View Full Version : Should I shave my head?

Okay, so hair sucks. (Sorry to you baldies out there). Its a pain in the ass, at least I think so. I was hoping to get some input from you guys (the ladies, mostly) as to whether or not I should shave my head.
EDIT: Not shave it bald with a razor, use the clippers and cut it really really short.
Thanks!

Well the hair your sporting isn't working
I would high and tight it or a crew cut to make sure your head is smooth.

Shave your head? Bald?
No way. Keep the hair .... If it's that big of a pain in the ass ... then I'd recommend just cutting it shorter!

Okay, about my hair in the picture -- I went swimming today, so its kind of wet and chlorine-y, which is why it doesn't look the greatest. But thanks anyway, dick!! :silly: :)

Dude you have to do it but 1st you gotta do the "monk cut". Thats when you shave just the top and leave to sides and the back long. I did it once in H.S. and wore a hat to school, when I took my hat off my boys died laughing. Then shave the rest.

Not bald; I guess I should have used the word "buzz" instead of shave...
I go back and forth between pretty close cuts (I guess buzz would be close, but I tend to leave half an inch on top) and having it be "long," which for me is about1.5-2 inches.
I'd recommend getting some clippers if your butt don't got 'em yet, and using the blade attachments to cut your hair anywhere from 1 inch to 1/2.
And you don't even have to taper or layer or anything. You could just make it uniform and outline your sideburns and back hairline and curve around your ears to clean that up.
I've been cutting my own hair, minus a couple of haircuts, since I was 14.

Every guy should shave his head once. I think its important to know what the shape of your head is like so you can make arrangements if it's misshapen and you lose your hair
For the record, my head is horribly misshapen. God forbid I ever go bald  :paranoid:

Why not?
Here is the main problem you need to consider however. One night I passed out at a frat house and woke up with a bad haircut which led to me having to shave my head. I'm a big dude and thought I would look badass with a shaved head but frankly I looked like batboy:
http://olympia.ssri.psu.edu/pictures/batboy.jpg
I really looked stupid because the scalp where my hair used to be was milk white cause it hadn't seen the sun since I was a baby. Definately rub some fake sun tan lotion on your head if you shave it.
Oh and by the way you are gonna feel really weird for about a week until you get used to having no hair.

January-24th-2006, 10:32 PM
I say buzz away bro. Its so much easier.
I usually buzz my head with the 1.5 setting on the shaver.
My hair is either a huge fro or shaved short. After my fro gets a little too out of hand I just buzz it all off. Feels great and showers take no time at all.

Heh -- you can't really tell from the picture, but my goat is getting pretty long as well. That is kind of intimidating too! :)
Of course, I can't wear hats right now because my hair is too big. Shaving my head will allow me to wear hats, which I will probably do most of the time! :)

I just cut my hair with my new set of clippers (now my third purchased set in my lifetime.) This one is really light, has 5 taper settings for the blades, 3 total blades that you can snap in. ONe is for the normal stuff, the other for outlining hair lines and sideburns and the other is for sculpting facial hair (if you have it.)
Now I will stop twirling my hair. It's weird. When my hair isn't long, I don't even go near it. When it starts getting shaggy(for me) I go right back to age 7.
Definitely feels cleaner and neater now. Also shaved with the english cream and double-edged safety razor.
Ahhhhhhh...

Mine'll be long(-ish) till the day I die. This is mainly because I have the one of two variations of Jewish hair; it's not crazy frizzy and curly, but so straight and thick that it grows out instead of down, and my hair has to grow 3 inches to make it look like it's grown 1 inch.

I go bald every couple of years, but usually use clippers with a #1 comb at other times. That takes to the just on spiky level, then just maintain it by running the clippers over it every 4-6 weeks.
Jrock, no offense mate, but longish hair with that hairline..? And start the goatee again but work on it - don't let it run wild.
However, my philosophy is that I don't really give a rat's how my hair looks because I can't see it.

I have been shaving my head for about 7 years now. I will give you this advice. You have to have the right head for it. Me, I admit it, I have a big round Charlie Brown head. If you have a round, smooth head I say go for it. If you don't like it then let it grow back out. If you are one of those with a head that looks like the surface of the moon, please, don't shave it :)

Id just trim it up short, not all the way off. If you take it all off you might end up with too much of a baby-face look.

Hey dude I had my hair as long as yours recently and I totally agree. It's a huge ****ing pain in the ass. Every ****ing day the **** was stressing me out. I felt totally gay as well, you know with having a hair crisis and all. I decided to cut it as well and my life is so much simpler now. That being said don't shave it. Just cut it short. See how it looks and if it works. You can always go back and get it cut down some more. If you go straight to the shave and it looks horrible then you have to look like a tool for a couple of months while you wait for it to grow back out.

:secret: Look at the date of the original post, bro!! ;)

Ive been shaving my head for a couple of years. Running your hand through it after youve shaven is like crack, once you start you cant stop. Dont do it in public though, you'll look like a freak.
You could get one of those electric shavers for the head, they usually come with clip ons for different sizes.
And you look cleaner in the last pic. Soon you will learn to appreciate the feeling in the morning of waking up, and having your hair already done, as if leprauchans had brushed it in your sleep.
disclaimer: I blame all spelling mistakes found above on the education system and the fact that im from Canada.

I know this thread was from a year ago, but the title is misleading. Jrock says he is going to shave his head then he winds up just getting a regular school boy haircut. ;)
Don't be a *****, shave it with a razor.

Thanks!
Dude, seriously. If the ladies are diggin' it - keep it. If not, shave it man. In personal experience both work so I couldn't give a personal opinion, but it is nice to know you can get up to go to work/class and not worry about it.

Do a buxx cut. People think you're hard and either leave you alone or grab their kids by their arms and say "...hurry along Timothy..." Definitly found a difference the way people treat you when I do a buzz cut. Face it...how many annoying people do you want to come up to you to ask the time? I could do without that...

Shave it JRock, then as it grows out you can decide where you like it best.

Jrock, I personally think you'd look much better with shorter hair so I voted yes.
I'm a guy though, so my opinion probably doesn't count :D

Shave your head? Bald?
No way. Keep the hair .... If it's that big of a pain in the ass ... then I'd recommend just cutting it shorter!
I agree! Go with a shorter cut rather than shaving it off.
