Just wondering if your significant other was a Skins fan when you met? How many are not yet Skins fan? Was being a Skins fan a criteria while dating?

I converted mine. She was a Jets fan before, now I catch her watching the press conferences on Redskins.com and keeping up with the team.

My wife doesn't like football. But she understands how important the Redskins are to me and gives me my space to follow them as I see fit.

Mine didn't care about football in the least. Three years later, she's as dedicated to the 'Skins as they come. Her friends and family say I should sell whatever I used to convert her and become a millionaire. hehehe.

It sure is! My husband and I are both from south Florida (originally Dol-fans) but we got reacquainted while attending grad school here in DC many years ago and we "converted" together! The fans and coverage here are so great!

My wife grew up in New England, then moved to VA. I converted her to love the Skins (instead of the Pats); she converted me to the Red Sox (instead of the O's). We still each have interest in our old teams, but she was rooting like crazy for the Skins when we beat the Pats a couple years ago.

I met my wife at college in Philadelpia, only to find out she grew up down here in Maryland, and was almost born in RFK. Her family are Redskin fans, so I knew she was raised right. We move back last year.
I must tell everyone, there is nothing like having gf or wife that is also a die hard Redskins fan. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Mine is a Bills fan, but has no problem rooting for the 'Skins as long as our interests don't affect her... ;)

My wife was a Bengals fan when I met her (no kidding, they really did exist back then :))...
...then she attended one Skins game with me and she was baptized into the family that day.

Yes....she's a Skins fan....and yes.....that was/is one of the criteria while dating. She loves football, and is right beside me every Sunday from 11:00am - 'til 11:30 pm...

Wow these are great. I wonder how long it took to convert them to Skins fans? Some you were able to do it pretty easily by attending a game. Any guys here that were converted by their girlfriend or wives?
I hope to find a skins guy. The odds are against me though living out here in Cali.

I'm working on mine. She's a Giants fan right now, but not avid. She is also a Tony Stewart fan, which means I'm going with the Joe Gibbs loyalty to convert her =). It's going slowly, but I think I can at least half-convert her.

January-25th-2006, 11:21 AM
Nope. She's a sports fan, but she roots for the 49ers. I tease her that it was that dreamboat Steve Young that made her a 49er fan (there may even be some truth to it).

Absolutely. My wife and I go to every home game.
She and I went up to Philly this year to see the sweep.
BTW significant other has to be the most watered down description a partner that I've ever heard. It's so PC it actually smells disinfected.

Guess I was trying to keep the title short by not naming it "Is your Spouse/Husband/Wife/Girlfriend/Boyfriend a Skins fan"

Your "serious" girlfriend? so you have a non-serious girlfriend too? Does she know about this? :D

I am pez's wife!
I was raised in SC but never had an NFL team only a college team. I was born and bred to be a Clemson Tiger fan and to hate the Cowboys (my older brother hated the Cowboys). So at age 2 my mom tried to buy me a shirt with a star on it and I said "no mommy, Dallas stinks".
So long story short when I moved here (Pez and I met in college), it was easy to be a Redskin fan. I grew up hating their rival and I love football.
So pez and I have a very peaceful NFL football relationship but he is a MD Terp fan so we argue about college all the time!

My girlfriend is a Dallas fan, imagine that. Took her to a Redskins game and now she says that she will root for both. I told that is not possible. So now, I am still hunting for a core Redskin girlfriend. Not easy to find.

Steelers before, Skins now. Converted this season. I just asked her if she was fired up about the Steelers going to the Super Bowl and she was like "meh, I just hope they embarrass the Seahawks for beating US."
I should probably get her some flowers for that.

Notice how women are so easily converted.
Man, you knock the stuff off that right (or pay them) and you can get a woman to switch teams, allegiances, bark like a dog--anything.
I know a Redskins fan (so-called) who rooted for the Seahawks 2 weeks ago. I think her boyfriend is converting her to an extent.
I had an ex who, while too busy to really pay attention, did root for the Skins when we were together.

