Is a keeper and will prove to be very strong as a linebacker. Has great closing speed and hits hard. Look for him to become a starter in a very short time.

Unless his knees keep giving out. Didn't he have knee problems in training camp a week or 2 ago?

He was great coming out of HS but after blowing his knees out has been reduced to a slow technique only type LBer, a few more knee injuries and he could be done.

I'm definately rooting for him though.

Same here. If his knee stops bothering him, and he gets surgery to fix it, he could very well work his way into the starting line-up at outside linebacker. It would be Lemar Marshall (MLB), Marcus Washington (LOLB), and Kevin Simon (ROLB), and Robert McCune (ILB), if we are in the 3-4 defense.

UM... kevin simon will never be more than a MLB, he is not fast or agile enough to play weakside.

I think you haven't seen this guy Rocky McIntosh play lately? He's kind of a beast on wheels.

Plus the coaches have been real down on Mccune. With Posey here, he very well may be on his way out.

I knew him since he was a little guy. (lived on my street)
I talked to his father and he said his knee was ok now.
He works very hard and if he stays healthy he will be a great draft for the team.
I wish him all of the luck.
You have done your homework on him.

Wow I'm glad he is such a nice guy. Yeah I really really liked the kid, and he was tearing it up in minicamp and training camp. I hope this is the last bump in the road for him as far as injuries. I haven't heard anything about the injury that would imply he wouldn't be able to be on the practice squad if he doesn't make the regular roster right away.

With the addition of Posey, Simon's days maybe numbered. Simple fact is he will probably get caught up in a #'s game as he is fighting it out with 4 guys for two spots. Ther other guys are capable of playing multiple LBer positions while Simon is strictly a MLB.

His bad wheels don't help the cause either but hey if Simon shines and earns a spot then good for him. I just don't like his chances as of now.

TWICE! The University of Tennessee is a very defense oriented program and I saw most of the games he played at Tennessee. He actually played all 3 LB positions while there, spending a year in each position.

*He led Tennessee in tackles playing MLB in '05 (Tennessee was #2 against the run and #7 in overall defense in '05).

*He led them in tackles playing at SLB in '03.

*And he was leading them in tackles playing WLB going into mid-season in '02 when a teammate fell on him in a pile and broke his ankle.

And to those who are not familiar with him, don't believe the hype. Simon was coming off a complete ACL replacement surgery last year and is just now hitting his stride again, speed-wise.

Watching him in the few plays he got in on in the Ravens scrimmage....while he and the other young guys obviously don't know the system as well as the veterans (who are a lot better than many people realize), he is as instinctive and as quick to the ball as anyone I saw....and very physical when he gets there.

Kevin was the National Defensive Player of the Year according to multiple ranking services coming out of high school. I agree with PeterKell, unfortunately, he was slowed down in college by injuries but this kid is an incredible talent, and he is really fun to watch because he plays football the way it is supposed to be played....full speed ahead! He never lost a game in high school playing arguably the toughest schedule in California, and he had a lot to do with that.

Good stuff man. I was a freshman at UT last year and I was fortunate enough to go to all the home games to watch this guy play. He really is great.

Thanks for the support for Kevin. Hope he can avoid a major injury and get more playing time. His speed will pickup, at UT he did show very fast closing speed and good reaction.
Very good tackler also.
While at high school he also was a running back. Played both ways. Voted defense player of the year and logged in over 1,000 yards running his senior year.

He lived down the street from me in San Ramon when he was a yound kid.

Simon is too slow and unathletic to invest much hope in. I doubt seriously he makes the final cut.

Not good.

The Cincy game was last week so he already missed it. I know the coaching staff spoke highly of him during the offseason workouts but I think his injuries this summer will hurt his chances of making the final roster. If I were a betting man I would say he might get signed to the practice squad.

Simon has failed to take the field for the Skins so far in the summer and that is a pretty good sign that he is not going to make the active roster. Unless he comes on in the preseason games from here on out I think he will be released and if lucky re-signed to the practice squad.

Posey can play middle linebacker as well as strong side, so the Redskins could go short at linebacker in terms of numbers if they need to keep an extra defensive back or lineman.

JoeSkins
August-18th-2006, 08:30 AM
His career was marked by injuries with the Vols, but when he was on the field he was as solid a linebacker as there was in the nation. Of course, that's what he is essentially; solid. He's not going to be spectacular, but how many teams need anything more than solid in the middle?

bulldog
August-18th-2006, 08:33 AM
sounds as if Simon would be a guy that benefits by being on IR for a year. Too bad the rules have changed for stashing players on the injured list.

of course if you put a guy on the practice squad and he shows any promise, a team like San Francisco or Houston that have lousy rosters will claim him.

Redskins Notes: The Redskins announced that nine players would be left out of tonight's preseason game at FedEx Field against the New York Jets. Cornerbacks Springs (abdomen), Ade Jimoh (sternum) and Curry Burns (hamstring) were scratched, as were wide receivers Ataveus Cash (hamstring) and Richard Smith (ankle). Linebacker Kevin Simon (abdomen), Daniels (back), offensive lineman Jim Molinaro (knee) and running back Portis (shoulder) also were out. None of the nine players practiced for much of the week. The status of wide receiver Brandon Lloyd (hamstring) will be a game-time decision, Coach Joe Gibbs said.

That really sucks. I guess its a forgone conclusion that Simon will be on the practice squad. Not bad though - who knows maybe after a few months on the squad he'll get called up!

peterkell
August-20th-2006, 10:17 AM
Does not look good for him at this point. Have to see if he practices thhis week and suites up for the next game. If not, the practice squad or a release looks very likely.
Possible he will have to pack his suitecases?
Chance another team could look his way? San Francisco needs all the help they can get and it would be home for him.

He does have great talent, but injuries have set him back too often.

Simon has missed the most time of any player in camp — he was injured in the Baltimore scrimmage Aug. 5 and hasn't practiced since.
[But...]
To make room for Duckett on the roster, the Redskins released receiver Ataveus Cash. [instead of Kevin Simon]

I am trying to get a update on his injury condition to avoid making quick judgement.
They must like his possible talent or they would have let him go by now to make room.

Anyone have any updates.

bulldog
August-28th-2006, 05:06 PM
Campbell is going to make the team on ST. We know that.

The addition of Jeff Posey to me spells trouble for McCune and Havner. Posey can play all three linebacker spots and that means the Skins as with Sellers on offense can have him cover more than one position as a backup.

The team can then keep an extra receiver or running back.
