I know, I know it is not the Skins thread, but since we don't have anti-Skins forum I believe the thread about Dr. Z.
Just get a load of this:

Whether it is due to senility, temporary insanity or being mean-spirited isn't clear. What is clear is Dr. Z's better days are behind him.
Sports Illustrated's Paul Zimmerman, aka Dr. Z, has been opining about the National Football League for the once-great magazine since 1979. To say Zimmerman has lost something is being polite. To say SI's credibility took a hit with Dr. Z's most recent rambling is being honest.
well put, doesn't it?
Anyway, link for the full article at the top.

I love it. Favre's one of the greatest of all time; how can he possibly not be considered a first ballot HOFer if Troy Aikman and Warren Moon just got inducted?

Goes in the "Around the NFL" Forum, just so you know.

Yeah it does, but I think we should leave it here and savor the moment for a few minutes first. :)

Wow.... And its these types of people that vote for the HOF? B*******

Amazingly, the greatest hit to Dr. Z's credibility was self- inflicted. He writes: "Sure, I'll vote for Dick (Vermeil). He sent me a case of that great cabernet he makes in Calistoga. You bet I'll vote for him."

Unreal.

And some people wonder why we bash the voting process around here.

:whoknows: All we can do is pray that eventually people will see the light and have HOF players and coaches do the voting. Or even non HOF players. Players that played with said people being voted in.

How can that not be construed as being evidence of partiality and bias?

Even if Vermiel's case of wine was in no way intended to be given as a trade for a vote in the HOF, the manner in which Dr. Z presents basically insinuates (a) that it was, thereby degrading Vermiel and himself, and (b) the worst possible thing about someone in power that's making decisions of this type: that they are more interested in the fruits of their power than weilding it fairly.

That he throws it out there so cavalierly has got to give someone pause--the HOF needs to do something about this, at very least make an inquiry.

Disgusting.

Dr. Z just sucks, but so does all of SI--I mean look at their writers, they hired Dum-assio? Even after his credibility was destroyed by our own members on this site. Dr. Z needs to hang it up--he really does, he's just a total joke.

As I have posted in the stadium forum, writers are nothing more than fans with better seats to the games :)

These guys all feel they are INSIDERS when in fact they don't have any real knowledge of the game you can't glean from a sports almanac. These guys don't break players down professionally and most can't identify a top prospect in training camp from a scrub based on the drills unless they have a player roster and see who the top draft picks are

Peter King once predicted that Danny Wuerffel would throw for 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns with the Redskins in a single season under Spurrier.

Dr. Z once predicted that Kelly and the Bills would humiliate the Redskins in the Super Bowl.

These guys must have been drinking some of that wine when they made these predictions

At least he's consistently stupid.

I don't think anyone can dispute that Favre has "hung on too long" and the same can be said for Monk. Detrators of Monk like to argue on a "per season" basis and stretch his career over 16 seasons which dilutes his statistics. What you really need to look at is what were they like for their prime? That 6-8-10 years were they one of the best in the game? In both Favre and Monks case the answer was yes.

Why should someone like Gale Sayers or Terrell Davis be deemed more Hall worthy for being at the top of the game for 4 seasons and then flaming out? I'll take very good with NFL titles for 8-10 years over great for 4 years.

Favre needs to throw only 12 more picks to be the all-time leader. He'll probably have that record sewn up by week three.

He's still a Hall-of-famer, but all the fawning over this guy has become downright annoying. There is really no difference between him and Aaron Brooks right now. Football is still fun to him so I can't say he should retire, but he definitely ain't the player he used to be -- not even close.

from the SI article in question:

Link here (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/dr_z/07/26/drz0723/index.html)

Deion should enter on the first ballot, and I agree with that. No corner in history had his catch-up speed. But that would use up my entire quota of DBs. In my 13-year era only one has made it in the first season he was eligible: Ronnie Lott.

But then what about Rod Woodson (class of 2009), who has already been selected to the NFL's alltime team? I would vote for him, although I rank him third behind Deion and still another corner, the Redskins' heroic little Darrell Green. He'll come up with the class of 2008. The major competition will be Cris Carter and Tony Boselli. Yes, I'm 100% in Darrell's corner.

glad someone else said it. I think Favre will be a first ballot hall of famer, and with his other stats and records, he deserves it. However, I think that is heavily impacted by how much praise he got in his later years as much as his glory years. You can say Brad Johnson won a super bowl, and got to the playoffs a couple of times, but I do not believe he is hall of fame worthy. What about Trent Dilfer? Favre won a super bowl, and his hype as America's new Golden Boy is what keeps the infatuation and his greatness going. I'm thinking by the end of this season that infatuation will be heavily reduced. I hate to agree with Dr. Z, but I pretty much just did with my most previous line.

no only sportswriters who relish the power they have over the players post career, wonder why we don't shut up, and quit informing people what a shame of a process it really is them voting for the HOF...
