Actually, there ARE people who know. They work in the Front Office. And they're not telling what the number is.

We currently are sitting at 3 mill over the cap, assuming it is what they say it is, 104 million. That does not count any restructures, bonus proration, and cuts. Gaurunteed cuts that we know will happen for sure include Harris, Bowen, Raymer, Tupa, and Noble.
Those cuts, counting their cap replacements at minimum, means they will put us at roughly 3 mill under the cap. Assuming they cut NOONE else, that means expect to save many millions more in bonus proration and restructures that will be coming.

How did we go from $113 (after the LA buyout) to just $3 mil over, or $107, without considring any restructures, bonus proration, and cuts. With the CBA extended did our salary figure for the start of the 2006 season change?

I've seen a number of people mention throughout the day mention the Redskins' expected salary cap savings as a result of contract restructure...as I understand it, the veterans who "stepped up" restructured ONLY as a contingency...that is, if the CBA was not approved.
So, with a new CBA, the restructured contracts are null & void.
There probably will be bonus prorations in order to give us more salary cap room, but I don't know which players would likely agree to that. I would think almost all of the salary cap room that will be created by the FO will be through the expected cuts that we all know of (Bowen, Harris, etc.). I would defer to those in the know (ART, et al) as to whether or not that would equal more than a few million.

Well, everyone is acting like we have a lot of room after the cuts, so the only thing I can think of is that the salary charge for the Redskins dropped with the new CBA, due to current contracts structuring and therefore the total salry charged against the cap is now lower. If someone can confirm this I would appreciate it.

We will still be over the cap, I am sure, but at least this is a bit more workable than if the CBA had not been approved. There will still be cuts. Go SKINS!

We weren't at 113 after the LA buyout. People thought we were just over 115, but Clayton kept reporting that we were 17 over the old cap (94.5), not 20+, so figure 112-ish. We saved over 4 million with the LA buyout, putting us just under 108. The new cap is 104ish, so we are just under 4 over. Our cuts alone bring us under the cap. We can save a ton of money on restructures. I expect us to be at least 10 million under the cap, after we make our moves.

The cap is 102 according to Mort, so we have still trim some.

all the restructures will be voided, and I don't know what deals are in place now a cba is approved... or how many players will be cut.... etc

If the cap is 102M I think you have to figure 2 or 3M for increased minimums and tender offers. One plus for the Skins is they have about 5M of incentives in contracts that are there to meet the 30% rule which are canceled upon an extension so that's about 5M of extra space.
BTW....For the original poster who is "uniformed" thank you for your service to our country.

Didn't our cap number go down automatically as soon as the new CBA was approved, because while without a new CBA we were limited to pro-rating certain things (e.g., signing bonuses) out over 4 years (or something like that) due to applicable provisions in the 'old' CBA to take effect if it expired without a new CBA, the approval of a new CBA meant those same things could now be pro-rated over a longer period of time (7 years or something like that?)? I thought that kicker was one of the reasons, along with the possibly lower cap of $94.5M, that drove the contingent restructuring.... Huh? Whozeawhatta?
Not sure.

Here is my uneducated guess at the exact figure we will get to. That figure is...............whatever the FO determines we need it to be to make the moves we want to make. If you haven't figured it out yet, the FO is a cap diety.
