View Full Version : Smoot?

With the probability of smoot getting released by the vikings after the love boat scandal rising, is he a player that we should look to picking up in free agency? With springs getting older, shifting springs to a safety spot and slotting smoot again at 2nd corner might be good. This scenario would be especially good if taylor ends up serving jail time (which i hope and don't believe will happen) ...

What do yall think?

This is like telling the doctor who just removed your brain tumor, "You know, I think I liked it where it was. Why don't you put it back."

I have evidence from his time at MSU [he called a couple of marching band girls of Carolina's whores because they were hot and they sat down on the MSU bench] that he's an ***hole. We do NOT want him back here.

I would love to have Smoot on the team just like last year when I didnt want him to leave... but after all that he said about the organization, at this point I wouldnt want to see him on the streets of DC.

I'll pass on this headcase who is fragile. If we can get him at a reasonable price, okay but nothing even close to Springs money.

I never heard anything about him possibly being released.Where did you hear that?

Even if we do get Smoot back were right back to where we started. Like you mentioned Springs getting old. Walt Harris not a reliable CB. It just Smoot and Rogers.

I wouldnt take smoot back. He's destroyed his image with organization. I used to like him but ater watching him some more my opinion of him is that he has Deion Sanders' mouth....not skills.

Smoot is way better than Harris so he can take his 27 but Sean Taylor is earning that 21, he was a system cornerback over here, lets bring him back and make him look good.

I would love to have him back, but only at a reasonable price. There is a big difference between Smoot and Deion...Smoot will make a tackle. He played very hard for us, even through some injuries which would have put a lot of guys out. I always thought that he was the better overall corner between he and Bailey, and I wish he could come back.

But then again, I wish he would have never left, because I would still be able to wear my Smoot jersey.

But I have not heard anything as of yet about him being released. We'll see...

OUCH, haha. That's pretty rough. I agree and he does need to shut up. He's not the corner i used to think he was but IF he does get released and is open in free agency i'd be willing to throw some money his way, not a lot but a little. If someone offers him a bigger contract, fine no loss. If not we pick up a decent corner for a small amount of money and make him WORK his way back into the lineup. I think he's better than harris and having rogers and springs start with smoot as a nickel...it'd be a great secondary with taylor and clark behind them.

It's also a bonus if he turns out a decent ball player, which under gibbs and williams (i think theyd teach him to shut up) he probably would, we'd be in good shape once springs and harris start thinking retirement.

This is all assuming, though that he is released. :)

What exactly did Smoot say to upset you guys? I never heard any negative remarks from him, just that he wanted more money than we were willing to pay. He was a favorite of mine and I hated to see him leave. Now I'd love to see him come back.

I used to like him, and I guess if we were to get him I'd be fine with it (not like I would have a choice). You really thought he was better than Champ? I 'm interested in reading your thoughts on this. Also, Deion didnt have to tackle because he would intercept the ball. J/K, I understand what your saying.:silly:

Don't get me wrong, Champ is a hell of a player and on most routes I would take him over most corners in the league. But if you throw a good double move on him, he is toast. We saw that a lot in his last year as a Skin and it has continued with the Broncos.

I think it was a game two years ago against the Bengals that Chad Johnson just abused Champ a few times. And I know, Johnson is a heck of a receiver, but it has happened other times than that, that is just the game that is sticking in my head right now. He takes so many chances that he gets burned badly on occasion. But then again, he does make some big plays like that sometimes but I don't know if that makes up for it.

Smoot does not have the physical tools that Champ does, but I always thought that he was a better fundamental corner. He just did not make as many glaring mistakes as Bailey did. But that's just my opinion.

Hes not getting released by the vikings... I dont know where people make this stuff up.

And in any case, no I wouldnt want him back, and he wouldnt come back no matter how much money we offered(after all the Vikings got him for a tiny fraction more than we offered him).

hell, if the eagles could take back a chastened trotter because it made their team better, we could certainly take back smoot who would be far better than harris... provided he accepted #3 corner money

I would love if Smoot came back. Even though he did take the money and run, the guy was a gamer as long as he was here. I'll never forget him playing with that injured shoulder and coming up and hitting somebody, leading with the shoulder. He played tough and hard and if we could get him back I'd say do it in a New York second.

