Clarett Arrested; Police Find Arsenal Of Weapons Inside SUV
Officers Use Mace, Taser Gun To Subdue Ex-Buckeye Player
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police said they used Mace and a Taser gun to arrest former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett Wednesday morning after they found an arsenal of weapons inside an SUV he was driving.
Clarett was taken into custody at about 3 a.m. in a restaurant's parking lot off Brice Road following a brief chase, NBC 4's David Wayne reported.
Police said they spotted an SUV that was driving erratically along Brice Road and then followed it as it drove onto Interstate 70, Wayne reported.
The SUV was then seen making a U-turn along the interstate. Officers placed stop-sticks on the road but the SUV continued driving and exited along Brice Road, Wayne reported.
Despite a flat tire, the vehicle then struck a police cruiser in a the parking lot of a Tee Jaye's Country Place restaurant, located at 2435 Brice Rd., where Clarett was taken into custody, Wayne reported.
"I saw the car come over here in the Tee Jaye's lot and actually bump into the cruiser," said a witness who requested anonymity. "He didn't want to stop."
"(Clarett) was resisting to the point that they felt it was necessary to try to use a Taser," said Columbus police Sgt. Mike Woods. "He had a bulletproof vest on and the Tasers would not penetrate that, so they used Mace. It took several officers to get his arms behind his back and get him under control and handcuffed."

its crazy what kind of wild road this clarette guy is taking ever since college. I didn't really pay attention to football or college football 3 years ago. But i do remember hearing a story about a college kid suing the NFL b/c he wanted to enter the draft at a younger age than prohibited. I guess that shows u how much publicity it got.
Makes me wonder what kind of stuff he's gotten into. I can understand carrying a hand gun in your car, but an AK-47 too??? Thats some kind of protection. Along w/ a bulletproof vest... I wonder if he was just using that as a fashion statement a la 50 cent.:silly:

I heard about this on the radio this morning.
At first I was thinking, "You've gotta be kidding me." Then I remembered who they were talking about. It's sad to see the fall from grace that this guy's had, but he did bring it all on himself...guess you do reap what you sow.

Clarett was bad news from Day 1. His behavior at Ohio State indicated he was a radioactive personality and was on course to 'crash and burn.'
I was shocked that Mike Shanahan would waste a #3 pick on a player that was 30 pounds overweight and who showed absolutely no commitment to becoming a productive NFL player.

I hope that they make an example out of him to kids. There are too many kids nowadays that think if they are an athlete they can do whatever they want and get away with it, and unfortunately, more often than not, that is the case. I hope that if one good thing can come out of this it is that kids realize that even athletes have to follow the rules, and that they are much better off staying in school and getting an education, even if theydo have a lot of God given talent.

Wow. Have you guys seen the Chapelle's Show Episode where they do the skit, "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong"...That sounds like it came straight out of that show. At some point Clarett just said to himself, "F the NFL, F getting a real job, F everybody, I'm going to be a Gangsta". And that's where its gotten him. There are ways to make money by doing things that are illegal, plenty of people make more than enough money to get by off the black market...then there's guys like Clarett who take it to another level, buy some guns and say "F the world, I'm ready to die, Get Rich or Die Trying" And that's why the prisons are overcrowded. Maurice has been listening to too much 50 Cent.

Fact: They tried to pull him over for driving erraticly and he turns into Luke Duke, even goes as far as ramming a squad car.
Fact: He resists arrest to the point that they have to taser him, and the stun gun doesn't work becasue of his bullet proof vest, so they have to mace him.
Even if that's all you believe he's still going to jail for a long time. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the "arsenal" in his car were not all legal and registered. Seemed like an informative article to me. He also robbed 2 people at gun point about 6 months ago, so I'm going to jump to conclusions here and call Clarett a stupid, classless, thug, with no respect for anyone or anything.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Clarett had a permit for the handguns. He seems like the paperwork type. As for the assault rifle, if it was in fact an AK, that's also illegal since they don't come built with the legalizing restrictions that other post-ban assault rifles are built with. There doesn't seem to be anything more to this deal, so I don't know what's to wait for.
Anyway, I checked out the video of it on CBS Sportsline, and the commercial they put in front of it is of a guy robbing a bank and then going on a tirade. It's for their show "Criminal Minds". I enjoyed the irony. :D

There's at least one other possible explanation, although it doesn't really help him any. He could have been in danger from other thugs, related to illegal activities, and this is how he protects himself.
I say "related to illegal activities" in this scenario, because otherwise he could have gone to the authorities.

He supposedly was a block away from the main witness against him when the chase started.
To make things more bizarre he also called several people (Tom Friend, Jim Tressel, Labron James) earlier in the evening to say thanks. I don't know how many of you saw Tom Friend on ESPN this morning but it sounded like he was saying his good-byes.

Clarett is still destined to be a star running back (on a prison league).
I don't like the guy, but it is still saddening to hear how far Maurice has sunken. Wasn't he drafted in the 3rd round by the Broncos last year, then showed up to camp overweight and slow? When he was cut, it was the beginning of the end.
Depressing story. :(
