Well the coaching carousel is almost over for 2006. Raiders is waiting for the Steelers OC. If there's anymore openings- it would be the firing of Shotty in San Diego.
So here's my thoughts on the new coaches chances for success and the early hot seat for 2006. Feel free to post your thoughts.
1. Buffalo Bills: Dick Jauron- he had one good season with the Bears where they overachieved. Though the Bears GM wanted him gone for so long and didn't get him good players. GM: Marv Levy is 80, owner is 87. I don't think his chances are good for long term success and he'll probably be swept away in 2-3 years.
2. Detroit Lions: Rod Marinelli- having Matt Millen as a GM is big hinderance but if they hire Mike Martz as OC; then just maybe they can overcome MM.
This is one where you'll just have to watch.
3. Green Bay Packers:Mike McCarthy- Guess the Aaron Rogers era is about to start but the GM sucks. I don't like the chances of this guy succeeding.
4. Houston Texans: Gary Kubiak- He could be good or he can be a bust. Really, Shannahan called the plays in Denver. Another one you'll just have to watch and see.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Herm Edwards- He can the Chiefs in the superbowl, maybe as earlier as next year. He'll probably fall back some after the Trent Green run is over.
6. Minnesota Vikings: Brad Childress- Another coach where you'll have to wait and see. Has a good owner and that's a good start. Vikings weren't that bad; so compete with Bears for NFC North supremacy.
7. New Orleans Saints: Sean Payton - He's had his playing calling duties taken away from him twice. He's doomed because of the very unusual situation there. The owner wants to leave but is listening to the NFL for now. The NFL wants to take a wait and see what happens to NO long term; will the city come back. Though in reality- I think the NFL would love to move the team to LA- even if they have to wait 2-3 years to do it. It's going to be hard to get free agents to come here because of all the uncertainity surrounding the city.
8. New York Jets:Eric Mangini - good pedigree for the coach of our farm team  . The GM is a joke though and NY is a tough market. Eric may become a good coach but I don't think NY is the right situation for him.
9. Oakland Raiders : TBA - the new coach is doomed as long as AL pulls the strings. Only time Al was won in the last 20 years is when he let Gruden do what Gruden wanted to and didn't interfere. Heck- the Raiders were so stupid they used all the same plays the following year when they went to the bowl and got spanked.
10. St. Louis Rams: Scott Linehan - should do alright.
Overall, I think probably half the coaches hired will do well and half will fail.
Wonder who's job is on the hot seat for 2006:
1. Giants: Tom Coughlin- players are starting to rebell and I predict a last place finish this year and Tom's exit.
2. Cards: Denny Green- no .500 season at least and he's gone.
3. Falcons: jim Mora- no playoffs in 06 and no Jim Mora. The owner will take Vick over Mora anyday.
4. Chargers: Marty S.- could still get fired but if he comes back and doesn't make the playoffs in 06- he's gone.
5. Titans: Jeff Fisher- Bud Adams may decide to make a change. He shouldn't, they will get the team rebuilt.
6. Ravens: Bill Billick- he got a reprive this year but he may not get one next year should the Ravens fail again.
Not too many coaches on the hot seat for 2006.
