In ESPN the Magazine this week, it had a rumor that an MLB scout thought Daniel Cabrera should close for us if he can't find consistency, what do you thinK?

Depends if we can pick up another starter or two......
I still think Daniel has the ability to become an excellent starting pitcher.

That's silly. Cabrera will eventually have super nasty stuff, IMO.

Cabrera may have the stuff to be a dominant closer, but he doesn't have the nerves. He gets too rattled when runners get on base. Leave him in the rotation, he's going to be an ace.

I agree, leave him in the rotation.
It's all mental with this kid. If he learns to keep his head on straight he could be awesome.
When i heard we got Mazzone, he was the first person i thought of. Hopefully Mazzone can help him out.

His groundball and k ratios are beyond awesome. Leave him in the rotation. This shows ESPN's lack of knowledge of Ray.

It was actually in a little blurb that Tim Kurkjian does in ESPN the Mag, and he was quoting scouts from other teams who told him this. Basically, it was that these clowns don't think Cabrera will reach his potential as a starter, and would be more succesful in a closer role.

well i must say, if he cant get it together soon, and if ray doesnt come around and we have closing problems, he has to be considered, but i doubt it would work out

D-Cab has been in the league for all of two years, has a total of just 56 career starts, and is 24 years old yet your patience is already growing thin with him? Most "experts" claim that pitchers don't truly reach their prime until somewhere around the age of 30. Let the kid develop.

56 starts? man, it doesn't seem like that much...crazy how time flies.
Any word on how many starts it takes to reach full potential? I've also heard that it a pitchers prime is anywhere from 30-32, but I was wondering how many starts it takes for a pitcher to get fully adjusted.

It varies. The great ones seemingly hit the ground running and are fully adjusted within 30 starts or so. I'd say the average successful major league pitcher takes anywhere from 60-85 starts to completely become adjusted. So figure 2 to 4 years approximately.

Some people forget he didn't get that couple of years to work on things in 3A which he skipped altogether after a short stint in 2A. Based on other players who work thier way up I would say over the next 3 years he reaches that all-star statis. Although, with the potential he's shown and how quick he was brought up it could be sooner than 3 years.

I think people are a little impatient with him because he's our best pitcher, which is very sad. We can't afford to stick D-Cab in the 3 or 4 slot, where he should be, and I hope it doesn't hurt him in the long run. Angelos and Beattigan couldn't get their heads out of their asses and get some decent pitchers, so they had no choice but to bring him up a year or 2 early, when he should've been down in 3A ball most of the last 2 years.

Cabrera will figure it out. Quicker now that Mazzone is behind him. Take your ESPN the Magazine and toss in the trash. That magazine is horrid.