I would like for the skins' to take back Smoot. I remember when he said that he liked the skins' organization and he felt like they were coming on some stability and that he wanted to be around for the golden years. I would want him back but only at a reasonable price.

Id love to have Smoot back. Let him be one of the best nickelbacks in the league for a year or two untill Springs retires/demotes himself/moves to safety, and then he can have his job back. Hope that was worth the extra cash Freddy!

So what Smoot messed with those girls! He likes to see girls strip and perform sex acts big deal. If you guys seem to hate Smoot for his actions on the love boat then you must want to see Howard Stern hanging from a noose for his actions on his radio show. What about Hugh Heffner or Larry Flint? Damn those guys to hell right? Point is he is a man and what man hasn't watched women strip?

I say if he would want to come back for an amount of money that is not superior to Springs then I am for it. Other than that, ( that referring to--wanting more money than what Springs is getting) and only that, would I not want him on my team.

What do yall think?

Springs is still one of the better cover corners in the NFL and I doubt would pan out as a safety with all the run support that requires.

I would not mind us picking up Smoot to be the 3rd corner IF he is released by the Vikings and IF he is not doing 3-5 for the Love Boat 'incident'. He was a good cover corner when he ws here - he would need to play for a reasonable and cap friendly contract though.

Actually I would be amazed if there was any prison time for that incident when you consider some of the things players have got away with in the past (O.J, Lewis, Irvine etc). That goes double for Taylor.

Keep Smooty away from DC...I did love him when he was here but after seeing that game when Steve Smith Undressed him and left cab fare on top of the pylon Id rather not deal with the headache. Besides the Spirit of Washington nor the Odessy allow stripper out on the Potomac.

Don't see it happening. At least not the way it's being painted here. Coming back at a big discount and a demotion. I think the man's got too much ego and pride to swallow that. Personally, I would like him to come back. He got a little full of himself and carried away with all that money, but he was a pretty solid citizen here. He may have once thought the grass is always greener on the other side, but now is singing "There's no place like home."

Smoot is not coming back! At noooo price. I don't care if he actually paid the Skins, or came for free! Gibbs likes "Character players" that do not "Embarrass the team!" Smoot failed in both areas in his 1st season in Minny. Even Sean Taylor didn't do the 2nd 1. Gibbs wants stand up noble guys. So forget the Smoot, Gardner types. They are not coming back!

Smoot is not going to be released by the Vikings, that would be a huge loss financially. If we did have a chance at him he would want too much money, he left even though we had offered him a 10 million dollar signing bonus, but he wanted 14. Then he only got alittle more than we offered him. :helmet::helmet::helmet:

What kind of drugs are you on dude? Champ Bailey is THE best corner in football, PERIOD. SHUTDOWN, thats all you have to say about Champ. I dont wanna hear about Chad Johnson lighting him up, everybody has a bad day (that was a terrible day). I like both of them, a lot.

What did Smoot say about the organization after he left?

Who says he's being released by the Vikings?

Smoot wont come back here because we already have two starting corners. Smoot isnt going to sit and wait for Springs to retire and I think we will and should stick with Carlos on the other side. Id be surprised if Smoot took a lesser role.

Here is 1 thing he said/did. Also taking advice from Deion.....lol What good advice would Deion and Champ give about "Staying in DC?"

``It's never the player,'' Smoot said. ``It's all about the front office -- and do they want me here. Champ helped me a lot to get through this year, the mental part of it.''

Thank you!! Rogers is going to be way better than Smoot. He has better technique than smoot. Next year he'll be 100 percent with no ankle injury or nothing. Don't forget the dude was play with a banged up ankle the whole year, and a so-so stress fracture!

I could see Smoot being released since he was demoted in Minny to nickel back and well I'd say hes got to be the highest paid nickel back in the league. He had a terrible year and we'll see if Minny thinks he is worth the money. We all know what Smoot can do when he works hard (like he did in his last year with the skins trying to make that $$). I'd take him for cheap contract with incentives but I dont think we have enough cap space to get it done if we wanted to.

Why are us Skins fans debating this? Smoot didn't want to be here! The Skins wanted him, but Smoot wanted out! His character, parting words, and new teams embarrassement will make it next to impossible on the "Smoot returning" issue. This is a moot point people! The Skins have "Moved on" (See Rogers/Springs), so why don't we? :whoknows:
