Do you think Portis will break the All Time rushing record.

There is pretty much no chance.
If anyone is breaking the rushing record, it will be Larry Johnson (1750 yds. in 9 starts).

umm... im a hardcore skins fan... but that might be a little too much. i doubt he can do that, but you never know i guess. its not really a priority for me, i prefer the skins win the lombardi then every player break a record

I would love to see Portis break it, and I know he could do it, but we upgraded our WR for a reason...I dont think Portis will get enough carries to get it..But I do expect Portis to have a 1,700+ yard season..

No. I am not saying he cannot break the record, it is just that Gibbs will spread around the carries, giving many to Betts, so that Portis will have less wear and tear in years to come. If our offense is good enough to get Portis the rushing record, that means that our passing game would also be good, which in turn would most likely mean we would be winning games more convincingly. If we are up in games, Gibbs will not risk Portis' durability by giving him extra carries just to reach a record. He would instead give the ball to Betts in non-clutch situations. Plus, if we are winning, Gibbs would want Portis well rested and not banged up for the playoffs, all the more reason to give away some of Portis' carries.

Agreed. Larry Johnson had an amazing year for only 9 starts. However, their offense could show signs of struggling without Al Saunders and Dick Vermeil.

I would say no. It is sooo tough for a RB to stay healthy these days and I believe he would have to remain Injury free his entire career and have the best O-line during those years. Our weakest link on O-line is Dockery and Portis likes to cut it back to the left where Dock is.
If it happens, I will be the first to admit I was wrong.

I think that Larry Johnson is a great running back but i dont see Herm keeping that offense in the top 5 of the nfl. Did he not run a west coast offense in NYJ? However, the answer to the orginial poster, CP is an amazing back but i can guarntee you that if cp can stay healthy for his career, and the track he is on. He will roughly amassed neearly 13-14K years before the age of 30. I dont see him breaking Eric Dikerson rushing record for an entire season. I think the redskins will have a great rushing attack but i expect Al Saunders to utlize Betts and Cartwright and keep Portis healthy for the Superbowl.

He definetly does. He has gotten off to a better start than barry sanders, emmitt smith, walter payton and jerome bettis. This is something that I have already thought about.

Reasons why Portis wont break it...
1. Has to take plays off on the sideline cuase he runs outta breath often(Weed anybody?)
2. Might not be able to play that long if he keeps getting torn up the way hes going.
Could he break it though? Yes look at his age and stats. Hes a lock for the hall of fame but he will have to win a super bowl which I think he will.

I don't see him getting 22+ carries per game like he did over the last two years (he'll still be a bit of a durable work-horse) and I can't imagine him getting about 6.5 yards per carry either.

Have you ever watched a Herm Edwards coached team. The only reason he has enjoyed success is because he inherited a playoff caliber team from Parcells. He is easily one of the worst coaches in the league. The funny thing is, he is inheriting another situation where he can not lose. This team will be good for a couple years until Herm has had an opportunity to run it into the ground. LJ is in a better position to break the rushing record, but I trust Herm to mess it up. If you think Herm is a good coach you are wrong. Gibbs will make portis better. Herm will make LJ worse.

He has the talent but the ball will be spread around too much for that to happen.
