Title pretty much speaks for itself. I dont get it, do they serve fans in different regions of NY? Do NY fans simply support whichever is doing better? The only other state with 2 teams clearly has them divided (oakland and sanfran). So whats with the 2 NY teams?

I know the population supports them, but it seems if that if any team should move to L.A., it should be a team from N.Y.

Personally, of all the teams in all of the major sports - the JETS are the team i have the least respect for. I mean, not only do they play in a state they aren't even named for - plus, they play in a stadium named after ANOTHER FOOTBALL TEAM!!!
Plus, there is the years of horrible teams. :jetssuck:

Well I heard they are jointly building a $1B stadium with the Giants in NJ, but still they should at least change their name to NJ jets.

The Giants were an NFL team. The Jets were an AFL team. When the two leagues merged... voila...two teams.

New York does NOT have two teams. New York, actually, has one team, the Buffalo Bills.

New York fan groups can (generally speaking) be divided into these categories:
Mets, Jets, Nets, and Islanders
Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers
It's hard to generalize the fan bases by Jets fans tend to come from Queens, Staten Island, parts of Brooklyn and maybe Connecticut. The Giants take a lot of their fans from Mahattan, the majority of Brooklyn and New Jersey. I don't have a feel for fan interest in The Bronx.
(Keep in mind that there are more 5 times as many people in the single borough of Brooklyn than there are in the city of Washington, DC. The DC metro area has about 3.2 million people. There are 21 million people in the New York metro region.
So, statiscally, New York should be able to support 7 pro football franchises if DC can support one.)

LOL........following "Your" logic, Washington DC has no team either, right? Other wise your team would be called Maryland Redskins.
The name New York Giants or Jet pertains to playing in the New York Metropolitan area.........Just like the name Washington Redskins pertains to playing in the Washinton Metropolitan area, even though they're located in Landover, Maryland.

Why is your in quotes? If you're trying to sound smart by demeaning my logic the word logic should have been surrounded by quotes.
And actually, you're correct. The Redskins are not in DC. Kinda plain and simple isn't it?
Doesn't change the point that the only team that plays football in actual New York is the Buffalo Bills much, does it?
I'm not saying change their names because their not from New York, but the fact is only one team plays in New York. Not two, not three. One.

Meant nothing about the quotes around your, I just wanted to show that was your statement. Sorry if you got offended by that.

Only problem is that in your original post, you didn't make a point that only team that plays football in actual New York is the Bills, which is true.
Your original point was "New York does NOT have two teams. New York, actually, has one team, the Buffalo Bills."
That was when I responded that New York Giants and Jets pertaining to playing in the New York Metropolitan area.

You could of been a little more clearer in your first statement. :D
No harm done, we just misunderstood each other.

The purpose of the Giants is to be one of our NFC East rivals ... they provide good competition and entertaining games for the Redskins on our way to the Super Bowl.
The purpose of the Jets is to be our farm team ... they develop players and then send them to the Redskins. When those players don't work out, we send them back to the Jets and call up the next hot prospect.

Perhaps you should read a bit more clearly, we've already determined that to be true.

what a crazy thread! the jets and giants have no problem filling the seats when they are competitive so i don't think its a big deal. it would be strange if they both were in the NFC.
