Redskins enter playoffs banged up at cornerback

Washington

CB Shawn Springs’ sore right groin, an injury that had been bothering him for weeks entering the final week of the regular season, worsened after Springs had been beaten for a touchdown by Eagles WR Reggie Brown. Springs left the game after that play, and his status was thought to be doubtful — not only for the team’s playoff game at Tampa Bay but also for further games if the Redskins were to advance. Losing Springs would leave the team without its best cover guy and force the team to play Walt Harris and possibly newly signed Christian Morton in roles larger than the team would like. That’s because rookie Carlos Rogers could miss the game with a torn left biceps, as could Ade Jimoh, who was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. Rogers is believed to have made good progress and appears a good possibility for the first-round game, but Jimoh’s status is unknown. Losing this much depth at corner likely would cause Gregg Williams to alter his defensive play-calling strategy quite a bit, perhaps using more zone than he prefers.

Whispers

The Redskins’ loss of LB Chris Clemons to injury could lead to an expanded role in the playoffs for LaVar Arrington, who had been replaced by Clemons on passing downs.

They should list Springs as probable even if he is doubtful. No reason to give up your hand to the opposition before the game.

I suspect there are strict rules about this, although how they are enforced I have no idea.

Jimoh is fine. This is not a new problem for him. He will play.

Anyone who has seen the Gibbs press conference or read the articles on Redskins.com know that both Rogers and Jimoh are playing on Sat.

I can live with Arrington coming in on passing downs. I dont see this as a problem at all.

I'm sure the Bucs are well aware that Springs might not play. Plus, you would think picking on a backup CB would be a pretty simple adjustment for Gruden to make in-game so there's no point in trying to be sneaky.

I think we all have to give Jimoh some credit, he's turned himself into a really valuable member of this team.

If Ade has been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, wouldn't it be totally negligent of the medical staff to even contemplate allowing him to play this week?

We had a player in the AFL (Australian Football League) collapse early in a game with a similar problem and did not play another game for the rest of the season.

When it comes to heart problems, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Even as we struggle to keep DB's fit, it wouldn't surprise me to see Ade on the inactive list this week.

All of the Skins corners will play against the Bucs. Take that to the bank. Springs will play, but won't be 100%.

As someone else pointed out in Gibbs' press conference he made me think that he has had this issue for a while and is not a problem. It is on redskins.com check it out for yourself. From the PC it would seem that rogers and jimoh will likely play on saturday.
