View Full Version : Eagles TC Observations....

I went to the EMB and gathered information from several of the top guys up there (PhillyPhreak54, NCEaglesfan, and from TC Live) to report to you fellas som of the things going on with the Birds through the first few days of camp....
So far from PhillyPhreak54..as of yesterdays practices....
DEFENSE NEWS....
1. The first thing I have to say is this; Matt McCoy was all over the damn place today. I know its early and all of that stuff, but this guy blew up five plays in a row and was constantly around the ball in live drills. If he wasn't killing the ball carrier, he was nailing his blocker. His pads were poppin' all morning long. I forget who mentioned this to me, but one of the people in our group was standing by McCoy when he came off the field and Spagnuolo asked him how he felt and all he said was "I want more". He was the starter at the WLB spot all day......GOOD NEWS FOR US EAGLES FANS!
14. Sheldon Brown is a lockdown corner. In almost every matchup I saw in 7-7's he either jammed his guy off the route, guided them out of bounds or cut off the route. He looked very good.....HOPEFULLY HE'LL GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES!
OL NEWS from Phreak...
15. Shawn Andrews looks like a totally different person. We all knew he was fast even when he weighed 385. But now that he has slimmed down he is a man beast out there. He gets his hands on guys and neutralizes them.
16. Jamaal Jackson, as we all saw last year, is a presence at the C position. His wide body allows the A gaps to not be given up as easy as Hank gave them up. He is much better, it appears, at the C-QB exchange too. He was the #1 C from the jump today.
17. Todd Herremans looked good too. He's tall and that stands out in the huddle, but he also has one heckuva mean streak. I was trying to watch his hands and arms today to see how he'd adapt inside but could not get too much of a view of that. I will watch more tomorrow.
18. Runyan is his same ol' self....nasty. He goes to the whistle. On one play he launched himself at a defender who was watching the pile and if the defender hadn't have moved at the last second he would've been DOA.
RUNNING BACK NEWS.....
23. Bruce Perry is a favorite of mine. That guy can flat out hit the freakin hole. He is bulked up but he still runs low to the ground with his shoulders square and delivers a blow. I am rooting for him big time.
24. Ryan Moats has bulked up too. His upper body is noticably thicker and that guy gets lost behind the OL. The defense cannot find him when they run between the tackles. He finds the smallest of creases in the defense and gets through them with a quickness. His pass receiving skills are seemingly better too.
32. Correll Buckhalter looked very good. Other than his little limp that he has when jogging (and he had that last year too) he is cool. When he's running full out you cannot tell his knees contain parts that could be used in the space shuttle. The only blemish on CBuck's day was he dropped a swing pass from Donny Mac. He had a very sweet catch down the left sideline as he went in motion out of the backfield.
Again this is in regards to yesterday..... (Peter King was at practice..though he had some doubts about the RBs, he liked the DL and OL and thinks LJ Smith will make the Pro Bowl.)
People are very high on Hank Basket (including McNabb) and there is a very good chance that with Bloom and Avant injured, he has a chance to move way up on the depth chart. It has been stated several times, though in numerous ways that he and McNabb have had a good relationship since they trained in ARZ. He along with Brown, Gaffney, and Westbrook, have been McNabb's favorite targets.
Word has it that the Eagles have found their MLB of the future in Omar Gaither from UT. He dazzled folks with several open field tackles including one on Westbrook in the flat. Another Eagles rookie on the defense is Chris Gocong who is being called the HEIR APPARENT AT SLB. Many are impressed with his size, but more are with his speed and ability thus far to learn the defense.
Thus far, the three most impressive players have been Howard, Baskett, and Reggie Brown.
I would have put McNabb on the list, but he is what we expect.....with on glaring difference, he is running more and said in his PC (which I was listening to at work today while the store was slow) that he wants to run more to put more pressure on the defenses in the league. He felt that the didn't respect that part of his game anymore which he believes will come back to bit everyone in the arse!

