He was injured all of last season, so his value could be low. He's also a RFA so it may take a lot to get him.
At 6'11'' he would make a great finesse C for us. Seems like he'd be a good fit on our offense. Don't know how good of a defender he is though.

we dont need him if he can't block shots, get tough boards and play D. not worth the contract it would take IMO

Man, if we could get him, and the Docs think his injury will not predicate future problems, I would be real happy.
edit: Until Twan's contract is up, we are never going to be a player in the FA market tho, we might as well try and trade for young talent 23, 24 years and younger, go for athletic ability and instincts, then we can sign them to whatever we want.

I have suggested trading Jarvis for Nene about 2-billion times so far.
But I am now kind of thinking Jarvis would contribute more. hmm

edit: Where did you get that picture for your sig AisGod? It is tight.
I really want to trade Jarvis and Haywood to the Hornets for JR Smith. I just like that kid... I think he would fit in really well and we could get him young and sign him long term if he pans out... He has everything Jarvis has, but better handles and athleticism - and he actually makes more shots IMO but that is debatable.

I got the pic from a Sports Illustrated article about him bowling. It came out right when the playoffs started.
I just worry that JR Smith couldn't get off the bench on a lottery team. You can't tell me that Kirk Snyder was really the reason behind benching this dude, who is supposedly super talented.
When Jarvis was healthy, he played.

edit: Yeah Jarvis played, but he is like what 25? 26? He still was barely getting on the court and can't take the ball to the rack at all off the bounce. On top of that he isn't nearly the sharpshooter (yet anyway) he was tauted as in college.
True dat true dat. But did you see him play his rookie year? His offensive game is so Jordanesque its scary. He tore us up 2 seasons ago. Just OWNED Larry hughes. And you have to remember that for 80% of the season the Hornets were a playoff team, a DAMN good team. By the end of the year I think JR wasn't even talking to Byron Scott anymore, but I haven't really heard anything really bad about JR, just that Scott didn't like him.
Scott said some really mean things in the media about JR Smith. I think JR should have gone to college, but too late for that. He is gonna be dumped bargain bin style, and Eddie is just the coach to turn him out - that is if the people smarter than me decide it is worth it.
The kid is only turning 20 this summer. Sometimes you have to look at them as rookies coming in, like how the Lakers looked Kwame. Remember - Gilbert had real problems with his coach also in GS. Still played tho.
And Kirk Snyder played really really well for a while.
I would still really like Josh smith though - does anyone know how ATL is planning on using both him and Marvin Williams? So damn similar, but I would take the more defensive oriented Josh Smith - I just think if we could plug him into Jared's role on this team... damn we would be awesome.

Spearhead, I am enjoying your contributions.
Although it does seem like you have a slight obsession with players' birth certificates ;)
I doubt the Hawks are going to give up Smith for anything other than someone special. Anyone who can get 3.5 blocks from the 2guard position is no joke. Plus he can leap like a mother (I thought he was going to nail that behind the free throw line jam at the allstar game, but he for some weird reason pulled off... hmmm)
I think everyone wants to see J.R. freed from the shackles of Byron's doghouse. I just feel like Jordan-esque is a bit of an overstatement of his talents.
Two dunk contest dudes...

JR Smith has a ton of talent and would fit in nicely here as a backup 2 who can start in case of injury.
I don't think he'd really be a headcase here. The Hornets area young team with no leadership. REMEMBER, Jason Kidd got into spats with Byron Scott, too. Scott just isn't a very good leader.
Now I'm not saying Jordan is, but we have guys on this team that can set him straight; Jamison, Butler, Daniels...

Yeah I didn't mean he was as good as Jordan, just that his game at taking it to the hoop reminds me of Jordan more than any other player xcept maybe wade. That is more of a style thing. I know I should have been more careful breaking out the "J" word, I hate hearing announcers do it all the time.
Yeah I don't think Josh Smith (though he really played more of a 3 and 4 position last year after putting on beef) is a viable option either... but they sure do have a lot of swingmen on that team. I just think he is the odd man out because Marvin was the #2 over all pick and all. Who knows.
As far as the birth certificates, the reason is this, I am looking at our team, we are young with a couple of solid vets (twan and AD) who are about as character guys as you can get in this league, I lived through 15 YEARS of us trading away for aging "names" with bloated contracts and absolutely no upside.
Eddie's #1 skill IMO is his player devolpment, especially younger players with potential, and I would like to see us take advantage of that while we still have 2-3 years before Gil is in the peak of his prime. When a player shows a lot of talent and abiltiy to compete at an age under 21 years old, it bodes well for the future 9 times out of 10, because of the physical maturity that often comes along with the next year or two. Then under 25 years old, often a refinement of the game can be expected with a work ethic and good coaching. Those are just general rules of thumbs I've heard and are never 100%, but when JR Smith is 6'6" and 224 pounds at 19 years old, and we could get him? I think he would most likely improve even if he hardly worked at it.
I'm probably over thinking it, but what the hell else is this board good for? :D
As far as the "dunk contest" thing, I really don't care about that, but what I do care about is having at least one swing man on our team (or one more counting Caron) with upper tier athletic talent who can FINISH. We are sorely missing that IMO, it would take a lot of heat off of Arenas.
edit: Also, when was the last time Jarvis made SIX three pointers in a game? JR smith made SIX in a game last year, at the beginning of the season when JR was still starting next to Paul, before Byron said he wasn't "Playing any babies" That is amazing, considering his Jumper was just decent when he was 18, then at 19 to display that kind of shooting. I just can't believe the hornets really are going to get rid of him, but it sounds like they are.
