Greg Oden (http://mb22.scout.com/fouinsiderfrm14.showMessage?topicID=58774.topic)
This guy is going to be the next dominant center in the NBA. Could you imagine having this guy anchor our frontcourt for the next 10+ years with Arenas running the point. :notworthy Call me crazy but I would absolutely be fine with this team tanking it next year to get a shot at drafting this guy. Of course, it is a draft lottery and there is no definate chance the Wiz would get the number 1 pick if they did have the worst record, but if I could be assured of the Wiz getting the 1st pick next year, I'd beg and beg for us to tank.

Haha no he is far from Kwame Brown. He actually has to go to college for a year with that new rule in effect. The guy looks like he is in his 30's already. He is a monster. New link.

I never believe in "tanking" a season.

Oden isn't leaving after his 1st year. He has always wanted to go to college. He is majoring in mathematics and is very serious about his education.

Would Greg Oden possibly think of going to the NBADL?
They just lowered the agefor signing a contract with the NBADL to 18 a few days ago.
Is that going to be the backdoor for people like him?

No, he is interested in attending college. Again, the kid is majoring in mathematics, not a major choice for most college athletes.
However, I do believe that he does have the option. He wouldn't make very much money from the D-League, but he could make a ton in shoe endorsements.
Most mediots will tell you Oden is 1 and done(since he would likely be the #1 pick this year, as well as the next), but people close to the situation think he will be in Columbus for at least 2 years.

He kind of looks like Robert Parrish in his mid-30's

Oden would be foolish to not come out after this season at Ohio State (assuming that he's still the #1 pick). The first overall pick is guaranteed $12+ Million over three years. To pass on that kind of money knowing that your stock only drops the longer you pass on the NBA (because NBA players usually peak at 26), is stupid regardless of how important you think your education is. He can go back to school later. He wont always be guaranteed that kind of money.

NBA players peak at 26??? What are you talking about? I guess Kobe peaked in 2004. He sure seems to be on the downside of his career. Dirk Nowitzki peaked last year as well. Steve Nash peaked in 2000. Antwan Jamison peaked in 2002, yet made his 1st All-Star team in 2004. The list goes on and on. Jordan, Barkely, Bird, and Magic all had MVP years in their 30's.
Oden will be guaranteed the money whenever he comes out, be it next year or the year after that. Playing in college when you are a young man (with your best friend no less) is priceless. He will be the big fish in a (relatively) small pond. Oden is smart enough to recognize his offensive skill set is unrefined at the very least, and the playing in college is the best play to improve your skills. The NBA is a grind, a real job. Practices are rarely focused on improving your skills.
You could be right, the money may be too much to resist next June. However, it be contrary to everything the young man has said and done to this point
