Just curious, as there seems to be a lot of dedicated Lost viewers here and I just got to talking w/ some friends of mine that also watch it closely. I heard they will be doing another season of the show. How long can they seriously keep an interesting plot line going?
I mean, the show's original premise was piecing together the events leading to a plane crash on an island and has erupted into a conspiracy-driven series of intertwined ficticious organizations and complicated subplots.
What are your thoughts?

I think next week will go a long way to answering your question. Looks like a lot will be revealed and that in turn should give some clue has to how long the mysteries can/will run. It will be interesting to see how many new mysteries are introduced.

The last two episodes have definitely got back to the story line. The weeks prior (that big con episode was pretty lame) really didn't seem to go anywhere.
I love the show, and Season one was tight. If anybody who has never watched the show rents or buys season one, you won't be disapointed.
That said, Its beginning to be like the X-files or Twin Peaks. One answer with three new question every week.
I think through next season it should be wrapped up.
Best line from last night from Sawyer, "If were goin to war, I want someone from the crimson red.." or something like that. Great episode!

I've read somewhere (Lord only knows where) that the writers and producers of Lost had no idea, prior to the first season, what type of success they were going to have. That the entire 2nd season is actually a "filler season" as they prepare to go back to their roots for season #3. If that's really the case, I can't wait for next year.

It'll likely go seven seasons, IMO, and they have already confirmed that they have enough to script through about 5 seasons' worth of material. Of course, it's all subject to the capricious whims of the network, but as long as the viewers are there they'll find a way to keep it alive.
Although I think it will be hard to keep that entire cast intact for much longer.

I've heard a rumor, that Lost will come to a conclusion at the end of Season 3. Potentially, this could be the greatest thing ever.
24 should have been the first show ever to tell a self contained story, and disappear forever, but 24 dropped the ball. So, Lost get's the opportunity to be the first!

If they can keep it going for 5 seasons, so be it. They are going to reveal how the plane crashed next week, so it seems like they have something more in store for season 3.
I definitely do think though that ABC didn't realize the success of the show. Also, the addition of the internet stuff "hanso foundation" and all that is just peaking up. I know it's a marketing ploy, but dizzam.

Right before he said that, I knew he was going to say something about it...I burst out laughing when he did.

I was gonna say I though they would need at least 4 seasons even if they cut out all the little filler eps(which they wouldn't do).
They just have so many story lines that they even now still haven't picked up on. Many of them could be used for good filler eps in the next couple seasons.
I want them to go as long as the plot line stays good. If that's only 3 seasons, then fine, if its 8 seasons, then fine, but if the plot is only good for 5 seasons and they drag it on for 9, I will be disapointed, or if they end it after 3 and it could have been good for 4-5 seasons, I will be even more disapointed.

Probably like most good series they will go 1 or 2 seasons longer then they should cause the network is getting great ratings on it, even if the story lines suffer.

I heard 5-6 seasons. Steven King who is a big fan of the show said "don't drag the show out too long. As soon as you're done with the story...END IT!"
