Sure, Gibbs is running things, we have Saunders directing what looks to be a much improved offense, finally have a QB of the future, our defense looks awesome still, and we finally look ready to contend for a Super Bowl...
But...
We need to survive the cap. Is Sean Taylor going to be here next year? Is Jason Campbell any good? Can we pressure the QB EVER? What's going to happen to Ramsey? Campbell or Brunell? Who do we draft? Can we move the ball now under Saunders?
Things are looking up for us, but I'm not letting down my guard for a feel-good offseason just yet.... or maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Sean Taylor will more than likely be here next year. We don't know if Jason Campbell will be any good, but we also don't even know if he'll be starting. We'll be working on our QB Pressure by hopefully picking up a DE in the offseason.
Can we move the ball under Saunders? I don't know. I guess we'll find out in Game 1, won't we?

The only real questionable thing in my mind is Taylor's trial because that's the one thing our team has no real control over.

In all seriousness. We've been looking at "Cap Hell" for the past couple of years and nothing changes we still go out and get players. We just don't do it on the grand scheme as we used to. We get more need than want. I wouldn't say that you're being pessimistic just not basking in the glow of a new OC and the potential.

There are questions for every team going into every season. I, as a skins fan always hope for the best outcome, but deep down have a feeling of how likley that best outcome might be. The last 2 seasons are the first seasons in a long time where my expectations started to meet my hope. Its all due to Gibbs. Can things go wrong? Sure. Just as they can to any other team, but we are better equipped now to deal with problems than we have been since Gibbs was here last time.
Joe Gibbs has done one consistent thing in every endeavor he has undertaken. Thats build championship organizations. Looking at his history I would be more surprised if it didn't happen than if it did.

I think the only issue that will be valid is Sean Taylor.
There's at least the chance that he'll be done after his trial.
However, everything else is minimal in my opinion.
Will Jason Campbell be any good? I sure hope so, but we expect to improve on an offense that got us to the NFC Divisional round this year...with Brunell. Granted, things don't alway progress in a linear way like that, but everything points to us being very good next year if we have to play the known commodity in Brunell. If Campbell can give us more than Mark, that's gravy.
Will we survive the cap? I'm not going to spend time on this until we actually experience a season during which it's an issue. The cap may have caused us to cut the occassional player from time to time, but it hasn't ever really made us reshape our roster and I don't believe it will again this year. If I'm wrong, then this is a big concern.
Can we pressure the QB? I don't care. I'm willing to assume that our D will stay around the same level as last year's (and the year before). Our D (with NO improvements) is a championship-caliber D.
What will become of Ramsey and Lavar? I would love to see us get good value for Ramsey and keep Lavar. However, I don't think either player makes or breaks us next season.
Jason or Mark at QB? Refer to my first paragraph about Campbell. I think this only matters in a good way. If our coaches think that Campbell can give us more than Brunell, imagine what that really means...it's only a good thing considering our team under Brunell advanced to the playoffs and was hitting its stride late in the year before injuries hampered its performance.
Can we improve under Saunders? No reason to believe we can't. He's very good at what he does and I'm assuming we're going to be adding what he does best to what Gibbs and company do best. I don't see his addition having any negative impact at all. The worst I believe we should expect is to NOT improve...but we won't regress.
So, all in all, I see only one question you raised having a huge impact on this coming season. Those are all valid concerns heading into the off season, I just don't believe they will be all that serious.

i dont blame you for being pessimistic. i too am kind of pessimistic. scared of what happened after 99, although i believe gibbs wont do that. we always seem to make the offseason exciting in some way or another. i cant wait to see the answers to all of these questions

I find your lack of faith disturbing.... :)
The pieces are falling into place, we have great leaders that know what to do. I'll just enjoy the ride, sure, a lot of wrong things can happen, but this team is headed in the right direction.

Thanks for now allowing me to enjoy a season when we advanced into the 2nd round of the playoffs. But honestly, you seem to forget who is running the ship. Whichever decision is right for the team, is the one Joe Gibbs will make. He rarely, if ever, makes wrong decisions regarding the Skins and that is why i am confident. All these decisions are tough ones, but its not nerv turner or steve sputterer out their its hall of famer Joe Gibbs with his hall of fame coaching staff

Alright but I'm willing to speculate that none of you could have been as optimistic at the beginning of this past season as you are now (don't even pull that blind faith crap). The Skins showed heart that cannot be bought, winning, and showing that you can make the playoffs in a dire situation means more than salary caps, rookie QBs, and potential signings. We'll see waht happens but there is no way I'm gonna feel apprehensive about this next season.

The only thing i'm not to comfortable on is the Campbell situation. I hope it isn't a Sheli thing....They start 5-1 and finish 6-10 (what idiots!!!!).

the fact that it is a quiet offseason is one of the better things, not contraversy, no problems, the skins are cruisin thru the offseason, and i believe it will continue

To settle this:
1. Taylor will be here next year
2. Campbell is capable of starting, then again so are both Brunell and Ramsey, thats right, Ramsey.
3. I think Phillip Daniels was getting into the swing of things late in the season, I dont know what was clicking but he finally put up the numbers we want out of him. I think we should replace Wynn with a more talented pass rusher but then again you dont get much more solid than him in run support do you?
4. Lavar will be back, Holdman was uninspiring, Lavar is working out his deal for less money so the no-bs coaching staff doesnt can his ass, and for once he has some consistency reaching an uncharted area- the same coach for 3 years in a row. I think he will bounce back in a big way.
5. Can we move the ball under Saunders? Maybe, we know we can move the ball under Gibbs so I dont know whats the big deal, Saunders is talented to say the least and his input and coaching will be a boost. Just look at the KC offense. Someone designed alot of plays for a good tight-end, lets see what they can devise for Cooley.
6. Our WR's are the only thing that concern men but then again they dont really. We will get ourselves under the cap, get rid of Jacobs, and I think that with whoever Gibbs brings in, or if we have Patten again, we will get better production out of the passing game.
