I know that it is probably too early to even try, but I just can't seem to figure Doc out.
In just one preseason game I swear I could already tell that he has improved on his pass blocking from his already improved pass blocking from the 2005 season. But, where I am torn is, after reviewing the game from yesterday, he still seems to have problems when it comes to run blocking. You would think that a player with Docs size and strength, that he would be out there just absolutely beastin people. But after watching (and I was really watching him), I am convinced that he struggles when asked to run block...especially when pulling.
An example of what I was looking at in yesterdays game took place on the first play of our second offensive possession. It looked to be a counter right, with Doc pulling. Doc got there ok, but gets blasted by LB B.Simmons and Simmons almost causes Doc to make the tackle on Rock himself. It's just another case where it seems as though Doc does not seem to run block/pull with very much aggression at all. A very similar play happened last season, at home, against the Cowboys, with Betts carrying the ball. Doc was blocking out wide and got layed out by CB T.Newman. Betts flattened Newman and ran for a positive gain, but you see what my point is.
I honestly want Doc to succeed with the Redskins, if for no other reason other than to keep the cohesion factor going, but I just think that he needs to maybe play with a bigger mean streak. Thoughts?