Bruce Perry can be a very good running back in this league. He is tough and very agile. I believe he can be a feature back for the Eagles allowing Westbrook to lineup in several places.

That's the beauty of scrimmages and drills...whenever someone is burned, nailed, or bitched it just means someone else from your team did the burning, nailing, or bitching. Positive spin!

Really, wow, he owned the PHILLY recievers?!? Do you remember pre-Owens, when you lost an NFCCG because it took 344 seconds for your recievers to get off the line? I suspect this won't even be close to the last CB you'll see man handling your WRs this year. I'm not saying Brown's not good, he is, but to act him locking down Reggie Brown and Jabar Gaffney is some kind of feat is hilarious.

Troy Vincent used to lock down those same PHILLY receivers back in the day...and he also locked every other receiver in the league as well......Brown is a pupil of Troy. With you final comment about locking down Brown to me is funny as well.....seeing how now no Redskin truely was able to lock him down last season. He might not have had 10 catches, 210 yards, and 6 tds......he did have 12 catches, 171 yards for 3 tds....

I'll say it before any of you Redskin fans do. Those plays Brown scored on were a result of blown coverage (which our not the secondary's fault, obviously).
There. The end.

What the heck are you talking about? I didn't say he didn't score or that he didn't get the best of our secondary. What I said was you stated that redskins fans or implied that redskins fans say it wasn't our secondaries fault, but nobody has ever said that. If you blow coverage, then obviously it is our secondaries fault. What skins fans do say though, is that it wasn't Sean Taylor's fault and that saying Brown got the best of Taylor is inaccurate.

Well I assumed you were referring to past conversations that I remember in which people (including me) stated that it wasn't Taylors fault. It was a blown coverage as stated by Williams. However if someone else said it wasn't the secondaries fault, then they are completely wrong.

Our secondary was quite beat up when we played the Iggles last year, too. In the second game, I don't think we even got a quarter out of Springs and Rogers was out with the bicep tear. So yeah, Brown tore the living **** out of Walt Harris and Christian Morton, big deal.

I was a bit pissed to say the least about secondary coverage that game:doh: .
Brown did what it took to score and it worked, good job.
But this is a total different secondary, considering the health anyways :D . So hopefully Brown respects them a bit more this season or you know what will happen to him...:toilet: on by ST, SP, and AA ;)

That's a lot of talk about Brown and what he did in 2005.
You're all glossing over the statement by Peter King that LJ Smith, I'm sometimes going to catch the ball, will make the pro bowl.
Schoebel will outplay him this year, and LJ will still get the PT because Reid loves his picks. Like Reno Mahe, he gets a pass.
I will say LJ gets open though. He's got some instincts as to finding open space.

Dance as you wish, the fact is Bunkley isn't on the field. Reid isn't happy about it. You guys are giddy about your training camp, but you aren't mentioning the obvious. You've got a hold out (who I'm sure will sign before the season, BTW) and you've been hit with the injury bug.

Eagles | Team concerned about Pinkston
Wed, 26 Jul 2006 18:19:56 -0700
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are concerned about the health of WR Todd Pinkston (Achilles'). Pinkston has missed practice the past two days due to soreness he sustained in his left Achilles after the team's first practice of the summer. Pinkston already is trying to return from a ruptured right Achilles. It's not a terrific concern right now, but the signs are ominous. Even head coach Andy Reid acknowledged as much when he made a reference to Oakland Raiders WR Ronald Curry. "Curry went through a situation where he had a couple of Achilles' tendons and actually ruptured one of them twice and ruptured the other one," Reid told Philadelphia reporters

Well, then we have Cooley who had 85 yds one game and ~75 in another... and S. Moss for games w/ 79 and 83 yds.... that's an avg of 81/game...... how "Pinkston" of him....
go ahead bubba... start whining about pi calls and the lack thereof...
for crying out loud... l. betts was your game high receiver in one game w/ like 40 freaking yards ....
First off it was a Pinky joke, and his spook-ability., having inflammation isn't getting injured. No matter what Pinky does, he will never live down the "ball in the lights" duck & cover against Taylor & Clark, and we won't ever tire of getting a laugh from it.
2nd Lighten up dude, it is only a joke.... This is EXTREMESKINS... not ExtremeEAGLES... get a sense of humor and relax.
3rd despite those "poor" performances we swept the eagles last year... go figure.
4th your little rant has very little relevance since the only starting WR that has played against the Eagles as a Redskin was Moss just last season, and the #4 Patten, only played in one game as a Redskin... but hey don't let reality get in the way of a good rant.... besides I don't understand the point of the comparison, none of the receivers mentioned ever shook in fear of the Eagles DB's in the few games they played

wow. injury jokes. this is great stuff.
So bubba... and all you ES posters ... tell me again, why do you joke on Pinkston.... ?
The man's stats against the Skins are better or even than just about anybody the Skins have fielded vs. the Iggles D. Still funny ?

Not really... just a little tipsy .. that's all
but hey... great "non" answer.
It's pretty sobering to know your beloved Skins have had barely a "Pinkston" quality receiver on their own vs. the Eagles..
unless you'd like to try and say differently..... bubba ?

Really, wow, he owned the PHILLY recievers?!? Do you remember pre-Owens, when you lost an NFCCG because it took 344 seconds for your recievers to get off the line? I suspect this won't even be close to the last CB you'll see man handling your WRs this year. I'm not saying Brown's not good, he is, but to act him locking down Reggie Brown and Jabar Gaffney is some kind of feat is hilarious.Really? Because it seems to me like you're discounting him in a big way. He works about as hard as a guy can, and I seriously see him as being a top 10 WR in a couple years here. Hopefully your defense will discount him again too, so he can burn them once more. And McMahon won't be throwing to him either.

Word out of Eagles camp is the defensive line dominated and earned 15 sacks yesterday. As far as the offensive.... the offensive line dominated and didn't give up a sack all day.
Nothing but great news.
You tricky devil you. You took one of Art's already written reports on the upcoming Skin's camp and substituted "Eagles" for Skins.

Did you happen to notice that after the playoffs in the Year that holding by DB's for the Pathers and Patriots impeded WR's they changed the rules and made it a lot harder to be a CB in the NFL? Do you know that Brown and Gaffney weren't Eagles during that game? Do you know what team probably benefits most by the rule change? Take a look at the size of the Skins WR's and tell me which one of them would have the size to defeat the D if they again allowed that kind of holding by CB's.

Did Bunkley sign yet? How many practices does he have to miss before we can call it a hold-out? Just asking.
Oh, look what I found....
"Bunkley update
http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/sports/football/nfl/philadelphia_eagles/15130743.htm
The Eagles had a brief conversation yesterday with first-round pick Brodrick Bunkley's agent, Gary Wichard, but the sides did not move any closer to striking a deal.
"Bunkley missed his ninth and 10th practices.
During an interview on WIP-AM (610) yesterday, Reid said he had tried to talk to Bunkley but was denied permission by Wichard.
Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said the defensive tackle's absence most benefits sixth-round pick LaJuan Ramsey."
Looks like Ramsey should end up being a pro-bowler... ;)

Tr....There's a thread you started titled "Where's Bunkley" which is all about Bunkley's signing situation. Why do you chose to ignore your own thread about this very subject matter and continue the discussion here? BTW....I'm still waiting to hear who the 5th signed 1st rounder was at the time you said there are 5 signed first rounders. It was just after the post where you said all picks before Bunkley had signed.

So bubba... and all you ES posters ... tell me again, why do you joke on Pinkston.... ?
Come on now, you now the answer to that question. Pinky looked like a scared little girl when he bailed on that play. It's especially funny b/c Eagles fans love to boast about how tough the Eagles, their fans, their stadium, and the city of Philly are.
