It's hard to predict Rookie of the Year...and the Rookie of the Year won't necessarily have the best career out of his draft. I have the impression that Mario Williams is a bit of a project so I voted no on him winning the award. I don't think Rocky McIntosh will get it either since I think he won't (need to?) be on the field enough as a rookie to get the award. If Sean Taylor and Carlos Rogers didn't start off their rookie seasons for Gregg Williams as starters, McIntosh probably won't either.

Check out the list of the last 15 Defensive Rookies of the Year, most have had above average to excellent careers:
1991 Mike Croel Denver Broncos Linebacker
1992 Dale Carter Kansas City Chiefs Cornerback
1993 Dana Stubblefield San Francisco 49ers Defensive tackle
1994 Tim Bowens Miami Dolphins Defensive tackle
1995 Hugh Douglas New York Jets Defensive end
1996 Simeon Rice Arizona Cardinals Defensive end
1997 Peter Boulware Baltimore Ravens Linebacker
1998 Charles Woodson Oakland Raiders Cornerback
1999 Jevon Kearse Tennessee Titans Defensive end
2000 Brian Urlacher Chicago Bears Linebacker
2001 Kendrell Bell Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker
2002 Julius Peppers Carolina Panthers Defensive end
2003 Terrell Suggs Baltimore Ravens Linebacker
2004 Jonathan Vilma New York Jets Linebacker
2005 Shawne Merriman San Diego Chargers Linebacker

Five of the last six have been Linebackers. If it follows this trend I think AJ Hawk or another starting linebacker will find a way to claim the title.

Like swaroop said, I can't fathom McIntosh starting the entire season, seeing as neither Carlos Rogers or Sean Taylor did.

Reggie Bush... ESPN hypes him up so much, says he can do anything, why not

I would have to guess that it will be someone you really havent heard much about in the draft.. on of the mid to late first round guys.....that makes a big impact...

I like him, but I agree it will be LB. Hawk or Greenway

I think Hawk will be.

I agree with the guys who have said Hawk. He seems to me to be the most "NFL-ready" prospect. However, the 3-4 guys who are converted DE's now playing OLB seem to making an easy transition into the NFL (Merriman and Suggs). Anyone who fits this profile this year?

The Defensive ROY Award Canidates:

Mario Williams
Roger McIntosh
Jimmy Williams
Ernie Simms
Micheal Huff
Kimberion Wimbley
Haloti Ngata

My DROY Award would have to most likely go to Ernie Simms. The only way he dosnt win it is if he blows his own head off playing so hard which is very possible so actually im going with Kimberion Wimbley from the Cleveland Browns.

Kimberion Wimbley will be a beast in this league and I think this Draft Class holds the future at Linebackers. Kimberion Wimbley, Ernie Simms, A.J Hawk, and Manny Lawson.

In the end it doesnt matter, Williams will still be considered a bust unless he gets 20+ sacks, 4 picks, casues 8 fumbles, recovers 5 of them and a few defensive TD's. Even if he does all that, Reggie Bush would have to either not play or play REALLY REALLY BAD for Williams to be considered a better player in the publics eyes.

I think Mario is going to be a great player:2cents: , Id love to have him on the 'Skins, but he is always going to be known as the guy the Texans took instead of Bush.

AJ Hawk is going to start from day 1, and hes going to be a beast behind the DE Gbaja-Biamila.

AJ Hawk is who I think will win DROY...but KGB stinks. His role has been greatly diminished recently and is a total liability out there.

I think its going to be either Jimmy Williams or Mario Williams.

Rocky Mcintosh is a more likely winner of rookie of the year. Lbs are always around the ball.

i think he will be amazing, but not immediately. he has to learn how to take on double teams and hone his skills better. he is an immense talent but needs to clean up a few loose ends to be dominant IMO
