Cowboys safety Williams wins humanitarian awardAssociated Press
RIVERWOODS, Ill. -- Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams is the recipient this year of the Arthur S. Arkush Humanitarian Award, given annually to the NFL player who has made outstanding contributions to the community and charitable organizations.
The 25-year-old safety supports many organizations and agencies connected with the team and gives time and money to low-income single mothers.
In 2004, he established The Roy Williams Safety Net Foundation, ensuring that single mothers raising children in the Dallas area are provided support, guidance and assistance in an effort to enhance their quality of life. He has attended 97 percent of the foundation's events since its inception.

You know, in all of the back and forth between ST and RW on this board, it is nice to read a good story about Roy. He is a good football player in my mind but now I know a little more about him off the field. :applause:
Thanks for the insight, I would have never known otherwise.

It's good to see a story that doesn't include firearms, DUI's, or BUI's....even if it is a Cowboy that the story is written about. ;)

How dare you post that here! This can only incite an all out RW vs. ST dog fight round 876 and you know it!
BTW, T.O. is the devil.

If it happens, it will be because of your post. You gave someone an opening. Otherwise it would have been nothing else other then what has been going on. :2cents:

This is how it always starts. RW took out the garbage. Well ST has a bigger trash can and has better "range" as a safety...etc. etc. BTW, my opinion doesn't matter. I alone can't stop or start the inevitable. I made that comment with a hint of sarcasm BTW. Classy responses so far.

Excellent job Roy--keep up the good humanitarian work! That kind of thing is important...Props to Roy...(the only time I can give him props is when it doesn't involve football, but the good of humanity.) In all seriousness, I love to see these guys giving back to their community.

Yea, Roy is a good guy off the field;) . I think the first time I realized how religious and good natured he was in his life was ironically, during his cribs show on MTV. He seemed to be a real nice guy and was more interested in giving back than all the bling-bling of all pro-athletes. His character off the field is prototypical Joe Gibbs stuff....did I just say that out loud.

I think that was a body double. All Cowboys are the anti-christ. Sean Taylor and Dexter Manley are just misunderstood.

Glad to see professional football players not acting a fool & giving back to the community that truly needs the support. A lot of players could use RW's as a perfect example of leadership off the field.
I still agree with Henry though-Eh. I still hate him. ;)

Big Roy: "I'm Roy Williams. When I found out that little Billy here was growing up without a daddy, I had to do something."
Single Mom: "When Big Roy saw our picture in the paper, he called and got involved."
Big Roy: "I had to. I couldn't help myself. But little Billy's not the only one. There's also little Jason here. Once again this year, I'll be sponsoring a fatherless family in every city I play in."
Jason: "Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, Mr. William's already there."
Big Roy: "Jonathan, run a fly pattern all the way to the goal line. Tennessee! Kentucky! Find the meat! Uh, deeper, Jonathan. It's a tough world. These kids nearly got Munsoned, but they're back now. Through the Safety Net Foundation, I found out that if you give a little, you can get back a whole lot more."

Oh, and I'll add that it is good to see football players that actually do give back, instead of being all about themselves.

Me thinks the cowypies are trying unsuccessfully to stir things up. Skin fans are intelligent enough and impartial enough to praise a person for being generous and good off the field, while still being an overated cheap shot toolbag on the field though. I'm glad he's not a complete jackhole though, I hadnt known until this thread.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. IIRC, when he was drafted he stated that his father was a huge Cowboys fan.
I've heard stories of him going to charity events and bringing some other Cowboys with him and doing it with no press and he wound up getting a bit emotional when speaking in front of the crowd. It's nice to see somebody support charities, it's another thing to try and do it w/o getting the publicity.

So basically you are saying that if I break the speed limit and I dont get caught it never happened.
I bet OJ didnt really do it either...
And Bonds didnt use steroids...
And you are really smart...

The league reviews all the games and dishes out fines for illegal hits, even if they were not flagged for the hit. Darren Woodson received a large fine a few years back for a hit in which he was not flagged. So how many times has Roy been fined?
As for your analogies, if you were on tape speeding, murdering someone, or using steroids then there is 0% chance of not being caught

C, Ive been around the past few weeks.
I just wasnt around for the lull of the summer.
It gets pretty boring on football MBs during that time.
But I'm geared up for another great season of the Dallas/Washington rivalry.

Way to go Roy. I think he's very good on the field, but I don't excuse some of his play. I do salute his doing good works in the community instead of just flashing the bling.
