Whew! WB...look...they signed your most pressing need....

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Former Cincinnati tight end Matt Schobel signed a five-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday.

Schobel caught 90 passes for 938 yards and nine touchdowns in four seasons with the Bengals. He's expected to play behind starter L.J. Smith.

Schobel is the third free agent signed by the Eagles in the past week. Linebacker Shawn Barber got a one-year deal last week, and defensive end Darren Howard signed a $30 million, six-year contract on Monday.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Schobel was drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2002 NFL draft. He started 10 games as a rookie, but only three since. Schobel caught 18 passes for 193 yards and one TD last season.

Schobel has experience as a holder on extra points and field goals, making him more valuable should the Eagles release longtime holder and backup quarterback Koy Detmer. He also played special teams and was a backup long snapper in

Basically what he's a younger Chad Lewis. Hope he works out like Lewis did because Chad made 2 Pro Bowls for us.

id rather have Chad Lewis (even though he's older) but thats my take.

I guess since he is younger and plays ST is a good signing..

Chad Lewis was the slowest player in the NFL after he returned from injury last season.

I know. I misspoke. I MEANT to say that number 2 TE was the worst player on the team last year, not biggest need.

Thats the real reason they signed him, its hard to find a good holder nowadays.

Hey, read the first line of the story. The signing happened today.

Considering what happened with Bentley, I wouldn't put my faith in announcements coming from Eagles land...

If you're only contribution is to throw a grenade, do us a favor and don't post.

Yeah...it may have been common knowledge that it was going to happen, but the thread you just posted had no link to confirm the signing. It was just a rumor at that point.

Number5, please don't make us lump you in with a Cowtroll who can't read...please read the entire article before trying to make someone look silly. You're already behind a little with your broken calculator antics from yesterday...;)

Is this one better?

The Cinny newspaper had mentioned it on the 11th. It has been on the EMB since Saturday morning and as you might have expected, it caused a serious stir. So while yes, he was signed today......the fact that Cinny papers had already reported that it was done kinda makes the statement "old news" valid, even though the last time a newspaper reported an Eagles signing, they weren't even close.

The actual report of his eventual signing is found in here http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/ which is dated March 11th.

So again, while they "officially" announced the signing today, Mark Curnutte had already announced it.

Oh...and 1 + 1 = 2

I missed it...it'll end up over here anyway.

I'm thinking the Eagles fans are a bit testy these days. So far, only one good signing and a bunch of fossils. I'm not sure if it's arrogance with their FO and AR or the tight pocketbook, really.

They've had success plugging in pieces in the past, but I'm not seeing much quality in replacements. And Runyan is still hanging out there.

#4...I can call you that now that numbers are an issue with you...does it really matter? It was an AP piece that was two minutes old when I grabbed it. I'd think you'd be glad to see an official signing.

But, I suppose being defensive these days is what Philly fans do...

I'm really not sure why you're making this an issue, Number5. Its clear he didn't officially sign until today, so in essence, its not old news. Bentley was a sure-fire Eagle as well, and all Eagle fans know how that one turned out.

Here, ESPN is reporting the signing took place today as well:

I'll take ESPN over some random blog on Google blogger...

See, now if I was defensive, I'd say, YO MAMA CHUMP!

But I'm not, I just hate when clowns try to be cute like Care Bears by recycling old or known news. If you actually read the board.....you would have seen the threads about this already. The fact that you posted this article shows that you have a talent for "google" yet at the same time, the fact that you failed to notice the other threads regarding this topic shows that you lack the talent to "search".

I suppose that these days, being "offensive" is what tr1 does.....and not what most Redskins fans do......

The stadium rarely concerns itself with Eagles news...if so, it's part of another story that is germaine to Redskins news.

Anyway, have a nice day...I know it's frustrating being an Eagles fan.

tr -- the Bentley snub and the Skins FA spending spree have frustrated and angered Westy so much that he has lost the ability to have an intelligent, unbiased discourse about football. I have placed him on ignore, and suggest you do the same.

I'm giving him 2 weeks to cool off...hopefully by then he'll be back on the right side of the troll border by then...:2cents:
