Arizona.

True - we are not totally out of the picture -- IF we handle our end of the bargain. But that starts with the organization - and the fans - concentrating on the game ahead. If we don't beat SD, forget it. Same with ST Louis and Arizona. Let's focus on the Chargers right now. If, after these next three weeks go into the win column, then we can talk playoff scenarios.

These same posts have been printed year after year with the Redskins. And I guarantee you if they lose next week to the Chargers, people on here will say we can run the table and still finish 10-6. But what have you seen over the last 7 weeks to believe the Skins can win 5 out of their last 6? They've lost 5 out of the last 7. They continue to turn over the ball. They continue to lack a pass rush. They continue to find ways to lose.

We are in every game. It's not impossible to think we can get hot and start making things go our way. Maybe it wont happen, but it is entirely possible. I'm sure as hell going to root for it to happen.

You're right, a win does have everyone here talking playoffs again. And that's exactly the problem. It's all or nothing with us. Super Bowl or suicide. This whole board (with a few exceptions) just needs to get a freaking grip.

You're also right in that 5-1 is not impossible. But I do believe it's unlikely. We're a middle-of-the-pack team right now. No more. No less. I think 3-3 is realistic. But we could just as easily be better (or worse).

What makes me sick is people calling for the heads of Gibbs, Williams and 43 guys out of the 53 man roster. Under no circumstances is it time to write this team off. Time for concern? Absolutely. But I'd have just a little worry in the back of my mind if we were 7-3.

Hang in there people, and HTTR!

We are not out of it, but we sure made it more difficult, and put more doubt into it happening with this loss.

statisticly, sure we're still in the playoff picture. so are a lot of teams. realistically, it's gonna be darn near impossible. our only hope is that this team plays better when its back is against the wall but i don't really get that feeling from this bunch. let's just beat dallas and somewhat salvage this season.

Possible, yes.

Likely, no.

Now we've started turning it over at home. We're moving backwards, not forwards. Norvo ended our unbeaten streak at home. Good teams protect a lead at home and finish teams off. We don't.

I'd love to win out, but it's just not realistic.

The division is really strong. You can't lose these non divisional games, let alone divisional ones. Oakland is an average team, and they came into your house and beat you guys. If you had trouble with Jordan, wait for Tomlinson. There's some tough games for you guys left, regardless of how hard the other NFC East teams might have it. Dallas and NY could both go 3-3 and make the playoffs, while you guys need to win 4, but more likely 5 games out of 6 to make the playoffs. When your 2 for your last 7, that's probably what makes people see what's up.

It's over, it sucks to say so but it is

Eh.. oh well it is what it is. We are a pass rush and a complimentary wide out away from being great. We need to bring in a FA DE and draft one in the second round. That will completely change everything about this defense. More sacks, more turnovers, less big plays.

Mathematically we're still in it...but if we don't figure out a way to rush the passer we'll be fortunate to win half of our remaining games. The problem is our weaknesses have been exposed over the past several weeks and we have not yet been able to adjust.

It's easy to say that we can win 5 of our last 6...but to do that we actually have to fix what's been ailing us. And we have yet to show any sign of doing that.

Hell yeah! Never give up hope, i know that i'll be at FedEx on sunday cheering with everything I got, a win on sunday and a Dallas and or NYG loss and we're right back in it. With the exception of the Giants game, we have been in every game. To my knowledge we're not mathematically eliminated, so the playoffs should still be the goal. :helmet:

I think to say you are a WR and a DE away from being great is an understatement. You aren't going to just get a Julius Peppers/ Dwight Freeney type player. Where do you see the money to get that DE? It's one of the highest paid positions, and I don't think your cap situation would allow you to sign a big time one. Plus, they usually don't come on the market.

In terms of a WR, I think you need a big bodied type. That's what you're lacking.

The way Danny Boy spends, it seems like he always feels like he is only a few players away from the big dance every off season. Til that front office gets its head out of its ass, you guys are going to be mediocre

Well said, i've never liked Snyder. He brings in the big names with the money he throws at them but where has it gotten us? We didn't need Jeff George, we needed Brad Johnson, who btw won a SB after he left. We didn't need Deion Sanders, who btw never did anything while he was here and was a suspect corner for a time before that. Bruce Smith...... Jeremiah Trotter.... The list goes on. The best acquisition we made was Lavernues Coles, who we traded for perhaps the best WR in the NFCE. The personnel is coming back together and we will put it together soon...I hope. Playoffs probably won't happen THIS year but it's in our not too far off future. I still don't like old Dan but I have to live with him until the Skins come back around, I'm starting to think its never gonna happen. I get my hopes up every week that I'm gonna see the redskins of old out there. You all remember it, Gary Clark, Art Monk, Darrell Green and company. I miss those days, the days that you could turn on the tube or go to RFK and you just knew the skins were gonna win no matter who they were playing. But, alas, those were the days of JKC and they're gone now. I personally don't think we can have a winner here until we get rid of Snyder. just my :2cents:

Livestrong, i admire your optimisim. And yeah, we are in every game. Unfortunately we don't come out on top much lately

At least that was a road game for Dallas. This was far more embarrasing for a playoff "contender" such as Washington.

It's not impossible, but this team has to show it can put some wins together. We haven't won consecutive games since the 3-0 start...
