Never really listened to Nevermore. If you say "bow to the mastery" they must be pretty good. :) I'll check em out.

Start with tracks from "Dead Heart in a Dead World". Their stuff prior to that is moodier, gothier, and more progressive. Their stuff since then is simply the state of the art for heavy metal. Their new disc "This Godless Endeavor" just weighs a ton, so to speak, almost too heavy for some of their older fans. Itunes has all of it.

Now if she does that while listening to metal, you've got the best of both worlds. :D
Edit: Also, there is a new rule for this thread in that Scott Stapp fan club members are not allowed!
:D Jus messin with ya!

Neither band can be taken lightly. Both are at the top of their field. Akerfeldt is a genius!!

He cannot and he may not. That guy Tremonti is a pretty good guitar player, though.

1. Opeth > Nevermore.
2. The Shadows Fall single is great! I've been waiting for some new stuff for a while from them. But you all know this upcoming CD is pretty much B-sides right? They're just trying to finish off a contract requirement of releasing x amt of albums so they can leave or something. look it up, too lazy to find a link.

These guys are the flag bearers for old-school metal. It's all there. The Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Pantera, and Metallica influences. I don't think these guys have really reached their full potential yet, and when they do it's gonna be awesome. I've really been sold on them since I heard "Destroyer of Senses." I hope the new album does well, and DONAIS is a one hell of a guitarist. His solo's are top notch.
Vocalist Brian Fair's thoughts on the new album
"This album is meant to be a companion piece to The War Within. It contains six originals songs written during those sessions, newly re-recorded versions of all the B-sides that were previously unavailable in the U.S. as well as a few cover songs for good measure."

does this documentary actually cover real metal? I've been watching VH1's shows on and off, and when I see AC/DC or The Scorpions on there, it kinda annoys me. I know some will make the case for Hair Metal, but AC/DC? I like them, but I never thought them as metal.

This argument is as old as Metal itself. I was watching the also excellent "Heavy" The Story of Metal yesterday on Vh1, and I believe it was Eddie Trunk who put it best.
There were basically two templates laid out in the 70's for which way to go. Black Sabbath was one, and Led Zeppelin was the other. The darker, scarier stuff is accredited to coming from Sabbath, i.e. early Metallica, Slayer, Testament, the whole NWOBHM thing.
While Zeppelin is more considered the first "Hard Rock" band. Spawning acts like AC/DC, Van Halen, and eventually the overblown Sunset strip "glam metal" thing.
I've always tended to associate the word "metal" with the more darker, anti-social type of heavy music, so I pretty much agree with you, AC/DC, and Scorpions were not "metal." they were hard rock. Although, any documentary about metal is going to include groups like those because there is such a fine line between a hard rock band, and a heavy metal band. The argument about what constitutes a metal band, will continue for as long as the music is around.

yeh, that's what I figgered PainKiller. They do a good job citing some bands such as Anthrax, Metallica, Iron Maiden. But when most is what I consider "hard rock" it just annoys me.
The whole Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin sides definitely makes sense. I like Zeppelin and I can see how some roots of metal are there, but they do not have the feel like Black Sabbath.
