Ok,
Lets put in end to this crazy statements saying we do not need to win next week. Hello people the San Diego game is now a critical and must win, yes it is against an AFC oppenent, but it still counts in the W/L columns.
Lets do some math here:
We are currently 2 games behind NY and Dallas
If we were to lose next week and both other teams win then we would be 3 games behind with 5 to go.
Yes we play each, so even if we win both we are still 2 back, then they play each other so we are sure to be 1 back, but still 2 back of another with 3 to go.
If we tie with Atlanta and somehow tie with one of the other teams in our division or win the division then we are in, but to do that we have to almost win out. We can not depend on the teams in front of us losing, so we need to take it in our hands and win.
With our luck Dallas and NY will win the games we think they will lose :(

Enough math, let's move on to History class.
This team, after all, is history...at least for this year.

SD is a must win. We are not history as of now (technically).
Im not ready to give up...if I was I wouldnt be on here. The outlook looks less favorable right now than if we had won obviously but im not ready concede the season. 1pm I will be just as antsy/excited this upcoming Sunday as I was last week or the week before.

I think that SD is a cross roads game. It will most likely tell which way the season will end up.
Win - You can feel good about beating a good team and take that momentum on the road against two mediocre teams.
Lose - Probably end up 8-8 / 7-9. Start looking ahead to next year and hope the team can fix the the turn over issue, find a pass rusher, and get a good #2 WR to help take the pressure off Moss.
I think even if we do lose though there is still a chance to get into the playoffs however I kind of doubt that happens.

Our season ended before it began! When Joe left the first time, it ushered in the current era of losing. Mr. Snyder thought that if we could bring back Joe we could reverse the curse. Well, we had a chance this week and we blew it. The "NORVAL" curse continues and it doesn't stop there. Oh no, we have Schottenheimer's curse to try and reverse next week! Our team is doomed and we as fans have to suffer!!!!

EDIT: Not trying to hi-jack the thread -- I agree, San Diego is a must win. Although technically we can lose, and still finish 10-6 with a great shot at the playoffs...
Okay, here's another math lesson.
Rod Gardner + Football = Sucks.
I'm sick of reading about how "if we only still had Gardner opposite Moss  we'd be undefeated." Gardner was terrible, his work-ethic was terrible, and he had a bad attitude. Good riddance. True, he had some monster games.....................followed by 7-8 games where he might as well have not shown up for.
How does everyone forget this fact so quickly??? Yes, we need a legitimate #2 alongside Moss, but Gardner is not/was not the answer.
(Also, don't you all find it hilarious that right after the Moss trade the only thing coming out of people's mouths was that we had a roster full of #2 receivers, but now that Moss has established himself we find that all we ever had was a #1 and a bunch of slackers?? I do.... :( )

Things are never so bleak where the statement of the obvious is can't come into play. :)

Seems to me that if we go 10-6 we will in all likelihood make the playoffs. So, if we lose to San Diego, that will put us at 5-6. Which means we still have to win the final 5 games to make it. WHICH MEANS, the season isn't over until we lose our 7th game.
Oh, and note to SkinsXL, lighten the freak up dude, you're supposed to enjoy football, not revel in misery over it.

You may be right about that...you could REALLY tell by the look on the faces of Moss, Brunell, Cooley etc in the post game locker room coverage. The Tampa game was a crushing defeat and I'm not sure we will recover. It's possible that we did take Oalkland too lightly and even overlooked them going into the Charges game this week. This week will be tell tale. A win may generate some momentum going on two MUST WIN road games. A loss, pretty much is the nail in the coffin.

Well, if as you say, the hope for this year may be gone for the 'skins...but at least, LJ, we'll have the hope you bring to the board to hang on to until next year. :shot:
