View Full Version : Falcons are thin at WR......will they trade for somebody?

I was listening to "The Opening Drive" on NFL Sirius this morning.
They had some writer from Atlanta who covered the Dirty Birds on.
He spot about their lack at depth at WR, they need to trade for or sign a Free Agent WR.
Then he mentioned Ricky Proel.
Even though a guy like Jacobs has just about zippy value. I'd rather send him to Atlanta for peanuts, then cut him after camp and let Philly pick him up. Not that he would scare anybody's secondary.
Its just that a conditional pick is better than nothing.
Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

I hadn't thought of Porter. I wonder what they could offer for him. The Raiders I believe are asking for 2 #1's.
A bit steep.
They might need to package players and picks to ATL for him.

they need to make a trade, their WRs were bad to bring with

I don't think Taylor has shown enough for Atlanta to see him as an upgrade to anybody they currently have on the roster. Lelie or Porter would be more along their lines. I'd say they'd be able to get Lelie without giving up too much.

What are you smoking? They wound't take a trade Rogers, jacobs, trash and, a 2nd round pick for Hall.

Here's the proposed trades:
Patten for a conditional 7th
or
Jacobs for an oil filter
Of course the Falcons would deal with the Redskins, in case you were wondering. Gibbs and Blank do have history, to be serious for a second. Maybe he'd take one of those two off our hands.

I wouldn't do that trade if I were the Redskins either.

Roddy White and Michael Jenkins were going to be the #1 and #2 receivers anyway so I don't know how desperate Atlanta is going to be.

True, but they only have three years of experience between them. It wouldn't hurt to have another reserve in the Jerome Pathon mold.

I met Hall a few weeks ago. Nice guy.
This guy this morning said Hall is being worked into their WR sets because of the experience and depth there.
That says something.

Well seeing that Deangelo Hall did beat Steve Smith during the racing drill at the pro-bowl festivity, why wouldn't he be tried at the WR position? The kid has some burners in those cleats!
There is no way that Jame Thrash is traded under any circumstances. But, it would be pretty interesting to flirt with the notion of maybe Patten and Jacobs for a 2nd round pick! Think about it! :point2sky

I agree. I was just saying that I don't see them trying to go out and get a front liner.

We couldn't give Jacobs away at this point.

I'd give them Taylor Jacobs for a ham sandwich. :)

Jerry Porter won't get traded because of the major cap hit the Raiders will take. Patten and Lelie would be possibilities but I see the Skins keeping Patten and letting Jacobs go at the end of camp.

they need somebody. i think Vicks main problem is that he doesn't have anyone to throw to.
Look at Kurt Warner back when he was on the Rams. Kurt Warner was never that great of a passer, he just had the most amazing wide out combination in the league. most of his throws were off target. Vick just needs some decent recievers.

I wonder if this team would dangle Patten in front of either the Falcons or Patriots.

We don't have a second round pick next year. And Hall is worth nothing less than two #1s.

I live in Atlanta and the Falcons are desperate for a WR. They would love Porter, but they can't afford him (given the Raiders demands and the Falcons salary cap position). I, too, thought a trade with the Redskins for Patten or Jacobs might make sense. The AJC continues to think Proel is a good addition for little money.

Patten for a conditional draft pick is the only deal here that makes sense.
