View Full Version : Is Andy Reid throwing in the towel already? (Wash. Times article)

What does Andy Reid mean by a statement like this?? A coach who is supposed to get his players ready and hyped for a game, comes out in a Press Conference to concede defeat while the game has not even being played. I wonder what this tells the rest of the team.

Eagles coach Andy Reid apparently doesn't see his team standing in the Redskins' way, saying, "You guys (Skins) are going to be in the playoffs, fired up and ready to go. You won't have to worry about me."

I'm a Skins fan.

That means when anything good is seemingly on the horizon, I'm pretty cautious about it.

I don't care if their whole team is second stringers....ANY GIVEN SUNDAY.

When we are winning, and the 4th Quarter Clock ticks to 0, then I'll celebrate our first winning record and playoff birth in almost 6 years.

Maybe he's playing possum? I sort of doubt that Andy Reid would say that in complete seriousness. If we could get a video of that quote, I would expect to see his tounge firmly planted in his cheek.

It's pretty clear that he said it with a heavy dose of sarcasm hoping that some idiot reporter would run with it.

 Whats up with the Washington Times this week??? Reporting all this crud, all these distractions.
Of course Andy Reid wouldn't throw in the towel; no NFL coach would, especially one of his caliber

This is bulletin board material for eagle players. But I can't see the Redskins falling for it, but good try though.

This is a ploy by Reid, no doubt--this will be a tough physical game on both sides of the ball as usual.....

we cant let this get into our heads, and take this game as seriously as any other game, and play to win as we have been.

I actually heard this interview on the radio. And I think everyone is way off base.

Reid sounded like he was tired of answering questions when he made that statement. The reporter followed up with (paraphase) 'You know the Skins have to beat you to clinch a playoff berth' Reid did not respond right away and stamered a little bit.

I think he probably didn't know of all the possible playoff senerios because he knows the Eagles are already out of it. I'm sure he knows that the Skins beat Dallas twice and Dallas is the only team they show next to the Skins in the playoff standings. He probaby figured we had the tie breaker over them. Or, he doesn't give a crap about who is going to the playoffs since he isn't going. :2cents:

I heard something about this on thursday from a friend who had heard him on the radio, but I figured it was probably posted somewhere on this site.

Appearently, in an interview with sports talk 980's Bram Weinstein, Andy Reid said something like "Oh, well the Redskins are going to be in the playoffs, don't worry about it" and then he backtracked his way out of the comment. (paraphrasing)

This makes the most sense to me....he didn't realize the skins need the win....

If that is the case, i hope no one tells him we need the win. let them take it as an end of the season game and not show any emotion at all. Lol.....

I seen Brian Dawkins on an interview 2 days ago and he didnt even say nothing about the game. He was focused on there injuries, next year when they get healthy, and had a handfull of team mates who should go, which is bad news for any team. No he didnt name them but I think I might know who one of them is lol.

I'm sure Andy didnt mean that seriously and actually I think it was kind of clever of him. It could get the Skins feeling a little full of themselves or the Eagles feeling disrespected...Please lets just win this one! I cant wait for Sunday!!

yea, but he is playing possum, although they would only hurt their draft status by beating us.

thats why the question that comes to mind is, "should the eagles beat us, and hurt their draft chances? or should they lay-down or not play as tough against us, to strengthen them?"

That's probably the least of my worries, and not because it would be difficult to keep focused but because gibbs is probably the best coach in the NFL at doing this and I don't think that will be any problem for the skins...but it will be another tough nfc east battle

You can bet the Eagles will come out with fire in their eyes. They'd like nothing better than to knock us out of the playoffs and end on a positive note. Anyone who is taking this game lightly better wake up. It is NOT a given that we win. On paper, yes, we probably should win but the game will not be played on paper. The winner will be the one that shows up to play and earns it.

I think if we get them down early and have a nice lead going into the 2nd half they may start giving up and going through the motions. However, we first have to get to that point. It could well be a dog fight and I'm sure the beginning will be unless we execute and play well like the last 2 games.

I'm sure the coaching staff is telling the players that this is a playoff game.

If we win, we probably get the 13th pick.....if we lose, we get 14, no matter what. Not too big of a deal so don't get your hopes up for the Eagles to play lax for the draft pick.

If you listen to enough of Andy Reid's press conferences, you could imagine his tone of voice when he said it.
Low key. All business. Like when he says "Times yours" after the injury report.
He's not going to add fuel to any potential fire.

Matt Mckoy will be starting, I believe. He has something to prove. Dawkins always is a force. Trotter always plays strong. I actually thought he would be on IR by now with his knees. He surprised me.
I don't think the Eagles will play easy, I just don't think they have any chance at winning. :eaglesuck
