Gotta stop collecting superstars like baseball cards.
If Sean Taylor is part of the active team next season, I'm happy with blue collar Ryan Clark being next to him.

1) No way Baltimore lets him go.
2) To even think that would could afford him is just absurd, especially considering safety is one of our strongest positions.
Wait a minute, aren't you the guy that said 9/11 wouldn't have happened if Al Gore was president? Step away from the crack pipe.

Hey thanks. Glad you liked my idea. I actually submitted a resume to the Redskins for the GM position, but that damn Cerrato black balled me.

If I'm playing Madden, ESPN or had a team with no cap-ramifications and money was the cheap paper used in Monopoly........sure, fuel up Redskins ONE.
Ed Reed is probably the best (when healthy) player the Ravens have right now and one of the best safties in the NFL now.....NO WAY we can afford him, let's just resign Ryan Clark and get to the playoffs again.
Ravens will re-sign him anyway...........

Vet min for a guy who is one year removed from being Defensive Player of the Year? I mean you can suggest it all you want but If Ed Reed did anything other than laugh at that offer he should have his head examined.
If Sean Taylor has to miss extensive time due to off the field issues then pursuing a safety like Reed would be a must.

He is probably the Best Defensive player on the field in the NFL-- given the opportunity how could you pass him up?
Doubt that the Ravens give him up -- if they do we dont have a first rounder to help entice.

Why does everyone bring up the salary cap? We can get him and Ray Lewis and Randel El while we are at it! We will just pay them under the table (off the books) and the NFL will never know!

I don't see Baltimore losing both Reed and R. Lewis.
I do, however, enjoy imagining him in the secondary with Taylor.

February-13th-2006, 03:08 PM
Forget it - he wants paying big dollars and we do not have the cap space. Plus good as he is we have other areas we need to address before we upgrade at safety where we are solid anyway.

It sucks that we can't even think about signing any big time FA's because of our salary cap situation. Where is all of our money going? Our team isn't exactly filled with superstars. This team needs to manage money better.

Isn't Reed a FS?
Well I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm sure most safeties can play both positions.

The Ravens have had a discussion with the agents for Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed but have failed to reach common ground to produce a new multiyear contract for one of the NFL's best defensive players. The sticking point with Reed is that the Ravens want to make him one of the highest-paid safeties, but he wants to be compensated as one of the league's top defensive players. The difference is millions of dollars.

i got the blockbuster trade of the year...Taylor Jacobs for Ed Reed...straight up. What NFL team wouldnt want a player with the magnitude of Jacobs sitting on their bench or even on the practice squad! i dont see how the ravens could EVER turn this blockbuster trade down. AND when we recoop from the cap hit why dont we just pick up peyton manning or mike vick.

I didn't even read thread, but when I read the title my mind pictured Sean Taylor and Ed Reed both standing in our backfield with Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers playing CB. My head exploded. I picked up the pieces and came back to post this.
Seriously, I think it would be insane, but we have much more imporant needs. Ryan Clark is definitely an adequate SS.

Ed Reed is a typical, selfish Cavein. Over the course of the next season, or two, Sean Taylor will have people saying "Ed who??"

Reed is a great guy and great team player. Word around the camp fire is that the Skins have contacted the Ravens about Reed's availability and some trade rumors started. Those discussion however broke down.

Ed Reed is the real deal. People won't forget his name for a long time to come. It's a damn shame that people like Roy Williams get mentioned in the same groupings as this guy.
As far as him being on the team, of course that would be awesome. But as metioned, theres no way we could afford it.
I hope he gets a good contract though, he's one of those dudes worth every penny you pay him.

Ever since he sealed that game in Philly I have liked Ryan Clark. I also like Pierson and Bowen as reserves. Of course I like Taylor too. Come to think of it, I think we are about set on safeties (provided, of course, that Sean Taylor is not in jail next year).

Not unrealistic if ST ends up in...well.....Actually, it is unrealistic. ST is not getting the money. So, let's all pray ST isn't guilty of the accusations (notice I said "not guilty of accusations" and not "found guilty"). I'm one of the few that believes if he did something stupid, he deserves the 3 years (obviously not 46 years).

I agree, wholeheartedly, that Reed is the real deal. He's a ball-hawking beast. I know that no one will forget his name..(I couldn't find the smart-ass smiley)...but Sean Taylor will be the premier safety in the league and will surpass Reed as the best........IMHO, of course!

I think this is a great idea. We could have Reed and ST as our starters and maybe there is some way we could pry Roy Williams from Dallas as a reserve for us. :40oz:

I woul dto see him on our team simply because of what is happening to S.T. he would easily take over for Sean.

Ed Reed will want Champ money...possibly more. I cannot see us being able to afford that at all. No way no how. Of course our D would be absolutely sick! But those are just dreams that are slowly fading away...