Huly really didn't convert... she just knew she hated dallas (good start) I guess it was destiny that we got married, so that I could show her the path of enlightenment!

as sad as it is, i have never really dated a redskins fan. For some reason I attract all these Cowboys lovers. I don't know what it is. All I WANT is to date a die-hard fan like myself, but usually the guys I meet aren't. They may be fans, but don't get into it like I do. I need a male version of myself. Then life would be wonderful.
My ex is a dallas fan. That was a tough 5 1/2 years.

My fiancee is converted.... and although she won't watch the games she understands how large a role the Redskins have played in my life and why I'm a fan of the organization.
Last year I got her a pair of Redskin pajamas (Slinky tank top, sweatpant bottoms) and she wears them on Sunday mornings. Additionally, this year I got her a black hat with the script "R" for her to wear as well.... and they went 3-0 down the stretch when she wore it on gameday.

It does sound like it's easier for women to get converted. One they are not at all interested or they want to make their man happy :D .
I think its harder to convert guys over.

My wife hates sports, but luckily she understands that the Redskins are my team. She tries not to bother me during games, and even goes to 1-2 games a year with me (although she falls asleep in a stadium w/ 90k+ screaming people).
She's always down for a road trip though, like to the Tampa playoff game (this year and 1999). Can't complain.

She was a skins fan yes, more of a caps fan tho (hockey) she had never been to a Redskins game when we met 6 years ago. I took her to a pre season game (our 2nd date) against baltimore in 1999, and we have not missed a game together since. (i have season tickets) She grew up around the dc metro area .If i had learned she liked the cowboys, she was going to get dumped faster tha you could blink LOL :)

Mrs. C wasn't a fan of any team when we met. She had 3 older brothers growing up so watching football was something she'd do. I took her to a few Skins games at the "sombrero" and she attended the playoff game in '99
(the bad brad and turk incident) wearing skins wear.
She's a Skins lover for sure now :point2sky .

My wife was a football agnostic when we met. When the seat cushions went flying at the playoff game with Atlanta in 1991, she drank the Koolaid. She is now fully with the program. She also restricts access from non fans to me on gameday. She told me to have faith during the Monday night in Dallas. She called it!

NO! No! No!
Some girls might be wishy washy and convert but not me!
I never had an NFL team. I just cheered for whoever played Dallas. I was not a die hard fan of any team. I just had a die hard hatred for Dallas. Plus Sundays we had family dinners and my grandfather is addicted to NASCAR so I never really watched NFL. My dad lost interest in the NFL also because of the entire Baltimore Colts situation (my brother and father taught me football).
We watched more college football than anything else.
I am a die hard fan of the Clemson Tigers. I would not trade nor convert from my Tigers for anyone of anything. I also would never date a Carolina fan. That is taboo and would give me a death sentence from family and friends.
Pez has tried to convert me to be a MD Terps fan but NOPE not in this lifetime! Instead I argue with him. I put my Tiger paw car magnets on his car, hand tiger paw flags in our bed room, etc.
So please do not think girls are wishy washy. I know some might be but others will take offense to that like myself.

When I was dating (oh so many years ago), one of the questions I would ask on the first date was "are you a Redskins fan?"
If I got the answer "yes" or "not really a sports fan" that was cool with me.
If I got the answer "no" or "Redskins suck, I'm a Cowboys fan", then I never called her for a second date no matter how hot she looked.
When I met my wife 24 years ago, I asked her on our first date if she was a Redskins fan and she said "yes, I grew up watching the Redskins every Sunday with my Pop."
She then told me that her uncle (Pop's brother) was in the Redskins marching band in the 50's at Griffith Stadium, I just knew we would get along.
We have been married for 23 years now, and she goes to the games with me and to most Redskin events.
She is not as much of a diehard as myself, but she loves the Skins and that is cool with me.
