Foster 8.
De Niro 10. Of course.
Kidman 8.
Pitt 6. Limited.
Brando 10.
Stewart 8. Somewhat limited range, but very charming.
Hayek 4. Hot, but can't really act.
Hanks 6. Candy-*** roles, but serviceable.
Penn 10. Best actor of his generation.

Norton can be impressive at times, but mostly it looks like he's trying too hard to act. I like him most when he's downplaying his role or is directed to do so (Fight Club). I think he's got a lot of talent, but by "hot and cold" I mean performances such as in American History X or Red Dragon (although to a lesser degree in this one). In one scene he comes across as entirely believable, but in the next he looks so self-conscious that his role is compromised. Also, some of the choices he makes bring me to believe that he's just not very smart, or at least that he doesn't see his role through the lens of the entire movie. As a result, I see this choppy acting, where the character seems more confused than complex. This, by the way, isn't uncommon among actors who primarily act on film (as opposed to stage), where the scenes are often shot all out of order under all kinds of unreasonable circumstances (weather, crew mishaps, different times of day, etc).
