I read in the paper today that because of two injury plagued seasons, the steelers will most likely get rid of Duce Staley. I think that we could pick him up or at least trade Betts or somebody for him. What do you think??

I'll take Betts over an injury prone Staley.

not worth trading for, and we have a good backs corp so i dont see a need

With Bettis retiring, releasing Staley makes no sense.

I like his toughness but, I would stay with Betts and Cartwright they're younger and cheaper.

id take staley over betts any day.. betts has yet to show anything as a running back. all he does is run straight up the middle. good KR man though. staley a veteran knows much more than betts, and would be a good complement with CP. staley can run the same plays as CP does

We got a good core of RBs... Dont think we need to change it up right now.

He could be a marginal improvement over Betts but I don't think it would be worth it. He would cost more due to being a veteran, is injury prone (so is Betts) and would have to learn our offense. I just don't really see the upside?

Besides the fact that Betts is better than Staley, if we acquired him, could we ever pry him away from the buffet long enough to put pads on???

are you kidding me? Betts is such a good HB behind portis. Hey look at that redskins-rams game. he got like a 60 yard run to the the rams 20

Only things Betts does is PRODUCE, rarely get hurt, and makes Skins fans happy. I don't ever wanna get rid of him. He's one of the best back-ups in the game. Although, I do feel he will become a starter for someone someday and do a pretty good job.

Staley is older then my grandmother and I think he has a wooden leg by the way he runs.

i like betts, not bein a homer but i think betts is a better overall back, he is a better backup and a better starter if cp is hurt

There's no need for Staley, besides, he wants to be number 1.

No matter what the team does where the current backs behind Portis, I'm not all that thrilled with the idea. He's got a pretty good history behind him until the past couple of well documented years. He's been injured and a little further research shows he's turning 31 this month. Not ancient by any means, but considering the youth and talent the Redskins currently have, I'd say that makes this idea a little unrealistic.

He could be used I guess but the problem is he can't stay healthy !!!

no at all... Betts would go to Steelers and become a superstar.... duce would come and be a practice squad at best.....

I would rather have NEMO then Staley, he aint worth the roster spot anymore. He is just way too injury prone and i've never really seen him prove himself.

If he can't find playing time in front of Jerome Bettis and Verron Haynes, he isn't worth picking up.

Who wants Staley when we have Ladell Betts, Betts is a great change of pace RB.

NO way, I would never want Staley over Betts, this is absolute absurd and crazy. This is a silly thread.

It's the offseason - where the Redskins are required by federal statute to obtain every free agent with a recognizable name.

Absolutely not!! We are completley covered at the RB situation. Our current backs are more than capable.

Betts has consistantly been a great #2 option. He has done more for our running game in times of need than any other backup in the league. We need to keep Betts, he knows the system and has experience. And he is a great change of pace back. Gives Portis a break when needed. Rock will get an offer that we don't match and he will be gone. As much as I like Rock, there are plenty other young guys who are hungry to make an NFL roster be it on ST or on the practice squad. I would be surprisd if we kept Nemo and Rock, since they have basically the same physique and running style.

If I had my choice I would keep them all. But Betts is solid, he won;t be going anywhere fopr at least another year. We'll get more out of him this last year than we would making a trade for another 2nd stringer. Just my :2cents:

I would not be surprised at that at all, if the Iggles don't go for a big time RB like Alexander or Edge, I could see Staley jumping back in their offense quite easily. That being said - I hope they stick with Westbrook and Moats. Nothing personal.

SteelerSkins
February-8th-2006, 12:16 PM
He'll probably be a cap caualty, being that he's going to cosyt quite a bit against it and the Steelers have more pressing needs to re-sign Randle El (which might not happen) and safety Chris Hope, plus back up defensive end Brett Keisel - the heir apparent to Kimo vol Olhoffen.

That said, I doubt anyone will bite at his current salary, though the Steelers, with Bettis retiring, 3rd down back Verron Hanes likely departing in free agency, and Willie Parker far from a workhorse, could go from deep to thin at RB just that quick if they let him walk . . . it'll be the most interesting sub plot to their off season FA list, for sure.

I actually like Staley and the toughness he brings to the table. He could easily give us 8-10 quality carries a game.

We don't need Staley. It would be a worthless transaction, if you ask me.

Why would we downgrade our running back position by switching Duce for Betts?

elgallo
February-8th-2006, 01:56 PM
yeah.. helll no.. No need for ducey to be here with us.. Ladell makes a great combo with Portis. No need for him.. besides he's a forme eagle.. :)

An old injury proned former Eagle over a driven young true Redskin? Hmm. let me think about that.
