View Full Version : Have skins perfected the trio package of Portis, Moss, and Cooley?

I mean it seems like week in and week out, those 3 or at least 2 have very good games, even when the defense lets up... If we cant run. we do a screen to Cooley or Moss, if we cant pass just pound the ball with Portis, we've seemed to be doing this to perfection lately.
Imagine how good these guys are gonna be with a mobile Qb aka Campbell in the next few years if they all stay.

Are we seeing the most out of these three right now or will it get better/worse?

These past two games is probably what we get when these three click at thier highest level. If we can get production like this consistently this will be one of the best trios in the league, if not the best.

Another WR would be HUGE though. Its not quite perfect, but its working

I still think we need another receiver to complement Moss.

However, when we mix it up and Royal and Sellers in there it really works well.

Dont know about "perfected" yet. It takes a couple seasons I think to throw that term around. But we are dangerous with three legit threats.

The key is Portis. If we get him going like we can, everything else just falls in to place.

And they are all young, with Moss being the oldest at 26. This trio could be special if we keep all our solid players on the roster with them. They could POSSIBLY have 6-7 years of success together. Sounds nice doesn't it?

Yeah thats what I was thinking, if they all stayed together for several years and we'll probably get a decent WR through the next few years and thatll help Moss and Cooley also, then thatll open the running game for Portis even more.

Yes, they are all playing @ a very high level now. It would be awesome if we had another top flight receiver like Reggie Wayne to complement Moss.

I think these players are all great. They are a testament to Gibbs ability to evaluate personnel. Also, their production is a testament to the improved play of the o-line under Buge's tutelage.

I'd love to see us pick up a possession receiver with size who can make clutch first down catches.

Chris Cooley?...

Isn't that Cooley?

Really, we need a compliment to Moss on the other side to take some of the heat off.

Chris Cooley?...

I was thinking more along the lines of an Art Monk clone at the WR opposite of Moss.

Cooley is our Art Monk right now, but that's not ideal. He's not really taking coverage away from Moss. If we pick up a legit #2 WR we'll really be in business.

i kinda figured you meant wide out, but i dont assume. I agree, we could use a definate no. 2 wideout. I mean if we had like a Reggie Wayne our offense could explode. Im sure Gibbs is going to look at Patten's status come the end of the season, and see if that's an area that we need to address. But then again, if you look at it, Moss has gotten open, whether he had a no. 2 reciever or not, and how many formations do the skins run where there is only 1 reciever split wide, and 2 TE's or RBs? Just a thought

Moss is good enough that he'll get his. But I'm not concerned with individual stats. I want team stats. I would rather have both an 1100-yard WR and a 900-yard WR than one 1500-yard WR. Yes, our offense works adequately with Moss alone. That doesn't mean it couldn't be better if we got someone to compliment him.

There's only one football to go around. I would tend to agree with the poster about finding a possession receiver of some sort (Monk clone if you will). The Skins were lucky in Gibbs v1.0 to have Monk, Clark, and Sanders but with the salary cap, there's no way you'd be able to afford all three in today's NFL.

BTW, I think of Cooley = Didier+.

Eric Moulds?

If Ramsey plays, I just hope he does not forget Cooley. Ramsey has a big arm and he is not a short pass thrower, hopefully he has learned from Brunell.

That's foolish. Ramsey's favorite target was Cooley last year. Wasn't all the worry in the preseason the lack of timing with Moss and Ramsey? Patten was getting a WHOLE lot more passes than with Brunell.

If Jason Campell pans out they could be known as the Fearsome Foursome. I can see a picture of them now, with uniforms dirty looking all bad*****.

Yeah if campbell turns out to be what hes really capable of, and these three stay and are still healthy.. we may have one of the best offenses soon.

yea i remember patten tearing it up in preseason, moss was always getting under or overthrown. to me i think we just need a solid QB( Brunell has done more than expected) but if we can fine someone who can see the whole field. hopefuly Cambell will answer the call when his time comes.

That's what I'm seeing in the future SHF, not a real stat-gatherer, but a key alternative weapon. Imagine trying to cover four consistently effective main weapons simultaneously, plus worrying about extra blocking TE/h's like Royal, Sellers, Johnson etc. releasing too.

No.

You can't have a superstar trio without a star QB. Hopefully Moss, Portis and Cooley will continue to lead a championship team that rarely misses the playoffs with...
